Just saw this movie, one of Moore's better documentries, it brings up some interesting ideas. That is why I am posting it here. What do you people think about the key idea behind the film, ie why do Americans have such a high gun murder rate? It isn't the amount of guns, nor the History what do you people think?

I've only seen like 3 minutes of "Bowling for Columbine", cuz it still has yet to be carried out here in the boondocks of Indiana. Those three minutes: the cartoon showing the American love of firearms throughout it's history. I think that does have quiet a bit to do with it, the fact that we've always had guns and they've been indoctrinated to our culture. Why have we always had guns? Because we were the 'frontier' for so long. Now, they're just hanging around without a purpose...except to shoot up one's classmates.

Of course it's becuase you have guns, if you didnt have as many guns in america, there would no be so much gun related crime, is that not obvious?

Wierd I put it in the off topic not tv for a reason, it is a documentry about some serious issues and I wanted to talk about the issues, not about the doc its self.

I've downloaded the trailer and the three minute bit that Evan was talking about.  I have to go see this movie next time I'm in Chicago.  :D

I wouldn't mind seeing this. Also The Comedian sounds pretty good. Too bad my home town isn't classy enough for documentaries.

Yeah but one of the points of the movie is that Canadians have the same amount of guns, but way fewer deaths.  Because Americans are idiots.

PS-that's weird, I moved this thread because it's about a MOVIE... you can discuss the MOVIE in this forum....

But none of us have SEEN the movie. We all either live in Podunck, USA, or are outside the U.S. Only city-folk get to comment on the actual movie.

Keep in mind, there are 10 Americans for every Canadian. So of course there will be many more deaths.

I've seen the trailer from this movie. Already it's very interesting to me.

it was featured on Oprah today. I wanted to see it before, but even moreso now (and not because I do whatever oprah tells me...... must read crappy novels......um i mean...)

Forgive the thread necromancy, but I found this doing an unrelated search, and figured I'd post my two cents.  I've seen this, and all of Michael Moore's other movies, and I am quite big fans of them.  I am an American, though, and yet I agree with 90% of what Michael Moore says.  He does not blame guns for the violence, which is a nice change from the usual excuses for violence.  He makes a great point at the only thing different in Canada, is that they don't pump the people full of fear.

His other movies/documentaries are good, too.  Sure, there are people who do not agree with his views, but I think everybody can respect the style in which he makes these movies... I would suggest to anybody and everybody to view Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 911, and my favorite, The Big One.  Roger and Me is pretty good, too.
