See, the problem adressed in the thread title is the exact reason I don't ever post a lot in these threads. Nobody cares for games. Only for specs. Also, when someone finally discusses games, it's fucking Final Fantasy 7, grrr!

Out of thoise, I vote Wii. I was gonna get one for X-mas, but... I canged my mind. The only reason I wanted one is because the new Zelda game (The Twilight Princess) was commin out on that.. so I was gonna get it. I found out now that It's also commin out on gamecube. So, sonce I found out that I like more of the games for gamecube better, I'm gettin that.

Squaresoft was not always the monstrous success it now is - they were in fact in danger of going out of business when they released Final Fantasy.  The game was likely to be Squaresoft's last game ever, so they called it Final Fantasy.  Imagine their surprise when it saved the company.

And only 7 and 8 were released to PC.

I have not played any new system but seeing the video of Mario Galaxy [This may be what Mario 128 has been. If you don't know, look on wikipedia] so that's why the Wii got my vote.  I'm not into graphics and life like games, I prefer my N64 and the Wii look like a good follow up the N64.

Woooo! I gotted the PC version of True Crime: Streets of LA. Contrary to popular belief amongst idiots and my younger brother, that is in fact pronounced "El - Ay" and not "Laaaaaaaaa". 

The game's selling point was it's 240m2 city. That's wonderful. Now where's my magical supersonic helicopter?

Nintendo will always be my favorite, The first video game I ever played was on the SNES. Ever since then, most of the games I've played for the systems are great, especially the Mario and Zelda ones.

I know you're not being 100% serious, but it's this kind of attitude that really pisses me off. We can complain all we want. $600 is too much for a videogame system. Especially when there aren't any good games for it yet, and especially when those not-good games are $10 more than normal.

And it's not so much about being poor(ok, it is for me, but not for everybody)--it's about priorities. Think of all of the things that AREN'T PS3s that you could buy for $600. You could buy 600 double cheeseburgers from McDonalds! That's 600 meals(or 300, if you're a fatty who eats two at a time like me) for the price of one videogame console. Or you could just buy a Wii, a couple of games, and 250 cheeseburgers. Still a great deal compared to a PS3. You could also buy $600 worth of dirt. Still a better buy than the PS3. Dirt is still a format that will be supported in five years.

Chay: Actually, in a year Sony will be begging /us/ to take them back.   

I'm not anti-sony, they just have nothing to entice me that's worth $1000 right now. I know I'll get one eventually, but there are just no games for it atm that I want and can't get for 360, and the launch titles are in the grand Sony tradition - crap.

The PS3 to me is waaaaay expensive. I don't want to pay more than 200 pounds max for a games console. With the amount of money a PS2 costs, I could upgrade or get a much better gaming PC.

So after a little more research, I've discovered that you can buy hdtvs online for "reasonable" prices. Froogle shows them as starting at $250 for a bottom of the line 27" CRT hdtv. Let's assume if you're gonna buy hdtv, you'll want something a tad better. We'll say you buy a conservatively priced $400 tv, after shipping and handling's figured in.

$600 console
$350 worth of games over a few months, at $70 each. 5 games is pretty bare-bones anyhow. Why get an expensive console if you're only going to have a few games?
$100 worth of controllers, memory cards, what have you. Sundries.
$400 tv

$1450, plus 7% sales tax (7% is New York's sales tax rate and NY is where I live, so I'm using it).

Bottom line: $1551 spent on video games. And this isn't a fancy setup. Add $500 if you wanna get a nicer (but still nowhere near high-end) tv. Add $350 to get up to 10 games. Add fees for online play. Plus tax of course. Plus whatever you want to spend on sound system and other accessories like a headset for online play. It could come up to $2500 easily.

Or I could buy a Wii, keep my current 28" tv, buy the games for $10 less apiece, pick up the controllers and accessories, and invest the remaining $1500 more wisely.
