What Futurama character do YOU think didn't get enough attention, enough love (from either the staff, or fans, or both), enough episodes?

I'd have to go with the Professor. He gets some hysterical lines and has great little idiosyncrasies, but there's a kind of subtlety about him and thus he tends to go overlooked when surrounded by "bigger" characters like Fry, Bender, Zoidberg and Zapp.

I'd go with Farnsworth.

I dont't really consider Zoidberg to be underrated at all, but I think Farnsworth is a little from looking at some of the Favourite Character polls.

Amy deserved more episodes and more depth.

I'll second third fourth Amy. She deserved one or two more episodes centered on her, instead of the buttload of Benderific eps we got in season 4.

Hermes is a bit underused as well, but as HHRHGB proved, there's a very good reason for that.

I wouldn't say Zapp's one of the "bigger" characters-- he doesn't get too much air time.  Not to mention the writers degrade him as the series progresses (it starts out with him just fat and lazy, but then he wears a girdle, he gets fired, he needs a toupee, he announces to the world his armpits need shaving or he has to go to the men's room or something related, he dates Petunia (or in PYHOMS, a man disguised as a woman)... the list just goes on).  So many people hate him, but he's just really misunderstood, especially by the writers and the fans.  And not to mention he's damn sexy! ^^

I was going to say something else, but going by the question John Panozzi asked to start the thread I have to say Amy. Maybe just one or two more episodes devoted her way but yeah, she should have had more.

My first answer was going to be Hermes, there is just more potential there untapped I felt. And I LOVED HHRHGB!!

Hermes only got one episode to himself[maybe one and a half].. He definitely should have gotten more than that. Come on, he's adorable.

By that I meant that his personality is, to put it in terms of color, louder than the Professie's.

Hermes! C'mon, I wanna see this guy as more than just a mine for Jamaican stereotype and bueracracy jokes...

Though I can understand you Amy lover's perspective, too. Neither of those character's got a plot where they stood on their own (well, Hermes had one, but it was regulated to the background for the most part...), they always shared the spotlight with either Fry, Kif, or Dwight. I'll let you guys figure out which goes with which.

I agree that Hermes was at least as underused as Amy was, but I can't say that I really care.  I've never found Hermes to be very interesting or funny.  I don't think that we really needed to see more of him.

I liked her episodes anyway.

I don't so much think that we needed more Amy episodes as I think that we needed to see more of her in the regular episodes.  "The Series has Landed" is a good example of how Amy should have been used.  Instead, in most of the non-Amy episodes, she only got a line or two.  In some episodes she doesn't have any lines.  Sometimes she doesn't appear at all.

I agree entirely that she should have just been used more in other episodes.

I believe I said that exact sentence a while back.

Also "see more of her" was supposed to be a pun. It was probably a bad one though!    :D

Hermes, no doubt about it. Anybody who can be both the laid back Jamacan, and an uptight Accountant and Bureaucrat has as much potential as a character as any of the main characters. Seasons 4-5 were brill, but one thing they got wrong was Hermes' character became thinner as the episode advanced along. The start of 'Bend Her' was good, though.

Amy comes second. She never got much depth of character the way that say, Leela did. They did a good job with what they showed, but it'd have helped to see more of what she got up to around the Planet Express office if nothing else, i mean, Farnsworth said she was mostly for her blood type, but he must have thought she was good for something else there, too. She is an engineering student after all.

Farnsworth had limited time on screen, but was as well characterised as any character, IMHO. I call him the fourth main character.

In fact, its hard to think of a badly thought-out character on futurama. Its cast is smaller than many shows, but it puts more into them than most live action, even. Characters have always been its great strength.

Zoidberg. I think that he needs more screen time. Not necessarily more depth, just more involvement in the missons from time to time.

Yeh, i agree. Zoidberg always seemed to be a way of letting the writers slip in an extra joke and he never got recognised as a main character in the sense that he only got 2 episodes to himself where he had a decent role. Dont get me wrong though, hes still hilarious.

I've seen many derogatory comments about Leela, which I really think is unnecessary. What's not to like? I'd say that little Helper robot in Godfellas, I think he should have made a return.

I don't agree with all this stuff about how characters should carry episodes all by themselves. The writers always focus on traits that are funny in moderation, but not for 22 full minutes (i.e. Bender's selfishness, Zoidy being generally pathetic, etc.). But Hermes is always underused. He's got all kinds of great quirks, but stays in the background for the most part. HHRHGB is one of my favorites, but in RoAE he was cancelled out by Cubert and Dwight, of course. I would also say Zoidberg, but it almost never works when he is the center of attention. That said, there are all kinds of possible combinations that would be terrific. Have Leela and Amy ever carried an episode together? The Professor and Bender? I would pay big money to see an ep in which Hermes and Zoidberg were forced to cooperate with each other for some reason.

I'd like to see a Hermes-based episode, Amy has had several episodes where she played a major part, Put Your Head on my Shoulder, the Amy-Kif relationship episodes. Whereas Hermes has only had one, and it didn't seem to be about him that much anyway.

Amy, definitely. I think she could've done with some more episodes (not related to her Kif relationship). They could've easily given her a few of the episodes they set aside for Bender. I think we could've lived without "Obsoletely Fabulous".

I think Hermes, like Zoidberg, works best in small doses. They don't need their own episodes. But maybe a combined Hermes-Zoidberg episode - like j_ohanley suggested - would work...

At this point, any new episode would be good...

Making an episode entirely about Scruffy would just molest the character, like they did with Nibbler.

I'm going to be an individual and say Mom. She has some classic lines... she cracks me up every time. My favorite line of hers is, "Make that bitch your bitch you bastard!" Who could NOT love that line?   :D
...but, it seems like I'm the only one here who gives her recognition.   :(

They kind of did that in Jurassic Bark when Amy and Leela were randomly seen wrestling at certain points during the episode. Hey, I wasn't complaining!  :flirt:
