Look at what I found in a DXC interview:
"How long after the last “series finale” does the new season take place? And what can we expect for the Fry and Leela relationship?

COHEN: When our story resumes, two long years have passed. As for the Fry/Leela relationship, we will be visiting that subject right away, so I refuse to tell you where it will lead on the grounds that I want you to buy the DVD."

I wonder if they will be married or engaged or something...? I hope they aren't. Fry is cool as a single guy. LOL...anyways, what are your thoughts?

I hope they won't make it that Fry/Leela already had a relationship then broke up and now Fry's trying to get Leela back or something...

I think what makes it so good is that he never 'really' wins leela - you can tell they like each other but it is though it is not ment to be  :( I think it would make Futurama crud if Fry and Leela got married, engaged or even properly together. I do want them to get together but it seems sweeter that they never do ...

also - coldangel1 & fryandlemon - love the pics - wish i could draw that good!

Yeah, that concern has been kicking around. The general consensus has been that we would like to see what's gone on in those intervening years. It'll probably get covered by flashbacks.
Personally I think Fry will have done something stupid and they'll have broken up shortly after the opera, so he'll be back once more at square one.

Maybe the characters will never age like in the Simpsons.

Even so, it's a gap.
Futurama has much more continuity than The Simpsons... and the characters actually grow and change, so there is a greater sense of time.

And in the interveiw with DXC he said there is going to be more continuity in the new eps!

But that means that if Futurama becomes a long lived show the characters will change both physically and mentally!
As far as im concerned, thats not a good thing.
Unless it involves Fry-Leela shippiness of course.

Zoidberg deserves a shipper thread damnitt!!

Change is inevitible in all things. To resist change is to resist the flow of the Universe, and that leads to death in one way or another.

Hi, I'm new here, just got into Futurama about a week ago (but I've already bought & watched all of the episodes). Just concerning Fry and Leela growing closer in season 4, I think a big part was the ending of "The Why of Fry." Before then, Leela seemed to have an ideal of who the perfect man would be (foremost someone with power and importance. Her date that night made her realize that her standards were faulty, and allowed her to start to accept Fry. From then on, she struggles with her growing feelings for him until TDHAIPL.

Now, in TDHAIPL, I think a big question is whether Fry's holophoner work actually made her see something new in him, or provided her an excuse to let down more of her barriers against him. I'd like to think it's the second, but the first is just as probable given "Parasites Lost." As for where they go from there in the DVDs, I think they might be together, but probably will have dated, broken up, and slowly come to getting back together, but that's just speculation.

Hope that wasn't off topic and sorry it was so long, I just needed to get that off my chest.

Watching TEN News tonight; there was a story on Nuclear Power and the roport showed a montage of household power uses. One of the visuals was a couple of kids watching Futurama.

Welcome Sine Wave.

No post here is too long. And it wasn't off topic either. We sorta go through a huge range of topics as long as we keep bringing it back to Shippy every so often. And your post was about Shippy anyway so it was very much on topic.

Just rewatched Farnsworth Parabox through TDHAIP, and I think it's fairly plausible they started dating after Farnsworth Parabox. Nothing serious, but it seems like they are, especially in 300 Big Boys. I know it's probably not what the writers intended, but it makes me happy thinking about it.

Yeah, my theory was that he wanted to show how much he loved her so they would move up from just a few dates to something alot more serious, with their love being more mutual than 99% fry and 1% Leela, but like I said, it's just a crackpot theory pulled out Fry and Leela's "date" plans at the end of Farnsworth parabox and 2 scenes from 300 Big boys, and almost definately wrong.

When you are regarding scenes in 300 Big boys, do you mean them going to the 'sea-world' like place together? If so then it could be a date. maybe? But i think as it is such a big continuous story line then the writeres would need to make a few references to it. I can't think of  why this fact would be hidden?

That scene and at Elzars that night, it looks sort of like a double-date with Amy & kiff and Fry & Leela. I know it's hidden, which is why it's probably not anything at all.

I don't think they were dating, because of these quotes:
Fry: I know I should but I just can't. Remember when I had those stomach worms that made me smart? I could play the holophonor and it made Leela like me.

Fry: That could be my beautiful soul sitting naked on her couch if I could just learn to play this stupid thing

Fry: At last! At last I have the power to make Leela love me.

Leela: Oh, Fry. All this time you've had this incredible gift and I never knew. I've been a fool.

In all of Fry's quotes he says that he could be with Leela or he could make her love him. If they'd been going out he wouldn't say that. In Leela's quote, she says shes been a fool, meaning she hasn't been out with Fry and she was a fool for it. At least, thats my take on things.

Regardless of weather they were technically 'dating' (something Leela was obviously reluctant to admit), it can't be denied that they were very much closer than ever before. The apparent double-date in 300 big boys is indicative. Leela wouldn't have called it a date, but that's basically what it was.

Funny that. 300 big Boys had the most stroies ever crammed into an episode but they didnt have a Fry-Leela vaguely shippy story.
Instead they had Kif-Amy and Prof.-The Queen of Sea Cows.

But then again they probably didnt have them because it was really close to the big shippy episode, TDHAIPT

I thought TDHAIPT was one of the least shippy of the shippish eps. The sting and Time keeps on slipping were much much nicer!

Well, for TDHAIP all of the events in the episode are driven by the ship, as opposed to the other episodes where it's brought up either alongside or because of other events. Also it's the one where it seems like they finally hook up. I admit it's not my favorite either, but I think it is the most ship-centric.

They do look like double dates don't they?   :p

Well at least we know they hang out together outside of work.  Also, in the fire, Leela is the first one Fry goes to save.

For TDHAIPT I really liked the ending, but the rest of the episode was okay.  My favorite shippy episode, well favorite episode over all, is the one where Fry gets the worms.  Perfect blend of comedy and shippyness.  TKOS had a really nice bittersweet ending too.
