Who knew that JB was a trance fan?  ;)

I'd love to record some of my drumming but frankly I haven't a clue how to go about it. Any help anyone?

Hmm, depends what mics you use, if you get decent overheads, then you only need two to get a decent stereo sound.

I did a flash movie of a water bottle's journey in the park but its 3.2 mb so it wouldn't load at home. The website i created for it though was www.myspace.com/pure_water  . So those 2 things combined were my final project in my one class. The other class my final was that petition but it kinda branched out into other forums once I got into it (you know how it is). So the webpage I designed describing that is http://abufffrog.tripod.com/foxgobye.html  , or if you check the homepage my other crappy project is on there as well. ahhh LAST DAY OF CLASS NO SLEEP zzzzzz i shouldn't be driving -_-

haha nm i got it to upload on the school comps in 10 min

If my soud card wasn't borked, I'd comment on Bergey's music. But that's not for now...

I've been slacking off on the 3d for a while, animation beyond the basic stages is something I never really got into before my hiatus. Tweaking the graphs was how far I got, although I did get a good feel for it.
So recently I started modelling that custom guitar I posted a picture of in the guitar thread... It's still a WIP (I could post pictures if anyone's interested), and I have no materials and textures done yet (one of the other things that never came naturally to me). I found that modelling shapes for stuff like that is much like learning to ride your bicycle. I've nailed raw polygon shape modelling pretty well and need no schooling there, I think.

What I'm looking for now is a website with large sample images of wooden surfaces (exotic woods) to make the textures from. Who knows of such a site?

Oh, I also need to figure out good hierarchies for constraints so I can animate decent suspension for vehicles...

 http://www.mayang.com/textures/

Wood is always something I've struggled with.  At work I've gotten a chance to learn VRay.  It's an amazing renderer.  it almost makes it too easy.  still I prefer mental ray, I dunno why, I'm really bad with it.  I know it's capable of anything it's just so damn hard to learn because I can't find any good tutorials or books on it.

I guess I should throw up something I've done today, to help myself feel accomplished.  I've been spending so much time on R&D that I've got very little to show for how much time I've spent.  Seriously, this is all I do, all day.

I had this model done awhile ago, I've been tweeking it, mainly texture work, I think this is pretty damn close to the stle I wanna have for my next animation, which is really drianing me because I'm in the process of teaching myself lip sync. pardon my rambling.

you should look up the path constraint (http://www.maxhelp.com/content/tutorials/path/path.htm), as far as the wheels rolling accurately...

this path constraint technique is a little more in depth and may come in handy http://www.rethinkfx.com/tutorials/ball.htm

or you may want to look into reactor wheels, I've never used them but they might suit your needs. http://www.3dkingdom.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=835

also you might want to look into expression controllers, if you're familiar with programing you can work miracles having the wheels turning and revolving automatically depending on the movement and rotation of the car.  it's a thing of beauty.

and if you're going for realistic car paint look up mental ray tutorials for it (mental ray comes free with max) and read up on hdri's.

Wonderful, wonderful! I use Blender, and I'm working all alone on a full length film. Due to time I have free to work on it, I expect it to be finished sometime 2025. Your model there is lovely. I'm seriously jealous.

thank you xanfor.  A whole film, alone?  I thought I was crazy for trying to create a series of 5 minute shorts.  I've never used blender, seen a lot about it though, looks great. you should share some of your work.

My scene, by the way, is really quite simple, just basic poly modeling.  The real polish comes from having a good grasp of procedural textures (i'm sure blender has them, maybe called something else) and realistic lighting, ie. global illumination which I just recently have gotten into and I'm loving it.

I never realized there were so many people here that're into 3d.  we should make an exclusive 3d thread.  Sure I could just go to a 3d forum, but god know what kind of cartoons they're into.

It's mainly a hobby, not a profit thing. No work on it yet, I'm still writing the script. (And probably will be for a while)

Oh, and you should start a thread. I made the mistake of visting [url]www.nerd3d.com[url]. Don't. You don't want to know what they're into. I'd much rather talk about it here. Where there are no perverts...

I was asked to tell the story of what would happen in a gunfight between Vash teh Stampede from trigun and Jayne from Firefly.  I thought it was a story best told in comic format using stick figures.

Further proof that I'm a comic writer in search of an artist.

Edit: I meant to put this in the 3d thread but this internet is strange and confuses me.  Forgive me, but I suppose this works too.

Anyway I thought I'd post this here, it was from a challange last week.

Theme was "look what the cat dragged in".

Pure Blender with a small amount of post pro.   :)

Linked picture

p.s. thats a mighty fine picture of the moon airbags, better then what I could get.

looks cool DD.  how long did it take you to make that?  It seems like a lot of modeling for a speed challenge.  then again I'm a really slow modeler.  I can't believe how many 3d people there are in this forum... I'll take it upon myself to mention that there's also a 3d thread for talking about this stuff more in depth: http://www.peelified.com/cgi-bin/Futurama/12-002919/
