Out of all the PE crew who do you think is most likely to be gay and why?

I dunno.  They've all had pretty serious love interests/relationships with the opposite sex.  Amy's probably experimented, what with the whole collegiate/slut cliché they tend to tag her with.

Overall I'd have to say...Randy.

I actually went ahead and voted for Amy, but I want it noted that that's more of a "probably had a 2F1M threesome" than a "probably homosexual."

I think that Amy would have  had at les something along this line.

I agrre that Zapp definetly has some potencial in this area as we saw in war is the h-word. HE also seems to overcopentate a lot with regard to his sexual conquests of women which make me think he is hiding something (AKA The Todd in Scrubs   :))

Where are these figuares for Hermes coming from? he has a son and wife and I can not think  of a single time that made me think he was gay.

Professor is the most likely member to be gay, in the Anthology Of Interest (can't remember if it's 1 or 2) Bender got turned into a human and kissed the professor. Bender said "Nah it isn't the same" Professor said, "Speak for yourself"

Please. Professy is clearly a titan of heterosexual conquest, astride the world in his lyrca pants and enourmous feathered hat. What woman can withstand him?

Most gay? Er, um, er, Bender going female and falling for Calculon, and suiting the tutu so well as the Gender Bender slants the scale in his favour there.

Seriously, he can get it whenever he wants. Whether he's robbing the cradle, or helping to rekindle an old flame, Farnsworth is never wanting from some of that sweet, sweet, wimmin' action.

Zapp's attraction for a "man" in that episode was actually for Leela. Watch the thing again. He is worried by the fact that he seems to be attracted to this "man", and when he realises that she is in fact a woman, he is delighted that he has not somehow accidentally become gay.

Zapp compensates a lot because he gets very little. He's obviously comfortable with his sexuality, or he wouldn't be so casual about wearing a uniform which includes a velour miniskirt.

I think that Zapp is one of the most obviously heterosexual males in the show. You have to remember that Zapp isn't exactly the brightest star in the cosmos, bless 'im. He was attracted to Leela by all the same things that drew him to her originally, but without realising that it was her. Whilst he thought "Lee Lemon" was a man, he was disturbed by this, suggesting that he finds the idea of having a homosexual liason quite unsettling. People are just too eager to apply the "gay" label.

Or people are just stupid, and don't get jokes. I dunno. Just watch the episode again, and get it straight in your head.

Zapp is not gay.

Captain Zapp Brannigan is the greatest space hero who will ever live. How dare you bring unfounded slander against his name?

I weep for your intellectual decrepitude.

I am insulted, do you think that I am really such a lacking futurama fan as to know that it was Leela diguised as a man. However he still had the feeling when he though she was a man. You could try and pull the concept that he knew it was her all long but we all know that would be false. Yes he was disturbed by the idea of falling for a guy but he still would have let himself fall for Lee if he was a guy.

Oh great fan of the universe's greatest fraud, I beg of thee to let me be.

TNUK: I agree that WITHW is not compelling evidence for obvious reasons, but I submit to you:

"We are sure it's a woman this time, right?"
-Love's Labors Lost in Space

"Baby, wait!  You didn't show me your surprise!"
-To his obviously male transvestite date in Put Your Head on My Shoulder

And finally, his equally obviously male transvestite date in his brief appearance in The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings.

Now, I admit that this apparent interest in males could easily be a result of Zapp's idiocy rather than repressed homosexuality, but it should be considered.

NOR: I'm 100% convinced that it's meant to convey Zapp's idiocy. He's a complete turnip. Which is why he unwittingly ends up dating trannies. That, and it's funny.  :D

Turanga A: I'm too tired to tell you which particular point you're missing right now. Suffice it to say that I think it went right over your head and into somebody's back yard.

I'm leaving this thread well alone. Folks have the right to disagree with what I've said. However, they'll still be wrong to do so.

Why do people think Zapp's date in TDHAIP is a transvestite?!  She didn't have beard shadow like the other one, there was nothing obviously male about her (if it was a "she's a man" joke I'd expect a few more clues from the artists).

I thought she was just a bottom-of-the-barrel prostitute, old and skanky (kind of the "pro" version of Petunia).  The kind of hooker only a desperate moron would consider (go, big Zapper!    :laff: )

And I agree with TNUK - it's meant to show Zapp's real dumb.  Although he WAS willing to cross the line if he felt attraction for a guy, and that does make him a little bit bi, I believe most of us have a little bit of bi-ness in us (it's just been stomped deep underground by our cultural indoctrination).

I think with Zapp it's all about the libido.  He goes after whatever feels good, and doesn't worry about the psychological or cultural ramifications (though he'd make a sexful pun out of "ramifications" if he got half a chance....    :p ).

If they're not making out/kissing, then why is there any need to comment on it slipping through the censors? There are much more, ruder and less subtle things on futurama.

I think you can find _situational homosexuality_ moments for most of the characters named (and a few not), but none that are actually suggesting they're repressing gayness - even Zoidberg's winsome "Are you coming on to me?!... I'm not hearing a 'no-o-o...'" was more a product of his desparate and miserable loneliness

<said the grown man posting on a sci-fi tv show forum>

than actual gayness.

Plus, the point of all the occasional gay-bits for characters that I can think of were put in to be funny, not to shed light on a character.

edit:Aw, hell, _dammit_...now that I think about it, I don't remember any gay-bits for Leela or Amy at all. Bugger. How will I sleep etc. at night now...

Doen't the mere fact that he fancied someone who turned out to be a woman make a stronger argument for him not being gay?

Am I missing something?
The only instance of this I recall was in LLLiS, when Zapp remarked something to the effect of, “… We are sure she’s a woman this time?”

Exactly: That was the point of the joke - everyobody knew "she" was a drag queen:
Except Zapp.
If Zapp had known, his reaction (whatever it might have been) would've ruined a whole 'nother joke - namely the ambiguity of Zapp's sexual orientation.

That Zapp will- er... "do" anything isn't an issue. It is, however, the basis for a bunch of "Zapp's-so-dumb" jokes, and "would-he-or-wouldn't-he" jokes.
