Woah! I made this thread ages ago! I guess I may as well say thanks to you all.
We've at least got a half-assed understanding of it now.

EDIT : And check out the TOTPBD on the newly polished floor.

Does it really matter if they age? Just about everyone on the show is an adult, it's not like ten years are supposed to have taken place and they're still kids.

Hey yeah. I mean the whole PE gang were stuck there in the fauntain thingy longer than everybody else and considering how fast the thing works, Leela may as well be younger by Fry by at least 3 years after that. "Hey i think i may be a few years younger!"

Actually, Leela was stated as "around 20" in "Leela´s homeworld".

She was born "20-something years ago", meaning she could be anything from 21-29 in "Leela's Homworld". Coupled with the line in "Brannigan Begin Again" I think she was 29 in "Leela's Homeworld".

Making her 27 during "Brannigan Begin Again" and 26 in SP3K. A bit young for a police/paramilitary officer, but not unbelieveably so.

In case some of you forgot, there was a major factor in "Teenage Mutant Leela Hurdles" that determines their ages. After they got older, they found that Leela and Amy got a little younger than their original ages and Fry and Bender got a little older than their original ages. Just wanted to remind y'all.

Where is that info regarding Fry and Bender from, Donbot? I don't remember anything about that in the episode. That, and I interpreted Amy's claim that she was younger as an excuse to lie about her age.
Regarding the Freedom Day question: Perhaps Freedom Day isn't an annual event... is anything said to that effect in A Taste of Freedom? (come to think of it, Nixon does say something about the past year... dang, there goes that theory...)

The Professor was 160 in A Clone of my Own and 161 at the start of Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles so they do age. As for 1 of the gang's point about Freedom Day, even if the characters don't age that episode was still set in 3003 while they have never changed the fact that Fry woke up on December 31st 2999 so that still gives four Freedom Days (In the same way that the Simpsons kids have experienced about 15 Halloweens despite the fact that the oldest one is only 10). I'm going to agree with Asylum-Fry's explanation for this one, either that or he just got so drunk he forgot about it.

I didn't think my thought was that convinving...

Well, you all realize that the Futurama writers aimed to throw off our judgement of aging with Time Keeps On Slippin' and Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles, right? After those, who can say HOW old they really are? The professor is older than 161, Leela's younger than 28, and we hadn't a clue as to some of the other characters' ages. It's meant to be a secret.

Yup, my two cents sure go a long way.

Here's how I pictured it:

Fry: 25
Leela: 24
Bender: 4
Prof. Farnsworth: 160
Hermes: 42
Zoidberg: 36
Amy: 20
Mom: 150
Mom's Sons: I'd say in their 30's sure don't act like it!

It doesn't matter if they age or not thoughout the episodes.

Anyway, this is what I think from the clues I have:

At the start of the series:
Fry- 24
Leela- 25
Bender (head): 1004
Bender (body): 4
Hermes- 42
Zoidberg- 35
Zapp-37-ish
Prof. Farnsworth: 160
Amy- 23

If you want to assume the show ages, which I think it does, add 3 to all their ages.

I doubt Mom's sons could possibly be in their 30's. Assuming that at least one is Farnsworth's child, they'd have to be at least (somewhere around) 70. Maybe they use stem cells.

I'd agree with M0le, and say Bender was just insulting Leela. She is more mature though and doesn't act 25 so maybe Bender thought she was older than 25 when she was 25.

Yes and no. I'd say Fry has gotten smarter over the years. He does less dumb things like deciding to swap his lungs for gills. He's still not that intelligent, but he is smarter IMO. Maybe because of loving Leela?

Hmm, the context of the scene makes it pretty clear that Leela is indeed lying about her age, and where as Fry is too polite to correct her, Bender throws it right in her face.

Additional evidence: In TMLH when Leela say she might be a couple of years younger (and this time I'm sure she telling the truth) Amy think she's lying, but chimes in and wink at her. So at least Amy think Leela make herself seem younger like most women (present company excluded, ofcourse).

I don't think the characters age, except when necessary... you know, the only character who they've really had age chronologically is the professor, because it was significant for the episode that he should age. I'd think the characters won't age over time... but, unfortunately, the show won't run for another decade, we really don't get to find out.

...by the way, you can't figure out what state the Simpsons live in, since it's now (more)impossible to be anywhere. They'd said the town of West Springfield is three times the size of Texas.

...finally, first post here. Nice to be a member.

Welcome to PEEL MR. MastodonFarm!

I have a little to say... already said it in the Zoidberg's age thread but what the hell. It's the closest thing I come to rational deduction.

You'd think that Zoidberg's people grow up rapidly - theoretically a large proportion of Decapod 10 died at the end of WMIBACIL? (2ACV05) But there was still a sizeable invasion force in A Taste of Freedom (4ACV05) if there were enough of them to enslave humanity; some of those Decapodians must have come from the mating season we saw in season two.
However, in A Fishful of Dollars (1ACV06), when it is revealed that the Decapodians are responsible for the extinction of the anchovy, Zoidberg goes nuts when he smells them on the pizza ("That stench, that heavenly stench!" ), implying that he knows what they smell like - he must have had anchovies before. Now, I don't remember the exact date, but I think it's the 2200s that the Professor states as the time the anchovy became extinct. So how old does that make Zoidberg....?

Or alternatively, he just really likes the smell. He never says he remembers it or anything so maybe there's just something about it which sets decapodians off like that (explaining why they fished them to extinction shortly after arriving on Earth).
