What do all of you prefer more, Futurama or The Simpsons? Personally I prefer both equally.

If you compare what Futurama's done over its run to what The Simpsons has done, I'd say the Simpsons comes out on top. However, Futurama was good from the start, while The Simpsons wasn't that great. In the present, I enjoy watching Futurama more than The Simpsons now, though both are very good. I wager that since this is a Futurama board, Futurama will win this one.

Well, it depends.  Are we talking post-season-3 to pre-season-11 Simpsons?  Because I love classic Simpsons as much as, or more than, Futurama.

I love The Simpsons but I much prefer Futurama. When Futurama started I thought of it as equal to The Simpsons but by the time the second season began I started to like it more. Now I love Futurama so much, now I've seen a reasonable amount of episodes to compare it, I think it's much better, even better than The Simpsons glory years 6-8.

Although The Simpsons has great re-watch value I find that Futurama benifits a lot more from doing so and becomes even better the more I watch it. If it was a choise between a new Futurama episode or a new Simpsons episode the Futurama episode would win every time.

The Simpsons was always limited by what they could get away with, and look what they're not getting away with through seasons 6 to 10 (I have only seen the odd episode past season 10), when you compare that to the fact that Futurama can get away with virtually everything, The Simpsons comes out on top for imagination and ingenuity.

then again, I love Futurama more because I ;love: Leela and Amy, and when it comes to comedy: Bender is twice as good as even Classic Homer used to be. Fry is better than Mid-Slide Homer, where the idiosyncracies and idocy mounted up, and zoidberg is better than Post Season Seven Homer.

Plus, there are no spaceships in The Simspons. I rest my case.

Simpsons is great but Futurama is much better. Also if anyone votes for point 4 shouldn't they be somewhere else?

I would say that we are not just talking about specific seasons of each show, but we are talking about each show as a whole in this forum.

Like many people have said already, some Simpson episodes are classics.
The Simpsons are something you can relate too as well.
When Bart does something bad for example you all know you've been there in real life or at least know someone who has.
You can't say with Futurama "oh crashing a huge intergalactic spaceship into a asteroid, oh that brings back the memories" well not outside a computer game anyways.
Well there are points in Futurama that you can relate too of course but not as much as The Simpsons IMHO.
Having said that almost every new Simpsons episode I see I think it too far fetched, it just seems crazy - no sence what so ever. Simpson humour used to come from believable situations that became very funny - now it's just abstract crazyness.
Futurama just seems more funny and still has better stories these days.
I really enjoy/like/find funny only about 3/10 brand new Simpsons I see while I really enjoy/like/find funny at least 9/10 new epsidoes of Futurama.

IMO The Simpsons are playing for laughs and they can't seem to be able to do that nowadays without going a bit OTT sometimes.

However I would like to point out that this is just my opinion and thoughts on the subject.
Futurama - not quite as good as the Simpsons were but much better than the Simpsons are, if you get what I mean.

I double-plus agree.  Given time, I imagine that Futurama could gradually come back to life and overtake The Simpsons...just like Godzilla and, to a lesser extent, Anguirus when they fought King Ghidrah and Gigan.

I think that fox needs to let the simpsons go (i know you are gonna come after me for that) but seriously they are beating a dead horse here.  Wouldn't you rather see the show retired with some dignity rather than watching this once proud show slip slowly from grace, the quality slowly deteriating until it no longer resembels the show that we all once loved?

meh.  That's what happens to successful shows after time.  The Simpsons has been phenomenly successful, so I'm surprised of the quality that it still has after 12 years.  Sure, it ain't season 5 or anything, but it ain't "Friends" either.

Ah, it's nice to know that someone agrees :)

Anyway, on the subject of the current state of The Simpsons. I still enjoy the show even though it's sunk well below what it used to be. Although I'm devistated that Futurama has been cancelled, (well on hiatus really but I seriously doubt it will make it past 6 Seasons). Because of this it will never have to sink as low as The Simpsons has, which makes me kind of glad.

I agree with that.  A short lifespan for a really great TV show is usually a double edged sword.

This topic has been beaten to death, but oh well. Seasons 3-6ish of The Simpsons, that's the stuff. Some of the best comedy ever written if you ask me. Futurama never quite got to that level, but it's up there. And certainly better than the past four or five seasons of The Simpsons.

I may be totally off the deep end here but isn't that an odd question to ask on a Futurama message board  anyway although the Simpsons was great empisise on the was, Futurama just has more scope and is just more fun in my humble opinion.

I really liked 'The Simpsons' in about a couple a years ago, but since I live in Norway, the chanel that sent the program, just sent the show over and over aigain. So I got bored of it. But 'The Simpsons' is a really good show, but it doesn't interest me so much anymore. So now it's just 'FUTURAMA'!!!   :)

I liked the classic Simpsons, that is, seasons 2 through 7. I'm just not interested anymore because I've seen the reruns a jillion times. Even if there's a new episode, there would be times when I don't feel like watching it. The Simpsons are still strong, but they're losing stamina quickly. Even in Maggied.com, you hear people saying 'I wish The Simpsons were cancelled instead' when they heard of Futurama's dire fate.

Unlike The Simpsons, Futurama was well planned-out from the beginning. Like The Simpsons, all its characters are still fresh and very distinguished, but Futurama's sci-fi edge gives it to get away with a lot more plot ideas than The Simpsons. The Simpsons ruled before Futurama though, so I'm giving them both equal treatment.

With a lot of patience, I recorded ALL The Simpsons episodes, so I left watching the reruns. Depends, I've watched some episodes about 15 or more times, but watching an episode about 1 or 2 times a year you won't get bored of it.

Of course now I prefer Futurama, but still The Simpsons have "something" that made the series a classic. And I usually don't like to mix up the classic Simpsons with the new ones...  :puke:

I like them both the same.
I mean, The Simpsons just has so many more quotable lines, and I think the fact that Ive seen so many more episodes of it also helps "kick it up a notch."

Huh?  Does that make sense?  Anyway, I myself prefer the simpsons, although this could be because although I seen futurama only ten times, that's been just two different shows, because I only ever seem to get the reruns.  However, It's a bit obvious that on a futurama message board, futurama will come out top.

Actually, I got quite tired of the Simpsons after the X-th repeat.  I used to love it though.

One of the main reasons I like Futurama more is that I also like sci-fi. And I really love the computer graphics. (for a good look, see Bender Gets Made: space car chase by gangsters; A head in the Polls: Bender's head drives a tiny car through the Planet Express building; and Godfellas: about the whole episode)

Another reason why I think Futurama is better, is that the makers already had a lot of experience from the Simpsons.  So I agree with Cellery (3d post in this thread) on his point that Futurama was good from the start, whereas the Simpsons weren't.

I prefer Futurama.

The Simpsons peaked at Season 3, stayed there until Season 6, since then it's been gradually declining.  Futurama, on the other hand, has been getting better all the time.  In the UK it premiered on the same night as Family Guy, and during the first season I thought Family Guy was the better show.  Since then however, Futurama's come on in leaps and bounds, and episodes like "Parasites Lost", "Luck of the Fryrish", "Time Keeps on Slipping", "Love & Rocket", and "Leela's Homeworld" have been better than even the Simpsons at it's peak.

The episodes, of the Simpsons, currently showing on BBC2 are the ones when it was supposed to be at its peak but I seldom bother watching, it might be because they've been on several times already, that said I still watch Futurama and South Park episodes I've seen far more times on video.
