this is the new concert thread. tell us about the concert's you've been to (preferably concerts you've just been to), how they were, who played and if you recommend other peelers to go see the band(s) too.

i'll start: i saw sparta yesterday. and they were really awesome. the sound was almost perfect, the atmosphere was really good and it was mosh-pit-heaven.
the only downside was that they only played ~1 hour, but i understand that as they don't have that much material yet (only 1 album). but they jammed a bit too so you got to hear new versions of songs.

i highly recommend everybody who likes good rock to go see them just because their music is awesome, they can play (just look at the drummer. aw my god.) and you see they're having fun.

and maybe they'll sing hot in here by nelly too (they did here, although only for like 10 seconds and without instruments. but it was funny nevertheless).

It's gettin' hot in herre, so take of all your clothes <-- dumbest words ever. They don't even rhyme. Hate to rain on this thread, but I think this would be better off in Jukebox. Mods decision though.

Hehe, the only band Ive been to see, Bowling for Soup, did the same SS, they had a little medlay of tacky songs including "its getting hot in here." Again it was pretty funny.

Not too keen on the title, as soon as I saw it I though "I'm closing this; we have an illness thread"  :p

I've not been to any concerts, a few bands I'd not heard of played at college, I can't remember their names though  :hmpf:

I'm seeing FOO FIGHTERS in January!!!!!!!!   :D   :D   :D

I think I missed out for the Pearl Jam tickets last week though.

A Big Day Out ticket is my usual Christmas Present, so that's gonna be awesome in itself (where Foo are playing again teehee)

I haven't seen them live since 1998 when I was in Canada (And I was drinking so I don't really remember much in the first place)

Well the tickets were over AUS$70.00 so yeah a bit pricey but I think worth it. They're an awesome band!

The best concert I've been to was the Oasis one in manchester I went to in september.... amazing, Richard Ashcroft was there aswell and was brilliant, i'd have paid another £35 just to see him, 'Electric soft parade' were okay but there songs weren't really big enough to fill such a big concert and 'soundtrack of our lives' were crap, infact most of us found our selves shouting "who ate all the pies, you fat bastard" at the frontman.

One down side was that i got there at 1 O'clock so I could get to the front.... but Oasis didn't come on till 9:30 and they finished at 12, so I was stood up for like 11 hours, but it was definitely worth it because it was like a home coming concert, they played all the greats, like 'Supersonic' and 'Live Forever' aswell as a fantastic version of 'My Generation'. Anyone who gets the chance to see them should, It's very hard to get tickets.

Go see the Foo Fighters, I've seen them four times and the last time (headlining Leeds Festival) was the best.

I couldn't possibly pick out the best single gig I've been to so here are the highlights:

Pink Floyd, London Docklands '89
U2 Popmart, Leeds Roundhay Park '97
Metallica, National Bowl, Milton Keynes '93
Rush, Sheffield Arena '92
Rammstein, Manchester Apollo 2002
Rocket From The Crypt, Glastonbury Festival '98
Prodigy, V97 Festival, '97
Depeche Mode, Crystal Palace, London '93
Guns 'N' Roses, Leeds Festival 2002
System Of A Down, Leeds Festival 2001
Queens Of The Stone Age, Leeds Festival 2000/2001
Black Box Recorder, Leeds Festival 2000
Foo Fighters, Leeds Festival 2002
'A', Leeds Metro University 2002

There are more, but I can't think of any at the moment.  My full list is here - I haven't added the last one yet (Fugazi).

OK, I'm going to post this again  :)  Sorry about the last thread that I started, I didn't see this one.  Wow, this thread is old...

Yesterday night, I saw Dashboard Confessional in concert at the Webster in Hartford, CT. It was the best show ever, besides the fact that DC is one of my favorite bands. I was at a good spot too, only 6 rows away or people lengths away from the stage (no seats). The first band really sucked, Vertigo 86. It was like an angry guy who swore alot and yelled with an acoustic guitar  Anyway, the next band, Count the Stars, was really good. They brought alot of energy into the crowd. Me and other peeps were all moshing to it, it was pretty cool and they had some people crowd-surfing, which is always good. Suprisingly, security did not care because everyone there were signs that said "no moshing, crowd-surfing or stage diving." I crowd-surfed during DC and I got right infront of Chris Carrabba and it was so awesome. He actually smiled and laughed a bit, so that made me all glad and everything. It was so awesome like the energy and everything.

I saw Dashboard Confessional when they toured with Weezer, the lazy-and-injured-so-they-had-to-cancel,-those-fuckers, Strokes, and Sparta (first time I heard Sparta, too). Personally, I was completely underwhelmed by them, and surprised by the huge reaction he got. I admit, I never heard a DC song before that concert, but I really didn't see what the big deal was.

My friend who gets free tickets is debating on whether to go to Metallica/Linkin Park/Limp Shitstink/Deftones or Lollapallooza 03 (QotSA, Cave-In, Jurassic 5, Jane's Addiction, Burning Brides, etc...) You would think the choice would be obvious. However, he's still a big Linkin Park fan. Ugh.

I saw and old prog band called Saga a couple of months ago which was one of the best gigs I've ever been to in m life! They were supported by a  more recent band called A.C.T. who just blew them away completely, and impressed me so much I actually bought an album from the merchandise stand (something I don't normally do seeing as I'm a poor student/stingy git). Considering they only had about six square feet to play in they put on an energetic and exciting show. The best part, when the singer jumped off stage during an instrumental to say hi and give everyone a handshake. And I even got my CD signed after the show. Superb  :D

And welcome to PEEL Sarah!

I've seen DC on the Vagrant tour with STD and Alk3.  DC, while not without talent, did very much suck.  Never before did I want so much to punch someone in the gut and say get over it.

STD was alright, definitely going down hill though, and Alk3 was a good show as always.

Going to see the Weakerthan's tonight, ought to be good.

Welcome to PEEL Sarah!
Prepare to be hit on by me in good time.

This thread has made me realise just how long it has been since I went to a concert. That's what you get for having sucky friends. Except thw two Mels of course - they're awesome. Last "concert" was Saturday at Reading Festival 2002 - so the last concert I saw would've been Foo Fighters, although they had a hard time following Muse who were simply unbelievable.

I saw the Foo Fighters at the sommersault festival in Berry, Ontario some time ago, not that impressive.  A Perfect Circle was better, so was Our Lady Peace.  Didn't stay for the smashing pumpkins, started to rain, and I'm not that big a fan.

Archie:  I'm used to it, hehe.

Strat:  I like the Smashing Pumpkins..it's so much better than the spin-off of it, Zwan.

I always wanted to see Marilyn Manson on tour, but he never comes to CT for solo concerts and I don't want to spend $80 on stupid Ozzfest tickets.

I agree, Zwan's about as bottom rung as they come, though Paz did leave APC for Zwan.. which in my mind is about as lame a decision as they come.

Didn't Maynard knock APC on the head because they were becoming bigger than Tool, especially in the states where Tool aren't as big as they are in Europe?

Ah, memories.  We're not far from the Leeds/Reading festival, and I'm gonna be at Leeds for the forth year running, and looking forward to the mighty 'Tallica.

Brings me back to my first Leeds Festival in 2000 and the infamous appearance (in the place of Eminem, who'd been grounded in the US for pistol-whipping the dude who was shagging his wife) of Daphne & Celeste.

Placed on the bill between 'A', Blink 182, Rage Against The Machine and Slipknot, they were bound to tank big-style.  But, I don't they expected the insessent hail of bottles, cans, and bags of frozen peas(?!) to come hurtling through the air at them.

Give 'em their due, they lasted their three-song set, and it was one of the most exilerating live experiences I've ever had - and not because what was going on on-stage.

God, I love festivals!

! indeed.

Yeah, I bet Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and Mick Jagger are turning in their graves right about now.  ;)

One difference between the above and Robbie Williams, is all "great British Artists" at least crack America - and put it this way, he will never recoup £85million by staying in Europe.

At the end of the day, he should be lauded for pulling off a 375,000 audience over three days.

But it's just a gig, nothing special, Oasis' gigs at Knebworth are forgotten now, as are Pink Floyd's, Genesis' and Led Zeppelin's.

The logistical nightmare leaving thousands stranded on the A1, meant that instead of playing three Knebworth's, he should've played five Cardiff's or Milton Keynes' - at least given the audience a chance to see him (in the flesh).

The only reason Knebworth was chosen was ego.  Plain and simple.

Here is a review I wrote of the Coldplay concert I went to last month.

Coldplay - Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, Australia. 18-7-2003.
I went in to Rod Laver Arena with high expectations, knowing the concert was a sellout and I would be sharing the experience with ten thousand other fans. Not only was this the first time I was going to see Coldplay live, but it was also my first rock concert of any kind. I arrived at the arena and hour and and half before the concert start, quite unnesessary considering I had a seat and wasn't in general admission, but I was so pumped and excited I couldn't wait any longer.

Support band Betchadupa came onto stage with hardly anyone there, and I was wondering where all the people were. My question was answered however as by the end of Betchadupa's short show, the floor was packed. The atmosphere was upbeat with the all ten thousand people wanting only one thing. Coldplay. Brian Eno's dramatic music started playing over the speaker system, and we all knew it was time. Time to rock.

The stage lit up with flashing lights and the crowd exploded. Coldplay were on, and Chris was going nuts on the piano, as he does so well. Politik started the show and was one of the highlights for me. At the end of the song I was lost for words. I never imagined it would be so good. Then a few more tunes from A Rush Of Blood To The Head were banged out, followed by a few from Parachutes. I was only awoken from my initial stunned state when the stage all of a sudden turned yellow. The crowd rose and the next five or so minutes I will not forget for some time. Singing Yellow with Chris and the boys was one of the best experiences of my whole life.

Before long they were off for the first time, but not before singing What A Wonderful World with modified lyrics: 'We don't like rain, and we don't like thunder, but we love to play in concerts down under'. This was another highlight of the show, and certainly the crowd thought so too. Then they were gone, but I knew not for long. The arena was soon lit up with a string on green light as Clocks brought Coldplay back onto the stage. The second big sing along was then played, In My Place, which was also amazing. They then went off the stage again after playing Amsterdam. And this time I thought they were off for good.

We cheered and cheered, but I was sure they wouldn't be coming back. I never knew of a band doing two encores, and I couldn't think of any hits they hadn't played, so I thought that was it. Then to my and the rest of the audiences delight, the boys were back. I have never cheered so loud in my life. It took me by suprise and I was overjoyed. My night ended on a high and I couldn't sleep that night, all I wanted to do was listen to Coldplay. The night was one of the happiest of my life for sure, and I couldn't have imagined the show to be any better.

They're showing the video for Inertiatic ESP on Kerrang at the moment, and they have a different bass player.

I'm definately making time to see them at Leeds Festival (in a tent, with around 1000 others, probably) as I can't to stop listening to the album at the moment.

That frees me up to see Hundred Reasons or Lagwagon.  I saw The White Stripes last year, and I'm ashamed to say they were awful, but since then the new albums come out and I kinda like what I've heard of it.

I'm not a big fan of The Music, but I may swing by, if Metallica finishes early.  I'm definately catching The Darkness, Hell Is For Heroes and Electric Six (possibly Interpol if I don't fancy seeing Placebo for the forth time).
