If that goal he scored against Tenerife was intentional then I gotta say he is an idiot and I would be pissed if I was his manager because its an extremely low percentage shot, a simple cross might be more boring but its more effective 99.9% of the time.

Final day of the season, Arsenal take forth, Spurs take fifth, knew it was coming.  When all is said and done, it's our best league season for ages, and I would've taken European Football at the beginning of the season.

Been nice to have a Spurs team to be proud of again.  No hard feelings about Arsenal pipping us to forth, and they should go on and win the Champions League now.

Good luck to 'em.

You're taking it well.  I thought you might be pissed about the Premier League forcing the Spurs-WHU game to go ahead despite half your team coming down with food poisoning.

The thing is any normal person would see that it's unfair to play the game because spurs are clearly at a disadvatage. The premier league handled it well though becasue it would have been a very contraversal decision to prospone it and in the end spurs did have enough (wether they be poor or not) players to play the game - I do feel sorry for spurs however but it would have been worse if they'd have finished 4th and Arsenal would have gone on to beat barcelona (I use past tense when I shouldn't). The funny thing is why were spurs staying in a hotel when both teams are based in London. In fact most teams travel down on a coach the same day as the match no matter what the ditance is between the two grounds! Speaking of great goals I found this on youtube. I think it's brilliant and much better than any of roberto carlos' goals!

HAS TO BE THE GREATEST EVER GOAL;

That is a fantastic finish!

Anyhoo, I'm not bitter about the Spurs game, because I was not expecting Spurs to win at West Ham anyway.

Moving on:

England Squad for the World Cup:

Provisional squad:
Robinson (Tottenham), James (Manchester City), Green (Norwich); G Neville (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Carragher (Liverpool), Bridge (Chelsea), Beckham (Real Madrid), Carrick (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jenas (Tottenham), Downing (Middlesbrough), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Owen (Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Walcott (Arsenal).

Standby:
Carson (Liverpool), Young (Charlton), Reo-Coker (West Ham), Defoe (Tottenham), Johnson (Crystal Palace).

Good news for Aaron Lennon, but no Defoe!  Theo Walcott, who's never started for Arsenal, and enough with Owen Hargreaves already, he's bloody crap.

I don't know what Sven's thinking.  Just four recognised strikers, of which Owen's just recovered from injury, Rooney'll be recovering while the tournament's taking place, and Walcott hasn't played a single game at anything like the required level.

On the whole the selection just seems too experimental for a World Cup squad, particularly for one of the favourites.

I definately don't understand it.  Also, what's with Peter Crouch?  We're taking two crocks, a baby and a beanpole.  Seems to me that Sven doesn't give a shit so he's picking anybody.

What about James Beattie, Jermaine Defoe, Marcus  (or is it Darren) Bent?

I bet Shaun Wright-Philips is thinking how great that move to Chelsea was.  If he'd stayed at Man City, he'd be on his way to Germany,

I dunno about Wright-Philips, and I don't think any of Beattie or either Bent was going to make the squad.  But I'm seriously surprised that Defoe isn't in it.  Although you never know, if Rooney is definitely ruled out before the tournament starts, Sven still has a chance to juggle his squad.

The problem is SVEN can experiment because he's leaving after the world cup anyway. I just cant believe that defoe int in there and we're only taking 4 strikers. It's bizarre and why do we need 3 keepers again? I just don't see what walcott has over all the other strikers available. I'm glad he's been bold and picked aaron lennon tho. Hopefully that will pay off.

Pace, Walcott has explosive pace, bringing him on in the last 20 minutes could terrorise tired defences at least thats the theory.
I think its a no win situation for Sven, people will always criticize him no matter who he picked, if he went with the expected squad people would say he is boring and not willing to take risks.

I'm the first to stand up and say pace is ONE of the most vital assests a player can have but if we're taking him soley on tht then we might as well take jason gardener and teach him to kick a ball. I'm not sayin' walcotts crap by any means but I'm jus sayin' tht he's only proved at championship level. Bent has been bangin' them in for charlton and is proven a premiership level (as is Beattie and defoe). Both defoe and bent may be a shade (and I mean a shade) slower than walcott but their other qualities such as experience, shooting, dribbling and in bent's case heading should out-weigh the promising but raw talents of walcott. It's a gamble but I think it's jus a gamble for the sake of it.

Good day for soccer yesterday, both the FA Cup Final and the Scottish Cup Final could've produced upsets.

Fantastic for Gretna, they were playing in English Non-League four years ago, now they're playing in Europe next season.  And could have lifted the Scottish Cup, but the Jam Tarts won on penalties.

As for West Ham, poor luck, but they fell foul to a Steven Gerrard special (why can't we build the England team around Gerrard? The guy is a collossus!)

Great games both, full of drama.  Excellent advert for the British game when other European Leagues are floudering (Juventus take the Italian title under a cloud of match-fixing allogations today, their entire Board resigned this week.)

HAHA........an incident. The FA cup was the best I've seen in my short 15 years and I agree West Ham were unlucky. Gerrards second was incredible - as soon as it came rolling out to him I knew it was in. I reckon he's easily our best and quickest player and one of our best chances of winning the world cup. I just can't believe that ball fell to harewood - the only player on the pitch who was physically unable to put it in! Can't wait til' Wednesday - will be great even though I think Barcelona will win. Just a note as well for Jon Paul Mcgovern who lead our promotion last season has been released by the owls - damn Sturrock!

Barcelona 2 -1 Arsenal

A valiant effort particularly with only 10 men after Lehman was sent off early on. The turning point for me was taking fabregas off. Although Flamini is a decent player I don't think it was the right time to bring him on. It was a poor decision one which I think ultimately cost them the game. Nothing to be ashamed of however losing to 12 men.

Anyone sick of hearing about how the ref was supposedly biased toward Barcelona?

Let's start with the sending off.  The red card wasn't harsh in the slightest.  Lehamnn practically grabbed the Barca guy's leg.  And Arsenal are lucky the ref didn't play the advantage, otherwise Arsenal would've been 1-0 down there and then.

Then there's Arsenal's goal from the free kick.  Did someone say 'dive'?  Finally there was Barca's first goal.  Okay, that was touch and go, but if you take FIFA's interpretation literally (you know, that 'daylight' crap), then the guy was technically onside.  The best kind of onside.

I thought the result was a fair one.  Maybe Henry decided not to go to Barcelona because his future team-mates kicked the shit out of him for 90 minutes.

Those are all valid points but they don't lead to me being right.

I agree the sending off was fair and the freekick for the first goal was a dive but all the other 50:50 decisions went barca's way. I mean look a henry's booking, he won the ball with a great tackle and then got booked for being kicked! I suppose he wasn't the worst I've seen but you expect the best for the European final.

What are you, gay?

Anywho I disagree with a couple of Mels predickions,
Ecuador will beat Costa Rica, I doubt England will beat Paraguay by 2 goals I predick a draw, Sweden are an overrated pile of wank, we beat them 3-0 so I think England will finally end their crap record against the Swedes and win that game.
Anywho my moneys is on Argentina their group is hard almost as hard as my penis is right now but I think along with Brazil they are the best 2 teams.
I also got a smaller bet on the Czecks, 40-1 was too godd to resist.

Entertaining game but Germanys defense is useless, don't think they will get past the quarters, England have got a very lucky draw, easy group, will probably play Poland in the 2nd Round and Germany in the quarters so they really should at least get to the Semi's if they don't choke.

Anyone bother watching the opening cermony?

I do think World Cup needs its own thread.

-Like Olympics it is but once an Olympiad
-Consists of every free nation on Earth vying for sports biggest title. (and a few non-free, Brazil I'm looking at you)
-Each game of the series draws in attendance rivaling the Superbowl.
-There is a game every day during the series.

Nix!  Please re-open+move world cup thread!
