Stop laughing, I'm actually being some sort of serious. Nickelback rocked pretty well before "Silver Side Up" (the opening track on "The State" (Breathe) makes your car go really fast, for instance), and even after that was released, there's still been at least three hard rockin' songs on each album.

They do need to burn the piece of paper with that "sure thing"-formula written on it. I'm sick of listening to How You Remind Me with a new title over and over again.

Well, I just got rejected by one of the grad schools I applied to.  One down, five to go.  Then I start seriously looking at my current job as a career.

Then I OD on heroin to end it all.

What exactly do you do, anyway? That's something I've always wondered on here...

...also, didn't you originally go to Rutgers or something?

Radio stations have a knack for ruining music for me.  Not that the new Nickleback was all that great to begin with, but it certainly wasn't unlikeable.  Unfortunately, when the radio stations play it ALL THE MOTHERFARKING TIME it gets old.  It's not that I really dislike My Chemical Romance either, but I swear, if they play Welcome to the Black Parade one more time ...

I remember back when I was in high school, my usual radio station played Tool's Schism all the time.  To the order of several times a day.  Once I counted it four times during daylight hours, and that didn't count when I was in class that day.  I didn't always dislike Tool, but KXRX kinda screwed that up.

I miss my satellite radio.  It works here, but the reception is crummy, so it's not worth it.  I might switch to Sirius ... I know they have repeaters within range.

Yes, I went to Rutgers.  Then I got a Master's degree.  Now I am an automotive machinist making shit for money and inhaling iron filings all day, and I'm sick of it.  And I have a Master's degree.

Kids, this is why you should never try.

On a less "high fever" note, the PC we use at work to create cds and dvds of our software committed seppuku or something, because it sure doesn't power on at all.  Instead I'm forced to copy a set of 7 cds manually using a linux machine, a type of computer I've never once used before.  Got it figured out, but man is it a pain.

Actually, it rather reminds me of a mac OS, at least stylisticly.

Tell them you had a stomach virus all night and were thus too exhausted in the morning to call out. They won't want to hear any more details. Everyone knows what "stomach virus" means.

Diarrhea.  ;)

yeah, I was thinking along those lines.  And it would work because I have to be there at 5am, so I could have been too exhausted.  Im not overly worried, because if I got fired, I think Id have a fairly good shot at a lawsuit. There was a guy in the same area as I that often didnt show up and didnt call in and he was never fired, and only written up once, thats sexual discrimination or something right?

I was also thinking about saying I thought I had called in, but I felt so awful I might have just fallen asleep without realizing.

I know what you mean. There's so much music that's perfectly good but having heard it every day for the past how many years on radio makes you want to scream and kill someone. Nickelback certainly fit that bill. As does Damien Rice, much to certain person's consternation.   :D
So instead I wind up playing more obscure shit in my car so no-one ever gets into my car and goes "Holy shit man this is so good" and that makes me sad.  :(

Well, it happened - I'm in the hospital room admitting Kelly.  She has systemic strep - the same stuff I had last week.

At least she's comfortable.  Some Fentanyl, some phenergan, some IV antibiotics and she's resting.

Now I have the fun of informing her parents.

Oh fucking joy.

She weak.  Real weak.  Her immune system is crapped out and any opportunistic infection is rough on her.  She's actually lived longer than we expected her to, but one day the luck is going to run out.

To call them uncaring, wothless pieces of shit would be compimentary.  They haven't really had much to do with her since she left Wales in 1986, but they can sure critisize both of us.  The 'You should do this...' crap.

You would think they would be proud of a daughter who got a scholarship to an American University, managed to finance her way to America, graduate with a degree, gain American citizenship and manage to make enough money to move her parents and sister to America from Ireland would get some praise.  She has never gotten a kind word said to her and it tears her up!

Her parents have never encouraged her in any way.  All they have ever done is critisize her.  Her choice to move to America on her own, her choice to marry me, etc.  Still, she keeps lines of communication open with them, hoping to one day get a small nugget of appreciation and confirmation from them.

They could both die a firey, puss-filled death as far as I'm concerned, but for Kelly's sake I'm actually civil towards them.  :finger:  Most of the time.

Everything reminds me of I Love Lucy. I've been watching way too much of it. I'm seeing things that aren't supposed to be!

And another thing: The trio of Nerds. There seems to be one near me all the damned time. Even when I'm sitting on a log in bushland smoking a bong. They're. Always. There. Talking about computers, Dragonball Z, and the token girl is always ugly and has a rogue mole on the side of her face with hair coming out of it.

2. SineWave already knows that it is his turn, based on the post which told you (and everybody else) that he's "up" now.

I've noticed you doing this in this thread before and it's really pissing me off. You are doing nothing useful by making these posts, you're just wasting bandwidth in a transparent and pathetic attempt to up your own post count. That's spam. That's what kills message boards. You're like the fur inside one of PEEL's arteries whenever you do something like that.

It doesn't contribute to the thread, and you don't even bother with the (oh so thin) disguse of slipping a "congratulations" in there.

Please, for the love of God, stop doing this. First of all, the use of the wrong word is driving me nuts. Second of all, the fact that you're doing it at all is incredibly annoying, because it implies (if we assume that you have a grain of common sense and a sense of common courtesy) that you see nothing wrong with it.

Go take a good long look at the PEEL FAQ, which should help to guide your habits in a better direction.

I didn't want to post this, but furious angry rage got the better of me. However, I've posted my rant here and cross-linked, so as to avoid filling the Frame Grab thread with ranting. Which I think is indicative of the fact I have not completely degenerated into an angry protoplasmic ball of judgement.

Edit: I think the reason that it made me so angry is that the Frame Grab thread is one of the last places left in Off-Topic that hasn't been totally overrun by spazchuckers. It's come close, but it's more or less okay. I don't want to see one of the last great bastions of PEEL overwhelmed by morons. Once the floodwaters rise high enough, we'll all be doomed. Doomed! Doomed!

It's funny that you said that. Today in class my teacher played two Nickelback songs at the exact same time, on the left channel one on the right. They were nearly identical! They even had the reprise at the exact same time and length. They both ended at exactly the same time. Same tempo, same key changes.

They suck.

But then, I'm sure you would also say it reminds you of an episode of SouthPark.

Thanks.  I just got back from the hospital and talking to her docs.  She has Urosepsis, bacterial meningitis and aplastic leukemia.  She's on a Fentanyl PCA pump for pain control and has been moved to my floor - at least I know my coworkers will give her the best possible care and keep her comfortable.  I will soon lay down because I haven't had any sleep for the past 29 hours and the world is getting kinda fuzzy.

I was under the impression that the situation was the same in the States. If you pass your test on an automatic does that then grant you license to drive a stick too?

In the UK you can get a special license that only allows you to drive an automatic. Maureen from Driving School (obscure Brit reference) got one after failing her first 10 driving tests.

Nope.  One size fits all here in the states.  Auto, Stick, it doesn't matter - a drivers license allows you to operate any passenger car, truck or van regardless of transmission.  We have licenses specific for large cargo vehicles, like transport trucks or vans that carry more than 16 people, but overall a license gives you carte blanche priviledges for driving anything.

Hell, some states don't even require an endorsement to drive motorcycles (Colorado does and a motorcycle endorsement isn't easy to get).

Christ, my first car was a 1969 Mustang with a 4 speed manual and almost every care I've own has been a stick.  I drive automatics now because I'm too lazy to shift.

Baggy, give yourself some credit - a manual may look intimidating, but after doing it a few times it'll become second nature and you'll drive without even thinking about shifting.

My rant:  I can't sleep.  I'm exhausted, but I just lay in the bed.  Well, at least I can watch Ghost Rider previews on my computer.

You'll love that Mini.  I have a neighbor who owns one and it's a fun little car to drive.  I'm still amazed at how my Mustang dwarfs the thing.  It doesn't have the sheer power of my Mustang, but it sure handles the mountain roads better than the Mustang ever will.
