Commercials are a waste of time.  Some are humourous, most are stupid and insulting.  I've never had the urge to buy a Lexus, change my brand of toilet paper or save the starving children based on watching a TV ad.

I don't care, most of the stuff I watch I taped earlier so I just fast-forward through the adverts.

They 're all so stupid you learn to ignore them.

The lowest kind of commercials are the ones aimed at  children.

In the same category: infomercials. Directed towards people who watch tv at hours no one else would: the unemployed and the elderly. Pure brainwashing, they don't shut up for a minute and keep repeating themselves.
Person 1:Isn't that incredible?
Person 2:Yes it is incredible!
P1: I can't believe it!
P2:I've never seen anything like it.
(Taken from an oven cleaner infomercial.)

If their products are really that good, why  not sell them in shops?

Some ads are great and make good TV, for example, that BBC1 ad with the guy jumping over all the rooftops with the music in the background and there's a naked chick playing a piano in it!!
That few seconds was better than some complete shows on telly IMO.
I also hate some ads, recently, the Wotsit crisps ad, bloody hell it's annoying!
However I do believe some ads are necessary, otherwise I won't know about new foods or flavours or other important stuff!

Now why didn't it let me vote the 1st time, said I already did! Is there flood control on voting too?
Edit: Nope, won't let me vote at all! No. 2 by the way.

Some adverts are given large budgets, good directors and get a great reception, and most importantly arn't repeated forever. For instance, the 1984 Apple ad directed by Ridely Scott, that only got showed twice, but symbolised the whole decade in advertising.

Some are just crap, especially the recent flood of "Have you been injured in an acident?" / "Are you in debt?" in the UK.

Some of them are quite funny, or even enjoyable, yet the majority are mostly tedious, annoying, insulting, deeply infuriating, boring, mundane, horrendous SHIT!
Precisely.

I hate ones that are advertising for laxatives while you're eating soup "Some serious side-effects may include anal leagage, oily discharge or explosive body emission...

But the one thing I love more than anything else is "No purchase necessary, details inside."

That was the first ad I've seen in a while that I really like.

Also, those horrendous "marijuana slows down your reaction time and makes you kill little girls with your car" ads are just too funny. Everytime I see one of these propagandist pieces of crap, I just can't help but guffaw...which was really wierd, once, when they showed it in a public movie theather.   :evillaugh:

I voted for Some of them are OK, and some are actually quite good to watch. I hate the ones that try to be real-life, and fail.

I don't know about American TV, but car adverts always suck (especially ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM and Va-va-voom!).

There is a very good anti-speeding ad in the UK. Shot in black and white, it shows a car braking down a street in slow motion with no sound, you see people staring at it on the street and then you see it hit a child in the middle of the road, only a voice-over saying "A driver driving at 20MPH would've stopped here" is on the soundtrack. Pretty strong for an advert.
There's then the car advert shot in Orpington, i go there for school and i recognise the shops you see on the advert (wow!).

There's this ad that's been on for a while in the US for a "sugar alternative" that's "made from sugar, so you know it tastes like sugar, but it's not sugar!"...I just snicker at it's completely oxymoronic irony every time it comes on...

Television advertising is a waste of time now. We have got so used to them the general population has learned to blank out most adverts. I like the funny ones (which are once in a blue moon). Some are just pointless. What's the point in McDonalds advertising (other than a new promotion). Who doesn't know what McDonalds is?

As sheep555 said, the compensation claim adverts and ones about changing insurance or mortgage are just plain annoying. Just the get-rich-quick scheme that grabs people's attention. I laugh out loud at them.

CD adverts can make me laugh though. There's one for "Bass, Breaks and Beats 2003" or some crap like that, where some MC bloke shouts through the TV in an irritating rapper voice, while we get lots of shots of townies being, well, townies. It's an ad that makes me crack up everytime.

You get the occaisional one that is an absolute ripper, very funny, not repeated till naseua is induced, the shows that are solely funny ads, despite their annoyingly upbeat washed-up celebrity hosts are actually pretty good (and often of the genre 'Worlds blankeist blanks'.)

Normal ads though are just something to take a piss and grab a drink (not related by the way) during.

I really like the road tax advert with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in it and since I first saw it on Monday I haven't got bored with it!

The adverts I find I generally like are ones where no one talks. I loved that advert (was it Nike) where those people were running around the streets soaking each other and I'm quite fond of the Pentium adverts with the blue blokes.

But adverts I despise are ones where people advertise the product even though they are supposedly portraying normal people. The advert for cough sweets where that man says "it sorts the men from the boys" because I very much doubt someone in real life would say that and not be ridiculed and have shoes thrown at him the next day.

So most adverts where people speak are rather pointless. Most adverts are pointless.

I have noticed that in ads, it's always the overweight guy that's the "stupid" guy. If someone does something stupid in a commercial, he's probably fat.

Has anyone noticed that the customer is always portrayed as a fucking moron in Best Buy and Circuit City commercials? Why do people shop there? It's so insulting.

There is this TV advert that I like at the moment. Its new Levi's jeans advert. a group  of people were hanging around in the streets and some of their heads were replaced by rat heads. They held a kitten hostage and they were taking it back to their owner of theat a parking lot.the owner and gave them money.

of the advert is pretty funny.

They're mice, and it's supposed to be about turning the tables on the mouse cat story... of course I'd never get that if it hadn't been explained. The mice hold a cat for ransom, whereas cats normally hunt mice.

Plus I think the jeans are hideous aswell.

It's cuz fat people are stupid. End of conversation.  :p

And Fishy, it's because if you shop at Best Buy, you also must be pretty stupid. End of that conversation too.
