In some episode where the Professer and Hermes are yelling at their kids Zoidberg walks in and says, "What's with all the noise?  Is this angry yelling, or busted hearing-aid yelling?"

The fact that Zoidberg used the noun "busted" in that context has always struck me as odd.  I can't quite put my finger on it.  It seems a bit too...hip/with it...for him to use that word.  It's too much of a colloqulism for him too be using, you know?

Okay, first of all, "busted" is an adjective, not a noun.

Second, since when is the use of the word "busted" considered "hip" or "with it"?

Lemme 'splain.  No wait, too long.  Lemme sum up:

Bender didn’t enslave his friends, they were already enslaved by the Osirans; he just took advantage of the situation afterward.  He made them his personal body servants, which meant that he knew nothing really terrible would happen to them; but he DOES love being in a position of power ( i.e., "War is the H-Word" ) and I don't think he could resist being able to lord it over them (he's kind of like a five-year-old that way - and who has ever met a five-year-old who they don’t think would go a little overboard if he/she became god-emperor of a planet for a while, hmmm?).  However, I have total faith that if Fry & Leela had ever been in REAL danger, he'd have changed his tune (a la "Fear of a Bot Planet" ) toot-sweet.

I think Bender's affection for his friends is plenty evident in “Pharaoh.”  He certainly couldn't bear to spend his "afterlife" without them; and their opinions matter so much that he was persuaded to blow up his monument - which would have let millions of people remember him for millions of years - by Leela and Fry pretending to forget him for two minutes.   


As for Bender brown-nosing and kissing ass...when HASN'T he kissed his idols' asses?  Elzar, the Harlem Globetrotters, Beck, Pharaoh...in each and every case, the subject of his unwavering sycophancy - whether they treat him like crap or not (the masochism).   

He only turned against Elzar when he found a new hero to emulate, and IMHO that is the key to his behavior: people who ARE something that Bender longs to BE earn his most abject, fawning adoration. To Bender, “hero worship” is a literal statement.

I'm surprised, though, that you didn't mention "Fear of a Bot Planet".  This is, of course, the first-season episode where Bender becomes a star on a totally-robotic planet because of his hatred toward all things human.  Yet he refuses to nix Leela and Fry with the ceremonial kill-a-ma-jig because Bender, despite his protests, actually likes his coworkers.  Or at least, he recognizes that they aren't anti-robot.

The Osiris episode simply expands on that.  Bender doesn't hate his coworkers.  (Except Zoidberg, obviously.)  He simply realizes that they are inferior beings.  Like the way humans feel toward dogs, or a gorilla to a kitten.

same here, brother. he just went overboard when he found out what he could do with all that power. but then, going overboard is just his nature. look at OF. he got a downgrade, then suddenly he wanted EVERYONE to convert to a less futuristic way of life. Thats just who he is programmed to be.

Back to the Kif disscussion... I came to this show on Cartton Network, so I watched them out o' order, (but I bought the DVD's so, no harm) but it seems to me that in LLLIS, Kif calling Zapp a jack@$$ is pretty inconsistent with the way he acts in other eps.

Although, he may have just been having a bad day, and/or was trying to apologize to Leela for Zapp's upcoming passes at her.

I dunno, any opinions on this matter?
