So I'm in this course being taught by a local theatre legend. We're dong a sketch comedy show, and I have a part where I get on stage, take my shirt off, jiggle my fat around, draw a face on my stomach, using the nipples as eyes, and talk to it like it's my long lost love. No one is ever going to have sex with me again. :P

Random thought, was browsing through Wikipedia and I noticed that all the "facts" in the article I was reading which were obviously just editorial comentary were marked with [citation needed]. As I contemplated the mindset of the person who had done this, I realised that all of Wikipedia is just a giant game of BS (the card game), except that the players call themselves "contributors" and take the whole thing very seriously.

It's a far more complex game than that Gopher, but you're on the right track.  There are two goals to the game, depending upon what style of play you prefer.  The first way is to vandalize -> vandalize, vandalize some more, get away with vandalization, and vandalize even more.  This is fairly childish, but somehow it's very rewarding to know that when someone looks at an article on 13th century asian physics they'll be introduced to a new element known as dikcheeze.  The second way to play the game, which is more complex, more time consuming, and possibly more rewarding is to powerlevel your way to admin.  Vandalization is pretty simple, make up something and edit various articles; the path to admin takes getting trust of the hivemind that includes all the other admins (they all think the same).  All the admins behave exactly the same, they randomly revert everything because they believe everyone is a vandal or a troll and then they ban people.  To gain their control, one should start an account, build a user page, and write a program.  The user page should say that you love patrolling recent changes (RC Patroling) to articles; that's what the program is for.  You should write the program to check recent changes and randomly revert them, they should especially revert changes in talk pages that either make fun of an existing admin or disagree with them.  No one actually likes RC Patrol... it's gay, it's boring, and it's stupid... but the Hive Mind and anyone who wants to participate has to think like the Hive Mind.  You shouldn't ever worry about being in trouble for reverting somebody's recent change... that person was probably a vandal.. or a troll, and nobody likes them anyways.  The next step to adminleveling is you should take part in talk pages where other admins are discussing things, you should always agree with them, and vote to delete pages.  When new people are up for consideration to be admin, you should vote them to be admin as well, these people will vote for you when you are ready to become admin.  Then you put in to become admin, people vote for you, and then you ban people randomly.  No one will care if you did it unfairly, the people you ban were probably trolls... or vandals... and nobody liked them anyways.  You could also probably sell your admin account on eBay...

I got a lot of this information from the Encyclopedia Dramatica article on Wikipedia... despite the source, I think most of this information is very accurate.  It sounds like a really fun game too... I've been thinking about playing myself.   :)

Actually... it's a lot like the tabletop RPG game Paranoia.  I've been looking up strategy guides to playing Wikipedia!  :)

What's really problematic is when reality seems to spiral into a blurry spasm of paranoid disreality.  No one can be trusted, they are undefineable... imaginary.  Including yourself.  It becomes very important to keep focus, or they'll find you.  If they can understand it, they'll beat you to it, change the rules, the impact will be detrimental.  You'll lose control.  Nor will you exist.

winna: I must point out that, as you indicated in the last line of your lengthy post, you were describing strategies for playing the game; you did not contradict my original assertion that the game is BS. I was not incorrect, as your opening line implied, I merely skimmed the surface. You, on the other hand, truly probed the depths.

While I'm responding, I approve, stylistically,  of the single overwhelming paragraph*, but it's daunting to most audiences. Smaller paragraphs are more easily digested, and (slightly) less likely to be skipped over.

Of course, your intended audience is also a factor in such decisions...

I think was explicitly implying that Wikipedia is a more complex game than BS... although the ideas are similar.  Did you agree with my belief that it was similar in nature to Paranoia... or have you never played?

Also... do you want to play the Wikipedia game?  You're more likely to succeed in teams.

I am not familiar with Paranoia, so I cannot comment. And no, I have no desire to piss on Wikipedia, sorry. Screwed up as it can sometimes be, it's not really any worse than the way any encyclopedia is compiled, only headless, in slow-motion, and "naked" (the editorial process is exposed).

Everybody's tried pasta with chicken. Her approach to cooking is for simpletons and I could've thought up all her recipes if I'd felt like it. Anyways, it's the non-cooking aspects of her show (the Oprah-style one she's running) I'm opposed to. Especially her "Pets vs. people" segment.

Hi Nurdy  :)

Note that I didn't die. You can cancel the Pehlps' family ticket to the UK. Though dying on the way to a gay bashing funeral protest... that's irony. Alanis Morissette irony. That'd only be ironic if they died from severe internal wounds caused by an 18" dildo. Right guys?!

People who claim that doing extra hours isn't worth it because once the tax is taken off you wind up worse off.
People who claim that you can make a living off gambling.

You're all bad at maths or lying or stupid. Stop being one or more of those things.

Archies, i talked to a mate who's now going into 2nd year maths, apparently you get about 10 straight exams at the end of the year that are quite hellish. Enjoy!

I'll be coming up to visit my mate from school, he wanted to know where in the Uni you were actually staying too.

@Ninaka: What's wrong with my pants? They're my camping pants, due to spending theprevious three nights places like here...

Different pants, and even a bag...

@PikkaBird: I looked into it and it turns out that it is indeed a howling wolf. Bought from the kinky nurse outfit shop in Camden too. I wins it.

@Nurdbot: Turns out I cut off one of guys from that group with his Aberdeen University hoodie. Is this some sort of reverse chavvishness like the sort I read about it tracts like No Logo but have never seen in real life, or is it possible that Cornish chavs actually go to university? Do they teach car theft, lock picking and advanced strawpedoing in Scotch unis. Gaschief?

Is this the point where VelourFog makes fun of me for bragging about my holiday?  :o

I guess that's alright then. I was worried you were turning into some sort of Hammerfall-fan or something. That reminds me, by the way, of the apparent fact that the supplier of captains' hats in Camden no longer exists. Or it may have moved. It is certain that that entire section of the hobo market had been cleared, though.

I doubt much Chavs go to University. It requires effort and common sense not to walk into the road where people drive cars. It must be stolen or traded for cheap drink.

Seriously, 'Cornish' (Term used loosely, a large percentage of them are about as Cornish as a Ginsters Pasty) chavs don't care that the road is for cars. I sincerely hope somebody makes them learn but running them over.
