PNGs are too big. You're dealing with 64x64 pixel images - they do not need to be high quality. A 256-color or even 16-color gif will do just fine. Size is important.

@chickuaua: avatars have to be 64x64, and to be in the pool have to be Futurama related. You can however set a non-Futurama one as your personal avy.

Not very good, I know, but having to reduce everything to a 64x64 pixel image is a real pain in the ass. It's just too damn small  :(
