After careful re-evaluation of the laws put down in the Unity of Tchazanovite Nations Treaty banning any single member nation from signing to separate treaties, and also the laws of the Space Treaty itself, Premier Zvĕvonĕv has concluded that it is perfectly permissible for Zedoljev to support this Treaty. In a specially called Sovĕt Soyza (Council of the Union) delegates from all the nations of the Union and Burning Flame voted unanimously in favour of the ZNSS backing this treaty.

Premier Zvĕvonĕv had been telling the press that he was backing the proposal but a formal decision had been delayed due to concerns whether this conflicted with the regulations of the UoTN. Once a legitimate route, or "opening" as Zvĕvonĕv would call it, into the Space Treaty could be found, the ZNSS would enter. So after the vote in favour from the Sovĕt Soyza had been called, and a brief meeting with advisors, the Premier triumphantly announced to the waiting press the line "Mĭ naŝli lazĕĩku!" - We have found that opening.

@Slimmy - your password should be the exactly the same as the name of your country.  :)

@Nerdor - don't be too sure about that. Bush attacking a completely fictious country seems a logical step after attacking a real country for completely fictious reasons.

Sargus Telecomunications News

Politics
Following preasure from the media and opposition parties the government has anounced that an investigation will be made into links between Sargus and the Slimonian scandals. The investigation will be lead by James Burnell.
---
The prime minister is said to have been delighted by Zedoljev acceptance of the space treaty. She went on to stress the importance of independant nations such as Zedoljev taking the time to reach an informed decision over the treaty and that this example should encourage others to do the same.

Economics
A recent upturn in the markets has eased fears of a further recession in Sargus. The privitisation of the passenger and freight airlines in sargus has no doubt helped matters, as well as some restrictions in place over new developments.
The Conservative Economic Party still critisised the governments harsh taxation plans and blaimed them for a lack of industrial progress compared to other nations.

Science and Technology
The first two sections of the S4 space station have successfully docked in orbit. Three spacemen, one Sargusian and two Slimmonian are aboard. The telescope module is going to be launched next month once a number of tests have been run on the new satalite.

[occ]The reason I wanted a standardised time was so that I could say 'X will happen in N years' and then claim it to be done without putting someone N years ahead of where they expected to be. 5 years cannot pass in my nation when 1 has passed in another. The actual date and change of year time can remain flexible, but I would like to know when my nation has progressed another year or whatever. I am sure there is a good reason why not to do this, so if you know one then feel free to discuss it.[/occ]

The imperial states of slimmy have officially left the united nations once again since they claim it was unnecessary for the emperor to have external laws in the states... This is the 3rd time the emperor has joined and left the united nations.

Only a few days after the scandal of Abu Ghraib was revealed I had the issue about using torture. General George W. Bush advised me that torture were the only language our enemies understood and respected. I felt that was kinda weird. Then again it was Obsidian Order who got the issue, so ofcourse I did what Dubya advised.

N^4 News Break
With the recent advances in the USSN space program, we are proud to report that there are now 3 nonclassified satellites in geosynchronous orbit above our nation - strictly in accordance with the impending Space Treaty, naturally.
---
In related international news, Chairman Nor proposed today to the other leaders of PEEL a global network of telecommunications and global positioning satellites, based on a design proposed by Nerdoramian Scientists.  This will, according to the Directory of Communications and the Directory of Aerospace Development, greatly increase the free exchange of information between nations of PEEL.  Also, a global system of geosynchronous satellites is soon to be illegal without permission of all equatorial nations, so we pretty much have to make it an international cooperation.  Nerdor offers the services of our satellite launch facility, but requests that fabrication be shared between assenting nations.
---
Earlier today, a commander of the People's Air Guard was finally named, but since this is international news, nobody really cares who.

Oh I meant to say, I'm currently updating that map to make it to the same standard as the main PEEL map, which also includes slightly redrawing the other landmasses to make it look less like I've traced around where I've sneezed all over the screen...  :p

It's not what I'd consider unused, let's just say the rest of the world is out there and a lot of other regions - like the Urallian Homelands, which is an authentic NationStates Region I created a while back, exist.  :)

Yeah, basically I think we're going to limit PEEL settlement to the landmass we're currently on.

The purpose of the planetary map as I see it is this:

It gives us the opportunity to utilise other nations which are not necessarily run by other PEELers. This means we can have wars, exploration and trade without having to worry about inter-PEELer continuity (although that's a good thing when it does happen, make no mistake  ;)).

The only part we may expand to (if we ever need to expand again, which at the moment isn't likely), is the spur which runs down the western coast of West New America (the Far West, anyone?  ;)).

A couple of other bugs...
For the MiG 57 series, I put down the designers as - AKB "MiG" / Pipe Aerospace
Whenever I edit the data, the designer field just says - AKB - and that's it. Should I in future put AKB #MiG# etc, etc?
Also, whenever I edit something, I always have to reset the manufacture, since it seems to automatically go back to an Unlisted Company - and when creating new stuff, I cannot set its manufacturer until I edit it afterwards - all it has is the option of an Unlisted Company.

Fixed. It was both a problem with the editing and the viewing of equipment (wasn't parseing the Speed field).

At the moment you'd still end up with the AKB #MiG# in the field, since I haven't enabled the replacement operation on any field other than Details. It's one of those annoying things about HTML - since an edit box looks somewhat like this:

<INPUT NAME="xx_name" VALUE="$value">

If "$value" contains any '"' symbols it will prematurely terminate the field (check the source of the HTML form, and you'll see that the value is there but ignored by the browser).

So what I'd suggest you do is use "'" symbols instead.  :)

Fixed in both cases. Came about because I changed my mind between the "add" script and the "edit" script about what the companies directory was going to be called.   :p

SLIMMY XVI DEAD

What was to be expected for a long time, the former emperor of slimmy died only 2 hours ago of old age, he died at an age of 104. Although his son has been the active emperor for several decades now, it is still a memorable event. Slimmy XVI was very well known in the post west peelistan regime, and the bond with south slimmy that made it possible for his son (the current emperor) to unify the empire into the imperial states of slimmy.

The death of this emperor will ofcourse not be be public among the people of the empire. Many northern people still hold to the fact that the emperor never dies. But in reality it is just the son taking the place of his father. And only the eyes of the emperor are shown in public messages to the people.

Salutes to a great emperor in slimonian history!

You go to this link, change the type to "other" and put something like "Please resurrect my nation : Forsaken Azeroth". Then wait a little while and keep checking the region of PEEL; once your nation is revived, it will automatically be removed to the region "Lazarus". Then move back to PEEL (use the password found above).  :)

By the way, I'd like to apologise to anyone I freaked out by filling the updates screen with "PWF : Nation 'New Cyberia' updated by uberadmin". An annoying bug was haunting my script which could only be tested on the server.  :p

On that note : the PWF is now completely customisable. Everything from national grammar to capitals to the PEELer who runs it can be changed now, as well as the MPPs, NAPs, and TARAs (you have to both change it in each nation).

You can also upload a high-definition version of your flag (then click on the little flag in the nation screen to access it) and a high-definition version of your map.  :D

  • Former Emperor Slimmy XVI Dies

World leaders around the region are sending their deepest sympathies the way of the ruling Slimmy family in the Empire of Slimmy tonight, as the former emperor, Slimmy XVI, passed away. President Jack Baruk of the GCU sent his own personal sympathies to the Slimmonean embassy, lamenting the loss of "a great man".

  • Space Law Looks Set to Become Binding

The DROOP Space Law looks set to be passed into legislature tonight, with a whopping 7:1 ratio of for:against. However, many experts predict that even if the law is passed, the Empire of Neo-Urallia will ignore it anyway (or just operate in secret without telling anyone, which is what they do anyway). Many believe that the DROOP will be powerless to prevent such an event occuring.

  • New Cyberia in Economic 'Boom', claim Experts

Economic experts continue to predict good things for the New Cyberian economy, fueled by happy citizens and huge investment in cities such as Reeding and New Bedwyn. Advertisements encouraging multinationals have been published throughout the Region of PEEL, and even in the PEEL Colonial Territories, by the New Cyberian government, citing low corporation tax (compensated by an extremely high income tax) and a comparatively unregulated regimen as reasons to move to New Cyberia.

High military spending is also a key factor, as the revamp of the NCDF continues unabated. However, this topic has proved controversial as the XS-001 fighter continues to be delayed, with nary a glimpse of the CASDEC's primary vehicle. Some speculate that the Space Law treaty may be causing problems at CAS, as the XS-001 was originally envisaged as a joint air/space fighter.

Sargus Telecomunications News

Space Treaty passes into DROOP law
The treaty that has been fought for by the Sargusian government has finaly passed into international law. Facing critisism about the ability for the international community to implement the laws the prime minister announced that any nation foolish enough to deliberatly break the laws faced harsh reprocusions. She refused to comment directly about Neo-Urallia, the only nation to vote directly against the treaty, who many beleve may be developing weapons of mass destruction. Sources close to the government did suggest however that the government is worried about the situation in Neo Urallia, however it's lack of strong allies means that it would be incredibly unlikely for it to attack any other nation at this time.

Nerdor's Economy Booms, UN status improves
Officials laud increased government spending, publication of industries
With ever increasing demand in both the agricultural and industrial sectors by the nation's booming population and the federal government, Nerdor's economy is on the rise.  This boom, according to economists with the National Economic Regulatory Directory, coincides with the redistribution of wealth under Chairman Nor's Progresseice Communal Policy.  The efficacy of these policies has caused the United Nations to change our classification to "Father Knows Best State," from the previous "Corrupot Dictatorship."  Wait...I'm receiving new information.  Yes.  Apparently, we've always been a Father Knows Best State.  Anyone who says otherwise will be executed.

Citizen Soldiery Now the Norm
Military service now a part of public education
Yesterday, the Directory added a year's service in the People's Defense Force to the nation's public education system.  On an unrelated topic, 12 years of public education are now absolutely mandatory for all government positions.  On another unrelated note, 98% of the nation's employed population now works for the government.

Space Bureau Announces Project VERNE
New launch system will save billions
The National Directory of Scientific Advancement has announced a radical new spacecraft launch system, dubbed VERNE.  VERNE, or Vertical Electromagnetic Radical Nonmoving Engine, is based on the design of smaller rail guns used for military purposes by other nations.  The Space Bureau is seeking to appropriate funds for the Defense budget to pay for the massive undertaking, which will cost an estimated 7.5 Billion $CU to construct and power.  However, the long run costs, engineers and policy-makers agree, would be drastically lower than the current system of disposable chemical boosters.

EDIT/Update: Project VERNE has been delayed indefinitely based on the realization that that kind of acceleration over a quarter of a mile launcher would squish any carbon-based lifeform to a puddle, and tear most spacecraft to shreds.  My bad.

"It's time we set this out in the open, to hear the pros and cons from both sides of the argument."
