I was re-watching "The bird-bot of Ice-catraz" the other day (great ep!) and noticed something odd.

When Leela shoots Bender in the head towards the end of the ep and he falls unconcious he re-boots. During the re-boot sequence he picks his 'Reset Mode' as 'Human' based on an image of Leela.

Going on what we found out in "Leela's Homeworld" was this a deliberate clue? Or am I nuts?

Can anyone else think of clues to her origin that may have been put in deliberately?

I spotted that, but I thought it was just a continuity error.  Then again, it took me dozens of viewings of the pilot to spot the 1BDI joke.

In "I Second That Emotion", Leela says "There's no such thing as mutants".  Not so much a clue as a very, very ironic statement.

I had noticed the "human" classification in Birdbot, but when someone pointed out Leela's parents in the crowd of mutants in Emotion--and going by the rule of drama and comedy alike that any firm belief of a character almost always turns out to be wrong--I forgot about it.

Second rule: Once proven wrong, the belief often suddenly turns out to be right after all.

IMO, it would have made more sense if the word "humanoid" came up on Bender's eyes.

Just one thought - if Bender KNEW Leela was human, wouldn't he have told her?  (For an extortionate fee, of course!)

Bender didn't necessarily know that Leela was human. He probably doesn't have any memory of the reboot process, since this is an automated process.

We've had this conversation before here (including my own prolonged attempt at nullifying the "Birdbot of Ice-Catraz" bit.

A somewhat older thread revolving around the sighting of her parents in "I Second That Emotion".

And I still think it was a mistake to make her a mutant, but time will tell.

I don't think so.   :hmpf:
I can just imagine an eps where the mayor finds out about Leela being a mutant and decrees that she must go live in the sewers with the other mutants, and Fry and crew goes down to get her back/convince mayor to change mind  :D lol

Fair enough. (Should have done my research really)

Hmm... I don't think it was a mistake to make her a mutant. But finding her parents (be they mutant or alien) has killed off a plot line that could have been milked a bit more.

<CONSPIRACY>Maybe they're mutant aliens (then everyone is happy!)</CONSPIRACY>

I think its a strong possibility. I mean since they are the only three we've seen with- [Bender voice]"one melon sized bloodshot eye..." [/Bender voice]- err right..  :p

I don't think he cared, as it was on the list of stuff he doesn't care about, namely, "stuff not about him."
