I'm not sure what the score is with new test threads at the moment, and seeing as there isn't one to ask in, here's a new one  :) I thought I'd test everyone's patience to see if it's allowed yet, or not?

In it's defence, this thread truly is a 'Test' thread, because I'm testing to see if it stays open or not  :p

I admire the optimism.

I think it'd be nice for this to stay open, as an ambiguous subject thread is pretty good, and useful.  However, I don't think the ban is lifted quite yet.

Heh. Matrix.

I think it's a nice time for a test thread... after all, less than 100 posts until I'm a Liquid Emperor, where else do I show off my new rank?   :p

I agree, there should be a test thread. Just for talking about stuff in general that doesn't deserve its own thread. I always liked the test threads, they were fun and I miss them  :)

Test threads will stay so long as they are used as Mellvar suggested above that they are used as an ambiguous subject thread. Not as an excuse for one-liners.

And there are some very bad offenders here, aswell as some people who always try and put thought into every post they write.

Anyway I was pro-test thread ban before and I've not been convinced the other way when they disintegrated into spam last time, thus I'm still pro-ban.

I never liked the one-liner posts either.  "Test" thread is such a misnomer now anyways.

I still want to see a revolutionary concept idea and do away with the word Test altogether.

How about "Try it out, baby!!"

@LAN.Gnome: Show me where I sais *all* one-liners were spam? My distant and rapidly senile becoming mind remembers the test threads though as people posting rubbish page after page with an occasional post that someone might be interested in interspersed.

In relation to the above, I was responding to the fact that Melllvar was saying that there are large age gaps between him and many of his friend,s giving myself as an example. But on look back that was probably too obscure for everyone to understand except for me and him, falling into the level of spam. But it beats "Go banana" any day, or the fast becoming Hitler incarnate post of "^ This is spam". You don't say, hypocrite?

I support the idea of test threads, but this thread's gone off with a bad start. The thread was originally redeemed for topics not thread-worthy, not for spam and one-liners.

[RANT]
Sorry to sound like a mod, but there are far too many one-liners already. For example, catindisguise, you've not made any contributions to the thread thus far, and yet have moaned at others for spamming.
[/RANT]

This is a personal gripe (thus the [/RANT] above), but i've always found HSJ to be in the grey area of spamming and being funny.

Why does this thread remind me of a bus ride with a disgruntled driver?

~~~~~~~~~~
Driver: "Hey, you kids, shut up or we'll turn around and go right back to the school!"
*one kid in the back of the bus screams*
Everyone else: "SHUT UP!! SHH! SHH! SHH! SHH!"
Driver: "Fine, I guess you guys haven't learned your lesson!" *turns bus around*
Good to see a PEEL institution back in full swing, but hopefully the spam will be kept to a minimum, and also the accusing-of-spamming.
I mean, HJS is a spammer, but she complains about spam too. Both kinds of posts are spam. Same deal with PCC Fred, although he posts thoughtful and insightful stuff once every 100 posts. Aslate and Margie act as though they are mods (if they ever BECOME mods their post counts will drop rapidly and no thread will stay open for longer than five minutes). Archie is clearly a hypocrite. LAN.gnome is a sarcastic version of Jeremy, minus the insanity, who is a version of Fishy minus the pie fetish and the looks that could turn a chap's head. Melllvar and Otis are trying to remain objective and failing miserably. All the exisitng Mods are to blame for the current TEST situation fro failing to moderate the increasingly unmoderate-able test threads, and I can't be arsed with this.
^ Read that paragraph. I have no gripe with any of the above, I just find it to be indicative of the self-repeating cycle that Marge has outlined previously. If I've confused your username with the personality traits of another, I heartily apoplogise - but it served to illustrate the point. Now, I'm going to go back to #futuramachat. [hint]It's like a test thread in real time.[/hint]
That sounds a little extreme...
Just so this doesn't become a one-liner and pitchfork-wielding posters don't get on me and drive this thread into oblivion, I'll add that the only bad posts are the ones that don't stay on the thread topic. Anything not following that IS spam. I'd say putdown posts are as well, but what's a debate without some putdown, huh?    :p
EDIT: Shit, I'm contradicting myself by making this post, aren't I?
It was meant to be extreme, and you're right. Putdown can be spam. It depends how effective they are, the spirit in which they are delivered, and the number of times you repeat yourself. To make a long answer shorter, just say it once every hundred million years, and it's not spamming. Oh, and putting people down in context, whilst not spam, seems to gain you a reputation as a n00b-hater. Just ask Ben (the little darling).
The thread should be more than a discussion about the quality of posts in the thread and the nature of the thread, if it isn't about something else fairly soon it will get closed.
Unless, of course, that is the prevailing topic. I mean, in a Test thread, all topics are meant to be fair game. Just delete the offending posts, Mr. Moderator.
