In the DVD commentaries to "Space Pilot 3000" David asked Greg Vanzo (co-supervising animator/director) and Rich Moore (co-supervising director and co-director of SP3K) if they encountered any problems when they had to draw a one-eyed character. At first it was difficult, but they used cheats like the angle-thingy and the hair. In fact they hoped Leela would never get a new hairstyle. Later it's become a great deal easier. But I digress. Although it was nice to see Leela truely and utterly happy, the two-eyes thing was the main problem I had with Cyberhouse, it just didn't look good. I love the cycloptic look. That's the real Leela. Lrrr: "Attention Turanga Leela. Your two-eye thoughts scares us. You stole our hearts as a cycloptic alien babe, and so shall your remain!! Or else..."

We're more used to her with just the one eye. She should keep it though!

Let's once more go back to the audio commentaries on the DVD (I love that thing ): Matt at one time said, that he felt any good cartoon character is one that's easy recognizable in silhuet. That's why Bender has "Little Bender", Fry his "hair-forks" and Leela the ponytail. In that sense the ponytail is Leela's trademark, since the eye wont be visible in silhuet. But otherwise her cycloptic nature is one of the first things people associate with her. That, the ponytail and her willingness to use brute force. I know I do.

Originally posted by Venus: theres nothing wrong with exotic color hair, i have green in my hair, my friend has pink and it looks fine. You need to get a picture for your "PEEL personnel publication" If coloured hair works for Leela no reason is shouldn't work for real people, so long as it is done well.

Leela: "Nobody makes fun of my nose!!" Actually the animators wanted to make her nose even smaller, more like Amy's, who by the way, doesn't look weird with 2 eyes. I think it's just because we're accostumed to her cycloptic nature, and really that's the only true Leela. I always thought of the purple hair as part of her alien-ness. [starts to rant] I always like that purple ponytail. I noticed, watching the DVD's, that in the early episodes the hair flowed a lot. When Leela turned her head, it fluttered and moved much like a real ponytail. In the newer ones, it's much more rigid and motionless, as if she used waay to much hair spray. I much prefered the earlier, fluttering hair. Probably a pain in the **** to animate, but damn did it look cute. [suddenly looks up, realizes everybody is staring at him, stops weaving]
