Mine too:

An avatar of myself I did for no reason. Who knows? Maybe I'll use it someday.

The scan:

I thought it might be cool to "cartoon-ify" a picture of myself, so I traced over a photo in Illustrator with a calligraphic pencil, purposely doing a rough job of it as a style thing. I think it's cool.

You look like the unfortunate security officer in Star Trek TOS that beams down to a hostile planet with a couple of series regulars, and always ends up horribly killed.

And the scan, for such people as care about these sorts of things:

Had to turn/crop the scan quite a bit to make it a sharp avy, including cutting out little Bender. It turned out alright.

EDIT: TOTPD Dance -- CRAZY BENDER GOLF SWING STYLE!

I love both of them.        they relly cute. I love one as my custme avatar but I kepping the Bendless Love one,

How can I make the background of the avy transparent?

It depends on what program you're using to make it. In Paint, I think you can set it in "Attributes" (if it's a .gif).

I'm using a linux program called:
The Gimp.
I don't think many people here know that.

Regardless of how much you and me and Linux advocates everywhere would like to believe otherwise, The Gimp is NOT a viable alternative to Adobe Photoshop or even Paint Shop Pro. If you want to work with graphics, grab a Windoze box or a Mac, or at least a copy of WINE if you can get Photoshop to work with it. Grin and bear it.

I have adobe photoshop, how can I make a avy with that?

First you need to make a scan. There's a guide for how to make scans at The Fry Hole:  http://thefryhole.no-ip.com/tutorials.php

It's for Paint Shop Pro, but you can use the same technique with Photoshop.

Afterwards, you make sure the background is transparent (shown as checkered), then resize it to 64x64 and use "Save for Web" and save it as a GIF.

There's also a scan for Adobe Illustrator if you prefer using that, available at CGEF...feel free to experiment.

Just thought I'd add a a link to the guide.

Personally, I use Photoshop 7 with bezier curves to trace the framegrab. After seeing the guide at CGEF, I think I maybe should give Illustrator a try, since it wouldn't be much different and I can always move stuff between to two applications.

@Hil:
Just give it a try and see how it goes. You can always ask us for advice.

You're welcome, Hil.

The discussion in the "Cell" thread inspired me to do this new avy. It's a Fry with his all Rush mix tape and bottle of Shasta:

The original scan:

EDIT: Scan too dark, made it brighter.

Awesome scan Mercapto, even if a little dark. And nice thread name. I almost mis-read it as "Amy-holics Anonymous".

@Mercapto: The avy is not 64 x 64 pixels; right now it's only 64 x 60. Also, you might want to lighten Fry's skin & hair color, he's a little dark.

I forgot to resize the canvas size on my avy, that's fixed now. I also adjusted the brilliance and contrast levels.

@Mercapto: Oh, shoot, I planned on doing one of Bender in his camping out fit too later! Nice job on it, though. Oh well, I'll still do one anyway.

The one I finished just now is this:

Add to Pool

And the full scan:

I like the expression on Leela's face in this scene a lot. It works great as an avatar because it looks like she's trying not to read your horrible posts.  :)

I just avy-fied one of my old scans. I really like the shadows in this one:

Add to pool

Original scan:

I originally intended to do this as a wallpaper, but I got frustrated with the intricate details in the background and put on hiatus. If you want, you can watch the full-size scan here. The file itself is 320 kB, but the image is beyond huge and will swallow 90 MB of RAM if you open it, so consider yourselves warned.  :p
