I have to say that Fry and Leela are not very far apart in ages from what I assume. Many sources state that Fry's birthday is in early August of 1974, so he's 25 for the pilot episode. So, by the supposed end of the series (year 3004), he's 29 or 30. Issue 27, "Rotten to the Core", most likely took place in the year 3005. According to the Futurama Infosphere's synopsis on "Downsized!" (issue 29), both Fry and Leela were 30. I assumed that the story for that comic took place in the first-half of that year. My best guess is that in that comic, Leela just turned 30 and Fry is going on 31 soon. Unfortunately, the comics are most likely non-cannon, so...

The movies will be an interesting concept when it comes to aging. I'm sure most of the characters couldn't have changed too much, except for Cubert and Dwight, who will be around 15. It would sure be nice to see them more grown-up, as the two would have already passed puberty.

By the way, for those who are saying that Leela "claimed" her age in Love and Rocket and other episodes, sorry, it's wrong (I know, I sound strict). She "revealed" her age in Brannigan, Begin Again, during the scene where she takes command of her small crew again.

Fry's age is a bit confusing because he got frozen, so this is my theory (year 3004): his body age is 29, his main age is 1029. To get Fry's age you need to get the number in the middle of 1029 and 29.

Ahm... no.
It seems you’re trying to get some kind of ‘average’ age for Fry.
Though you may derive a number, it won’t really mean anything.
While he may be 1029 chronologically, were one to give him, say, a thorough physical exam his ‘apparent’ medical or biological age would be approximately 30.

But I agree with you: It is confusing!

Of course, given the events of "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles," the characters' biological ages could be anything at this point...

I think that episode is used as a retcon of sorts to give an explination for the Groening rule of ageing.

Leela: "I think I might be a few years younger."

This may just be a joke or it could kinda reset them back to their ages from the beginning of the show. Just a theory.

Next time you watch that scene, pay attention to Amy. Amy adds "Yeah. Me too!" followed by a swift wink of her eye. I always assumed that she winked because she thought the professor was listening (when they didn't realize he was stuck in mid-peril), and her comment would make the professor believe that too. Though that doesn't sound much like something that Amy would do for an old wacked-out man who doesn't want to be convinced that younger is better.

The episode also led me to wonder how old the Professor is now. He must be over 160-something, as he even directly pointed out immediately after checking his age. He's probably not that much older, and maybe only aged very little. Who knows...

Yes, that certainly will be interesting. Clones age, don't they? I'm not sure about that.
I hope that the main cast don't change in appearance or anything. I'm pretty sure they won't, but that's been a worry of mine ever since I heard about the aging thing.

Clones, for sure, age. This is obvious with Cubert. The professor has noted that during the earliest stages of his cloning, he accidentally left Cubert in his original tube so long, which resulted in his "pig" nose. So, obviously, he has grown to be a young teenager, with a birthday party (that nobody attended) to celebrate the milestone he has just hit in his life.

The main cast, at least in their appearances, has not changed, according to the cover of the comic book that will exclusive at Comic Con. I'm not surprised, but still relieved that the crew of Futurama didn't change their looks. Often, shows that have durastic changes in their characters in a very short amount of time "jump the shark".

I remember Cubert's birthday party. It was in the episode "Bender should not be on Television", I think he was turning 13.

I just saw the poster at the News thread. I'm glad, while I was pretty sure that the cast wouldn't change in appearances, but if they did, that would stink. I really hate when characters change their looks when there's a time jump.

Zapp's age is a true mystery. In one episode (I believe it was "A Flight to Remember" ), he said that Fry reminded him of himself at an unclear age, first saying that he was a younger him, than just by a few years younger, then an older him. Zapp doesn't look as if he is Fry and Leela's age. Though he might look sort of (not really) "young", he can't be if he wears a girdle to hide his monstrous belly. I think Zapp even wears a toupee, as hinted in "Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch" when the hole was blasted in the Nimbus.

How Mom had her three sons is a mystery that was never even briefly mentioned. For the most part, the chance of her carrying her sons is ruled out, unless if in the future it is possible for women to be pregnant at any age or if she is the oldest human to bear children. One possibility is that she had them before she became ancient like the Professor and froze them, though there is no reason why she would do that. A more reasonable explanation is having her sons through a surrogate mother. Whenever starting up her corporation, she might have saved some genetic material of hers, for example, eggs. There would be some reason to save something like that, though I'm not going into the detail. She might have allowed or required all or at least some of her employees to save their sperm in a bank for the reasons which again I will not go into detail about. The Professor (who is the number one candidate for being the father of the youngest son or all) or some other male(s) saved his/their sperm while working there. For some reason, she wanted to have a child/children/somebody to slap, and arranged for a surrogate mother/mothers to bear her offspring now that she was too old to handle a pregnancy.

The youngest that Zapp could be is late 30's to mid 40's. To be the captain of a Flagship requires political connections and age.

Only in wartime with massive casulaties can people climb into a command position at an early age.

So with Zapp's rank, male pattern baldness and girth, I'd put him at 40-45 years of age.

Quite a feat for him to bed a one-eyed babe 20 years younger than him...

(Yeah, I know, it was sympathy sex but probably the best that he ever had.)

If people routinely live past 100 in the Futurama universe, I suspect that someone in their 40's or 50's would still be considered a 'wet-behind-the-ears-kid' by their elders.

On FoxStore.com:
As Xmas 3007 approaches, the “Futurama” crew must fight to save Earth in an epic battle against nudist alien Internet scammers.

This confirms that the year in Futurama is now 3007, and by the second, third, and fourth movies, it will be 3008. So, that means that Fry is definitely 32, and Leela must be either close to turning 32 or already turned 32 in "Bender's Big Score".

We could say (loosely) that Cubert and Dwight were both thirteen by 3004. So, by 3008, they would be 17 (or older, considering that was just a loose estimation). Yet, according to what Officer 1BDI reports from the trailer she say at Comic Con, and what we can see in the comic book, they still look like they did when they were thirteen.

Fry and Leela could pull off being 32 (or 31 in Leela's case) easily, but I don't think that Cubert and Dwight could pull off being seventeen (or above) unless if they took special hormones which stunted(?) their growth. So that leaves a question for these movies: did the characters continue to age during the years they were off-air, or were they "cryonically frozen", so then they wouldn't have any change in their appearance, personal life, etc.?

And 'Brannigan, Begin Again' proves nothing about her age. Seriously. It doesn't.

Well, to be fair, I think we only say 5 seconds' worth of footage of the two. And I'm pretty sure they were sitting down for most of that time, so we never properly saw how tall they were. In terms of facial features, though, I thought they looked the same as they did when the show ended.

But it would not surprise me if they still looked 13 come movie time.

Thank you.

Although Leela couldn't be in her 30s if by Leela's Homeworld her birth had still occured only "20-something" years ago. I think she's very close to 30, though; she did always strike me as older than Fry.

I know Bender's comment doesn't mean anything about her age. He was just being himself.

On my first post (which should be on the top of this page), I guessed their ages with some evidence to back it up. I do realize that the writers originally wanted Leela to be 30 at the beginning of the series, but then they lowered it. From what I heard, I think they wanted her to be closer in age to Fry. If so, I always assumed that she was just slightly younger, though chances are just as equal (probably even greater looking at the opinions of other members) that she is older. I really don't know. According to the comic "Downsized", both her and Fry's age was 30, because everybody who is put up for recycle was 30 (according to the summaries on the comic). Of course, I do realize that the comics aren't canon(sp?), and might not keep the facts straight.

Talking about the comics, I was watching the videos uploaded by yomommazzzzz and saw Cubert on the last page in the last panel on the left side. He still looks like his thirteen-year-old self with the same height and face, even though we don't see very much of him. However, yet again, the comics are not canon, and this rule will most likely apply to this one as well. So, in the movies, he may not look like how he did in the comic book.

Well, in the Comic-Con book scenario everyone's been sort of frozen in time, so character aging would mess up the cable rerunning. However, since in the movie time has passed apparently I'd think that Cubert and Dwight would be older. 17 if they're technical about it.

I think Cohen and/or Groening have mentioned that the new work will acknowledge that time has passed and in fact the little Comic-Con comic does just that, although the new video they played shows no signs of aging in any of the characters.
Brought to you by HipNoJoe, Master of the Obvious.

BTW, I did catch an interview of one of the Simpsons execs on NPR in which he talked about that show dealing with topics that were more middle-age oriented as the producers themselves grew older. I'd be surprised if we don't see a bit of the same phenomenon in the new Futurama.

Yeah, way over 30, as earlyer mentioned in the topic, because of the freezedown he is technicaly over 1000.

And when he puts his finger in the Death Clock, i asume it gives somewhat of a bad result. Because bender takes dibs on his stereo.
I dont know how the deathclock shows, but if it showed years. it would have said that Fry had like (- 925) years left. Technicaly he is supposed to be dead.

Why? Because they went to an alternate Universe? So what? I went to an alternate Universe this morning to buy cigars - it didn't alter my age... just the age at which I'll likely die.

I think he means TMLH. I always thought of Leela as two or three years older than Fry; thus if he was 25 I considered her 27 or 28. This keeps her under 30 while at least providing some explanation for why she seems 20 years more mature than him. But I base this mostly on the fact that in SP3K she refers to Fry as a "kid", and on Bender's comment that they would need to hit a time warp if she didn't want to die at 25. Of course there are alternative explanations for those remarks.
As for Zapp, I'd put him at 37 or 38...maybe.

Biological age seems to be almost impossible to figure out.
We only can count the time passed sence they are born.
Year 3007 - (the year the person in question started exsisting) = age.

For example Benders head would be 3007 - 1000 + 1000 - 3003 = 4. So when he was back in Roswell, he was -1000 years young!

God im stating the obvious again :S Also i dont know what i wanted to go with this :S
