I was watching BBS again today, and something hit me that I never really thought of before...maybe I'm just perverted as I doubt that this is what Matt and the gang had in mind...Okay Leelu the Narwhal (sp) is meant to be a parrallel to Leela...And Fry and Leelu obviously developed a close bond...but does anyone else wonder "close" that bond was?? I'm trying to avoid using the term "beasteality" here, but there does seem to be undertones..Okay obviously they couldn't have been THAT close...But I wonder why a whale? Why even an animal? Why couldn't Fry have met a 21st century woman who resembles Leela, with purple hair and an eye patch over one eye.... In my defense, I'm a psychology major, I'm trained to read too far into things lol

Some feller up in the "will futurama be more dirtier?" topic seemed sure one of the aquarium scenes was way over the line (huh?). Maybe you can lure him into a couch session. Not sure since Fry has lived in the 31st Century for several years, where relationships like Amy + Kif, among many others are considered normal, what would be considered a beast and what is just another acceptable species? Some things I pondered were: 1. Does Leela know Fry is good with animals - at least getting them to eat. 2. How would she react if and when she finds out she was replaced by a whale as a love intrest.

So you're asking if Fry had sex with a narwhal? No, no he didn't. quote: But I wonder why a whale? Why even an animal?
Because with an animal he can come to the realization that she's better off with one of her own kind, and that if he truly cares for her he should want her to be happy even if she's not with him. Then he can apply that lesson to his situation with Leela. If it was a woman instead of an animal, he'd never get past the first step, because why shouldn't she be better off with him than with someone else? He'd never learn the lesson. ------------------ Speak softly. Drive a Sherman tank.

That's another thing...doesn't that kind of cancel out the lesson...since as soon as Fry comes to that realization he learns that HE is in fact the one Leela is better off with? (I guess this *technically* applies to both Frys)

No, because the Fry who comes to that realization is the time duplicate, and when he learns that time duplicates are doomed to be eliminated, he decides that Leela would be better off with the Fry that isn't doomed. The other Fry never learned the lesson, unless he learned from the duplicate's example.

The Original Fry did learn I think when he saw the pain in Leela's eyes at the party so he arranged for the meeting at applied cryongenics "I want what makes you happy, not what makes me happy", then he soon finds out Lars is his duplicate, making a HIM the one that makes her happy..it's the same lesson in a paradoxical sorta way.

Hmm... You're right. He did come to the same realization, and he didn't need to spend twelve years with a whale to do it.Too bad the universe was destroyed right after that.

That's really one of the two main points of BBS.1) Leela realizes that Fry is "the only man I'll ever love." 2) Fry isn't as dumb as he seems he's just immature but he's improving because he learns in a few weeks what it took Lars twelve years to learn.
