I actually counted them twice before I read your comment  :laff:

Isn't it strange that the only thing in common with our lists is futurama... no? Ok then.

Arrested Development
The Boondocks
The Colbert Report
Futurama
South Park

There's a whole slew of honorable mentions, but I could only choose five....

I think you'll love the bbc version, because in my opinion the US version doesn't come close

Well I did search, but saying that if someone in the future searches, I doubt they'll find this thread, I should really have made the name more relevant...

How is it that loads of people list arrested development as one of their favourites, but it was cancelled because of low ratings?? There are loads of comedies mentioned here that I haven't seen, and I plan to look in on them if i get the chance.

Because it WAS a low-rating show. But Arrested Development and Futurama have a lot in common. Both were incredibly funny shows rejected by the public but loved by critics, both were WAY too smart for television, both foreshadowed things years in advance before they happened, both had two unsuccessful seasons in a slot after The Simpsons, then were moved to bad slots by Fox to intentionally kill them (because both shows had very powerful people in charge who Fox didn't want to piss off). It's only natural that the shows would find similar cult audiences - and trust me, hardcore AD fans are WAY more rabid than hardcore Futurama fans. And anyone who frequents the Arrested Development thread can back me up on that.  ;)

Plus, one of the writers on AD is Futurama writer Ron Weiner. Granted, he only wrote two episodes in the show's third season, but still...

I know they are much more rabid!  :laff: I remember the send bannanas to fox campaign, but unfortunately they didn't have the numbers, I would join arrested development message boards but I haven't seen season 3 because I live in the the UK, and I'm afraid of spoilers, so I'll wait 'til I've seen them all.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Seinfeld
South Park
Family Guy
Robot Chicken

The reasons I liked the older episodes of Futurama were not for comical reasons, but for creative reasons. I truly felt like I was in the future and in a whole different world. I wish I could say the same about the later ones.

I used to like my family in the first few seasons, but when they lost some of the characters, it lost some of it's appeal, it can still be very funny though!

I thought Abby was a good character when they brought her in as well

Also Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law ranks somewhere in the middle of my list. Birdman's boss is the funniest.

My current running top comedies:
1. Monk
2. My Name is Earl
3. The Office (US)
4. Late Night with Conan O'Brien

I would put The Simpsons at 5, but they've trailed off lately, so only a Top 4 for currents.

Yes, Birdman is hilarious. I loved that episode where Fred Flinstone came in and it was a parody of The Sopranos.

hmmm, can't seem to think further than that really.  Obviously I've seen and enjoyed other comedies, but it would just be a random choice as to which of them would be in the top 5.  Certainly Blackadder & the Boosh on the top two spots though.

Question: Not arguing here or anything, but why are people listing The Colbert Report and not The Daily Show?  I love both about equally, but I'm just surprised to see people listing one and not the other.

I love them both dearly, but TDS loses points for the ruddy annoying audience it's developed.  It's not Jon's fault that he's so popular (...ok, so it's mostly his fault), but the audience seems to worship every phrase that falls out of his mouth, and it takes away from the show for me, because their presence feels less like a live audience and more like a laugh track.  The Colbert Report has an audience, true, but they somehow seem to actually contribute to the show's atmosphere, rather than detract from it.
