You've seen them take up several pages at a time in other threads, now Yardstick and his friends have their very own special thread to post in. Let the christian delights and Bush supporting commence.

The point I was trying to make [and that you seem to have missed entirely]is the blind following of the Bible when it comes to bashing gays and burning Harry Potter books but strangely I hear nothing of 'devout Christians' burning their houses down due to dry rot or owning slaves.

You go from calling me personally a "bible-thumping moron"  and a "bigot" and accusing me of spreading "hartred"..... to talking about how some people bash gays and burn Harry Potter books, neither of which I do? Your "point" really seems to be to conduct a smear campaign against me because I'm not a wishy-washy semichristian who will roll over and accept whatever you declare about homosexuality.

And you seem to be intentionally ignoring certain things I've said, in order to draw this "argument" out. Let me quote them for you.

Quote
I don't think people who murder homosexuals or picket their funerals with signs saying "God hates fags" can truly qualify as Christians. They've twisted a beautiful thing into an excuse for acting out their violent and cruel agendas.

Just because I think living a homosexual lifestyle is sinful doesn't mean I want to see people harm them.

Quote
The Old Testament laws are no longer followed because Jesus came and changed the nature whereby man relates to God. Not to mention bringing to fruition everything that the Old Testament stood for.

Which is why we don't stone adulterers and refrain from eating pork. That method of relationship with God is ended.

And a few more side notes -

Quote
The Bible was written 2,000 years ago, long before you or I where born

The Bible was written over several thousand years, with the most recent parts written under 2,000 years ago. Unless I'm mistaken, it goes back over 7,000 years.

Ralph is not a Christian, he used to be one. He also holds many views that are neither right-wing nor Christian. But he and I get along just fine because neither of us is the type to start calling people "Bible-thumping bigot morons" with no provocation.

You, YS, are a complete jerk, looking to pick fights with people who don't agree with you, and calling names and vilifying them. I don't hurt homosexuals, which is what you say your gripe is. So why don't you crawl back into your hole and try to form a little more balanced and mature worldview?

FTW.

I also like how you keep coming back to that whole dry-rot busines even though that has been thoroughly rendered toothless.  Persistence is only a virtue up to a certain point.

And I'm pretty sure *you* made it a "Yardstick hates Christians" argument when you said "I hate Christians."

Hey TMC, did we ever bother to burn my entire Harry Potter collection?  Because apparently we're supposed to be doing that.

2,000 years, 7,000 years what ever, the point is you should pay little attention to a book written so long ago that proberly isnt even true anyway.

I never called you that, I called you a Bible-thumping Right Winger because your views are the same kind of dogmatic bs that I have read on Christian websites. [gays are evil, women are evil ect]

Christians think women are evil? And 'gays', too? Man... Tough break, for them.

Yardstick, you need to drop this 'Liberal' act and adopt a 'Nihilistic' act. You won't have a stomach ulcer, a throbbing vein on your forehead and look like a fool - rather, you'll be like me. You'd love to be like me. I'm not stressed by what goes on with anyone. Homosexuals being bashed? So? Churches being burnt? Yeah, so what? I'm being stabbed to death? Cool.

It's a good way to live your life.  :)

something yardstick said
2,000 years, 7,000 years what ever, the point is you should pay little attention to a book written so long ago that proberly isnt even true anyway.

Yardstick, I think youre missing a key point of the Bible.  Yeah, there are rules and laws that Christians should follow, but most of the stories in there, and Jesus, its just telling you to be a generally good person.

TMC thinks being gay is a sin because it is in the Bible.  On the same hand, he doesnt go beating the crap out of them... because of the Bible.  In my religion classes we were taught mostly that you follow the commandments, and do your best to be a good person - ask God for forgiveness and help when you screw up, and youll be just fine.  That includes gay people.

Theres a difference between not approving of a lifesyle and accepting its there.  TMC knows, like the rest of us Christians that there are gay people out there.  We may not approve of what they do - but at the same time we know theres not much we can do about it.  Those people who protest and say horrible things to gay people are NOT true Christians.

Think of it this way.  Every 10 year old out in the states today wants to dress slutty-ish because of famous people like Britney Spears.  Now - I dont like, or approve of that, but I dont have any kids, and going up to someone elses kids and yelling at them isnt my buisness.  I may not like it, but I really cant do too much about it.

Anyways, the real point is that - who cares how old the book is?  Id much rather follow a book about being a good person, than read some stupid crap Micheal Moore just put out and believe that.

*note: TMC may not think any of this, but I used your name to make a point

I'm not agitated, though. The closest to agitation I've come has been mild irritation at your ongoing unprovoked antagonism. You're the one getting offensive and angry, while I'm sitting here watching the show, responding with refutations when appropriate.

My approach is generally "Live and let live". Your seems to be "attack no matter what, until everyone says they agree with you".

OK does it PERSONALLY affect you if gays where allowed to marry? Would it disrupt your life? The answer is...no. So through out that 7,000 year old hate-book and get some gay friends. Mabe then you will understand how I and many other tolerant reople feel.

Christians don't hate gays and they certainly don't hate women.

I think this thread has gone far to far. Yardstick is entitled to think what he wants to think. And if it bothers you, you have a right not to listen.

Yardstick, I have an idea.  Go have homosexual sex with Michael Moore.  Tape it, and put it out onto the market.  You think Christians gay bash now?  Just wait till that tape gets out - it wont be just the Christians  :D

Yardstick isn't a fake account...

Yardstick, having a problem with homosexuality, and having a problem with homosexuals are two completely different things.  The really old book that you want to burn (since you like burning books for some reason) actually poses a good guideline for how to live.  Not only that, but it still stands as a historical document of how people lived oh so many millenia ago.  No one here has a problem if homosexuals get married, they have a problem with homosexual behavior at its very core.  And what's with the women bashing?  I don't recall treating women like shit or inferior being in the Bible, maybe you need to get your facts straight, but I for one really like women.  ;)

In total fairness, it kind of is: Eve the proto-woman's genesis as 'taken out of man', her role as a 'helper' to man, her role in the Fall; commentary within bits of the OT about women's wickedness and how it's her fault we all die; daughters being sold by fathers in exodus; rules of inheritance in the old Mosiac law excluding daughters; the fearful pollution that was menstration and childbirth, and how giving birth birth to a girl required twice as much ritual cleansing as giving birth to a boy.

Equally, other bits - notably the NT - of the Bible put women on an equal footing with men. Go figure! Cutural/historical context is fun!

Can people please stop believing in god? The jokes over, come on! It was probably hilarious back in the day (lol @ the crusades) but it's just boring now. We get it, people are stupid, but i think it's time to let the joke die. The church totally killed it.

Even if i'm wrong (I have blind faith that i'm not) i'm sure something cool like this will happen to me.
