America has the highest death rate from its country men shooting fellow country men. So the big question; do you think guns are bad and should they be banned in America a they are in countries like England, why do so many people shoot each other?

P.s

Please close this thread if its been done before but i cant find the seach button.

I think they should be banned, but can you imagine them trying to do that? It would be impossible...

The search buttom has been removed, hopefully it will return in the not to distant future though.

More people are getting shot in the UK since the ban on hand guns was introduced than before. Making them illegal just made them a bigger status symbol for criminals.

Wow, a new gun thread!

Most Americans (60%) who use guns in crime are criminals before they pull the trigger.  I say ban criminals.

Thank you also for making the gun/penis connection right off the bat.  I know I love my penises.  From my little .22 penis to my big, handheld .45 penises (I have three), penises are great.

The flaw with that is that they're criminals. While guns remain, they'll just steal the guns anyway...

I might go out and buy a gun and maybe even shoot something, but I'm too lazy, and I'm listening to some good tunes instead.

Maybe I can go out shooting things with my penis?

The pro-gun lobby happily points at Switzerland, with its low crime and mandatory gun ownership.

Yep, if you were to rob someone, why would you rob someone who you KNOW also owns a gun.

There are several reasons why a ban on guns in America will never work:
1) Second amendment. It would be way too hard to try and change that.
2) Too many pro-gun organizations out there and that will definatly stop any process to repeal the second amendment.
3) Logic. A lot of things in America are illegal, but people can still get them easily. Now, if someone who has a gun wants to break into my house, I can't defend myself. Whereas before I could.
4) Even if the second amendment were repealed, how would get EVERY SINGLE gun away from gun owners? Would you go into every person's home and search it for weapons? Of course not. It would be a huge strain on the police deptartments and it would be way too expensive.

There should be more weapons shaped like girly genetalia.  :o

Seriously though.  I hate it when people shoot people, but let's face it, whether they ban guns or not people are still going to shoot people.  The world is doomed.  It's hopeless.  :(

poor, hopeless Mango.

The world is doomed because some people have got tubes that can fire small metallic projectiles? Yeah, that's a nice analagy. Countries have atomic arms (or WMDs) as well, but no, that won't cause the apocalypse...  :nono:

I'm sure Mango meant it metaphorically...okay, maybe she didn't - I don't know. But I do see her point. Basically the world is doomed since humans still come with that design flaw that states that some of them will just insist on killing each other and other living creatures in this planet regardless. Guns are exactly the same as atomic arms or WMDs - they are designed to kill other things. If you really want something to hang over your mantelpiece, get a painting.
Also, the arguement to keep guns to defend people is exactly the same arguement as having nuke programs. The only difference is that nukes can kill more people in one shot - but it's just like multiplying the man with a gun to a country-sized scale.

Eh, maybe I was exaggerating when I said the world is doomed.  But a world where people shoot people is still a pretty sad place.  :(

I think we'd all be fine with just boards with nails in them... but gun ownership is okay, too.

If I'm not mistaken, is the ACLU pro-gun control? That would seem at odds with the Bill of Rights...

Guns don't kill people; bullets do. Let's ban bullets. Or, as Chris Rock suggested, make each bullet cost $5000. That way, people would think twice before shooting somebody, and there would be no "innocent bystanders".

If you make each bullet cost $5000, the end result is a black market in cheap bullets.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people.  Let's ban people.  Better yet, turn the gun lovers into Soylent Green and solve world hunger!  Who's for a nice Dubya Newburg?

If you wanted to do something with a gun (kill, rob) you'll do the same with a huge knife or a shiv. Guns are more convinet (sp) and easier to conceal. Otherwise, i'd use a knife. People will find a way to accomplish their goals, regardless of what the government says.

yes people could still use knifes or shivs or whatever, but it's a lot easier to run from a knife then a spray of bullets. A guy with a knife could not highjack my car, but a guy with a gun sure could.

Just so long as you could run away.  I was reading about a string of robberies of pregnant women, but the idea applies to any of us non-sprinter types.  If I can't get away from a situaton (and the most important element of self-defense is avoision) I am going to fight.  There are those who say that my money isn't worth more than my life, but there is more at stake than the measly amounts of cash in my wallet.  To grab my ankles for the very lowest scum this world has to offer is to sacrifice not only my own dignity and self-respect, it is to surrender, by proxy, the notion that people are strong, self-sufficient individuals who do not rely on the government for their protection.  It is to offer as fact that human decency cannot triumph over human failing.

At any rate, gun legislation has a few fatal (no pun intended) flaws.  Guns should be banned because people are generally bad and can't be trusted, but people will obey the laws because they are generally good and can be trusted.

Guns are only handy if you plan to shoot someone, other than that they're pretty boring.

Some people collect stamps, some collect guns.

I had a gun once.  I bought it for kitsch and seeing as how handguns are very hard to come by here in Canada, I traded it for a guitar worth ten times what that piece of shit S&W was worth.

Talk about beating your swords into plowshares.

I still think I can inflict more fear and suffering on the gereral population with a guitar than a gun.

To each their own and all that.  I see no harm in owning a gun per se.  But itching to bust a cap in someones ass, especially under the guise of "Justice" is a fucking farce.  Jocks with sticks...yay thats what we need more of.

That's because every single citizen is militarily trained between the ages of 18 and 26. So you'd expect them to be a little more careful and more adept with their guns.

Also, you don't want a vigilante force taking over. That almost always leads to wanton force. I've seen gruesome examples in some South American villages, in countries where there's 1 policeman for every 5,000 people.

Yes! I am a male feminist, so I think everything that's phallic shaped should also come in girly genitalia shapes. I'm not just talking about guns, either. I want vagina-shaped pens and pencils, and vagina space shuttles! Cutlery would be pretty useless, but it would still be pretty awesome to have.

Did the person you traded it to, immediately rob you at gunpoint to get their guitar back? That would have been awesome.

i think guns shoudldn't be banned.

if guns were banned, ONLY criminals would have them. i think it would be better if some people who weren't criminals could had them, so that in an encounter with a criminal, they could defend themselves.

The price of freedom has always been risk. I'll risk the bad to keep my freedom. It's funny how some would willingly cede their rights to the government in the name of "safety". Many of these same folks are the ones out there screaming about the alleged loss of freedoms from the Patriot Act. Hypocrisy me thinks. If you don't want a gun...don't buy one. But don't trample the constitution on your way towards tyranny.

I never liked that term "armed", to me it just means "I have arms".
Whose idea was it to use that word for that purpose?

Shouldn't it be "weaponed"?
As in: "I'm weaponed to the teeth, try your worst!!"

And you can't use the term 'phallic' for female genitalia!!
But female genitalia weapons would allow for greater ordanance, so I'm for 'em!!
