It would indeed. Or maybe being a teen just wiped off a bit of her rationality. I know I have no rationality whatsoever, and I'm in the prime of my life.  :D

Trust me on this.

Okay as a newbie I hope I'm not dragging up worn out discussions BUT

how do people think this new movie will deal with the Fry/Leela angle? I heard there's a rumour that the movie will be Bender heavy so I thought maybe they're going to avoid focussing on the F/L interplay too much as a way of putting it off, but they won't be able to get away with that for long. And if they're making 4 movies I'm assuming they won't want F/L to get together too quickly in case fans lose interest. It'll be difficult for them to put off the resolution until the very end especially if CC decides to buy more episodes.

Hmmm the possibilities are bewildering   :hmpf:

Welcome Stezzy!
I dunnu about Leela and Fry getting together quickly due to a lack of interest. About half the PEELers heer watch the show for humor, not shippiness. And the rest of us enjoy basking in the near-misses, that, while infuriating, please us to no end.
Maybe at the end of the movie, but almost certainly not at the beginning or 'quickly'.

Sorry just want to touch on the previous ep mentioned;

 :p

It was said somewhere that Fry/Leela ship fans will not be dissapointed. The episodes have been gradually getting more and more shippier so hopefully we will get some lovin action.

Stezzy. Someone from 'ain't it cool news' says they have read the script, and they have this to say about Fry/Leela interplay within the first of the movies (tentitively titled - 'Bender's Big Score'):

"Fry / Leela fans have plenty to chew on, and if that romance has ever elicited a tear or two, well, grab a hanky, it may do so again."

Oh wow that sounds good, although is that for real as I was under the impression the new movie script was under top security? They haven't done a good job of covering up the details if so, unless they're teasing us with info tidbits I suppose.

Thanks for the welcome Kitkat - and I have to say I feel the same as you - I love all the F/L romance/near misses and I wouldnt want to see them together too quick, as long as they DID reach that point eventually though! I'm still puzzled by how they will make it last all the seasons though. I wouldn't stop watching if they did get together as the F/L romance wasn't the reason I started watching it in the first place, but I think it would take away an important element of the show, unless it's handled right of course!

In any case, after Devil's Hands I doubt they'd just drop the angle altogether. Even if they don't touch on it in the first film, there will be three more to follow.

Maz - she was about to start licking him.

Unknown - I went through puberty when I was 8, so I was shaving, smoking cigars, and making passes at the young female teachers while my peers were still playing with toy trucks in the sandbox.

Cold_Angel, she was NUTS. She was delirious. She could have done anything... well, almost. But I agree that licking him would have been a bit too much. What I enjoyed so much in the Sting (my fav ep) is the candid JOY that Leela displays every time she meets Fry - of, course, in addition to the RELIEF that she has not killed him.. The joy expresses her subconsciuos LOVE of him; her relief, the GUILT for being responsible for his death (by bringing the friggin' bee in the ship - duh - see below)

My dilemma - and this is a topic for the Deep Down Thread - is: how much guilt and how much love ??? She is in a coma, but it is IMPORTANT. I guess a lot of 'shippers' ask themselves: does Leela love Fry ? A Little, a Lot ? But is there really little and lot in love ?

Also may I mention that Leela bringing in the bee was totally against her rational and crew-protecting nature. They could have found a better reason for the bee to be in the ship! But I don't care much for the reason, really

@ Various, regarding basking in the Fry / Leela near misses:
you people write as if Fry & Leela getting together would estinguish all the 'fizz' (don't like the word but I am lazy now) of their blooming relationship.

NewsFlash: THERE IS LIFE AFTER STARTING A SERIOUS RELATIONSHIP! THERE IS LIFE AFTER GETITNG MARRIED! People, believe me, it may even get better ! Or more exciting, if need ed to entertain those millions of eyes watching you through that glass screen you always wondered what was for (Ok, here's the clue: it was a metaphor for Fry & Leela being watched by us - lame huh)

Sorry for shouting. but have some faith, people! But  be aware: once you get into something really serious (you'll know that sooner / later), watch your sanity.

I argee re: Leela's responses to Fry in her Sting dreamstate. Since it was her own mind conjouring those scenes (aided by Fry's continued presence at her bedside) the romantic tone of each encounter had to have come from her, and she wasn't put off at all by the intimacy like she would normally be whilst awake [would Leela normally let Fry touch her, let alone dance with her?]. That's why I love The Sting so much - what we get to see, albeit in an abstract and hallucinogenic manner, is Leela's own deep-rooted desires. She may have claimed that her own imagination had never been that romantic to her before, but perhaps because she'd never allowed it to - in a comatose state all the barriers are down and all bets are off.

As for guilt vs love... Her relief at him being alive each time seemed transient. She would quickly just become happy to be with him. Toward the end she said she's only happy when she's asleep and, her words: "with you". That wasn't about her not wanting his blood on her hands, she genuinely wanted to be with him.

We know he loves her and she loves him, he knows that he loves her but he doesn't know she loves him, and she just doesn't know anything, that or she can't accept it.

Ah, she knows that she knows that she knows that she loves him, but she thinks that she knows that expressing that love would be a monumental risk; exposing her soft emotional underbelly and threatening to destroy a friendship that means the world to her (Fry seems to be her only real friend).

Fry's nice?

Professor: "You all know the orphanarium where Leela grew up?"
Fry: "Sure. We talk about it all the time."
Leela: "Really!?"
Fry: "Nooo! Burn!"

Not nice. Arsehole. But funny.

But a cartoon character can take ANYTHING.
Look at Daffy Duck - shot in the face at point-blank range with a high-powered shotgun. No effect.
Cartoon characters are immortal demigods.

But Futurama characters are molded by the actions in the episodes. If Leela doesn't see whats right in front of her it'll dissappear

It would work quite well if it went that way in the new movies/episodes. Realistically Fry could give up all hope if Leela didn't respond to the opera. Maybe that's how the writers will play it to drag it out a big longer. Otherwise I can't see how they will be able to drag it out until the very end without it looking unrealistic. Especially if MG gets his way and has another 4 or 5 seasons.

It'd be a nifty turnaround if Fry gave up and lost all interest, then Leela realized her mistake and spent a few seasons chasing HIM around.

That would be really funny, but as frustrating as hell for us viewers. Talk about torment.

Yes Fry would have to reach his limit sooner or later I guess, but I think he must realise deep down that Leela has feelings for him, otherwise his behaviour wouldnt really be appropiate. I mean, if you love someone but you know they dont feel the same, you respect their feelings and eventually accept it isnt to be. I think Fry knows that Leela genuinely does have feelings
aand that's why he keeps on trying. He might well decide he's had enough if Leela still won't go out with him after the opera.

I think the rumours are that they're saving the "resolution" until the very end as getting them together too soon might cost them viwers. I don't know how true that is but it makes sense that they would want to keep the tension going as long as poss. It wil be hard if they make more seasons though.

Yes, apparently there's a final episode scripted to be inserted *whenever* they decide to finish the series, and that it has resolutions.
Dunno how true it is either. I'm not sure it's the kind of thing they'd willingly release to the public.
