Yo! Wooter, Mom, FilthyCrab.
A certain Mr Leadbelly would like a word with you  :)

Well. That funeral was quite a draining experince. But it was a beutiful one never the less, hope you liked it Jamie old friend.

A very close pub and some good old friends helped with the trauma though. Ale goes right through me :/.

Otherwise I do love the title of this thread for it's entertainment value.

Did anyone sing "Danny Boy" like Nixorbo was threatening to do?

You're offically banned from opening a new test thread anyway.  Because your titles suck more than Pasties titles, and your mom put together.

Nope. No Danny Boy.

Things were pretty emotional anyways. It was quite a casual Funeral, A lot of mixed people in suits and casual wear. I even spotted somebody wearing a 'Vote for Pedro' t-shirt.

I remember my best mates funeral in 1999.  26 is no age to die, but it was great service.  He had loads of his mates there, and when his coffin was brought in to "Epic" by Faith No More (a band we were both obsessed with), I lost all poise and utterly broke.  I still miss him to this day.

Yeah, definitely.  I think that's the time when it finally really hits you.  I'd been strong that day, for other friends and stuff, then that was the moment when I couldn't keep it up any longer.  I've never cried so much.

I went to a open casket wake of my cousin-in-law, Kieth, last year.
It really hurt, because I had just talked to him a month before, and it was the first time I'd ever had a meaningful talk with him, and he ended up giving me some advice in that talk to really led to some great fun learning experiences that very same day. It was also the last time I ever talked to him before he died suddenly of a heart attack the nest month...it was messed up.
I miss Keith a lot. He was a great guy.

My grandad died last year. They had him cremated.

It's funny how something with such a funny name as 'Bowel Cancer' can be so deadly...

There's no way I'm complaining about a Thread title VF started.

Sorry about the funeral Nurdy.  They're never easy and bring out all sorts of emotions you didn't even realize were stewing below the surface.  I hope you manage to find peace soon.

I was at the cemetary today, cleaning up my grandparent's site.  I can't believe I lost my grandmother 22 years ago, and my grandfather 10 years ago.  It seams like they were just here.

I've seen 23 friends and my mother die over the past decade.  I've had untold numbers of patients die during my Trauma ICU days.

So last week we had a patient die from complications caused my a severe heart attack.  I was precepting a new nurse that night - it was her first death and she was seriously shaken.  I let her take a break while I dealt with the family and made arangements with the funeral home for transport of the deceased.

When she came back, she asked me how I was able to be so professional - how long does it take to become hardened to the point that it doesn't bother her?

That's the rub - any human with any sort of consious never gets to the point that it doesn't matter, but has to deal with it so the other patients relying on you for their care won't be compromised.

So after working for 20+ years in a field that death is all to common, every death still hits me hard - I just don't let others see it because I'm the person that the junior staff looks up to as a roll model.

My doctor is concerned about my future actions after Kelly dies because he knows she is the only thing that keeps me gut-punching my way through this journey called life.

Not to worry, I still have some things that I must do, a few injustices that I must attempt to correct before my days on this rotating mudball are over.

So Nurdbot, remember your friend and remember that all of us are fragile beings - cherish your friends and family.  Most important, let them know how special they are to you, because one day you may not have the chance.

You know that by suggesting a test thread be named after you that you have forever cursed any test thread named after you? Any closed thread named after you will come back as a zombie thread controlled by Yardstick and be filled with nooby, on-topic banter announcing that Futurama's coming back for the nth time, chat speak, conspiracy theories about 9/11, and advertisements for the newest and coolest phone from Motorola.
