Yes, I am very annoyed too... the network does have rules that apply to IRC Operators and Netadmins, but I find that those rules are not enforced if the person is a netadmin. During my on and off time as an IRC Operator on OECK, I felt I was walking on eggshells. I eventually was glined for a day after dealing with someone in a channel (other than #fc btw) who was breaking the channel rules (flooding, and being abusive). There were no active channel operators at the time, so I kicked on the grounds of "annoying other users/irc operators", which is a rule stated in the OubliNET charter, and the whackpack/irc.fa.gs MOTD, which is displayed to the person on connectin to the server (I happen to know this because this channel has a java applet that connects to irc.fa.gs). quote: i'm sick of owen being basicly channel founder and kicking people out without good reason.
I too have been victim to this, and actually went away for a little while, but I saw no reason fit why Owen, and other IRC Operators on Oublinet (whom for the sake of argument remain nameless, but they know who they are, lets just say) should give me ****, and prevent me from talking to my buddies on IRC. quote: i talked with owen about it and it actually reminded me scene from last futurama episode when Robot-Devil showed Leela what she signed. so we're on network where IRCop can do anything and we cant do anything about it because it's network rules and being on this network we agree with network rules.
Yes, I agree. quote: i know slimmy is not very interested in moving because owen gave him IRCop status, but think about that slimmy: you're depending on him.
Yes, I noticed that too... its unlikely that they will move while Owen has bribed Slimmy. quote: what network i want #fc to move
Just a suggestion, can we make to somewhere were none of the members have IRC Operator status maybe? This would stop things like this happening again... StuartB has set up a channel on Blitzed... It's got a bot that is fairly good too. As far as I know, StuartB isn't an IRCop there, so if you want to come visit: server: irc.blitzed.org channel: #fc

While I too think and thought for a while that a network move is in order, I'd ask not to promote "rival channels" like Stuart's there. That'll only favour splits which the channel couldn't really survive (Futurama being over and such). On networks: Should be a medium sized one with chanserv and not full of warez and such if possible.

okay, i found a possible network. irc.euirc.net it's a medium-sized network, it offers chanserv, nickserv. a friend of mine has been there for the past 1.5 years and told that they've never run into one abusing admin. seems like a nice place - but so far, i only had a first glance at it. what do you think?------------------

Well, Blitzed has chanserv, nickserv and memoserv, a good selection of servers across the globe, and a freely usable java applet. Seems pretty stable as well. How bout that?

Praise be. It's finally happened. Owen is and always was an idiot - and he was slowly disintegrating the chatroom. Finally we're out of that nonsense and I can't help but cheer. To the people who worked for the move, thank you, sincerely.

yeah but now we're on a new place where owen has no power. so now we officially moved. new network name is EuIRC (europe irc network) official website. some people have problems with connecting/changing nicks, so if you do try irc.ham.de.euirc.net server or any of 8 network servers. servers list: irc.vie.at.euirc.net irc.ber.de.euirc.net irc.ffm.de.euirc.net irc.ham.de.euirc.net (looks like the best server so far)
central.euirc.net irc.kie.de.euirc.net irc.hes.de.euirc.net irc.bas.ch.euirc.net
i dont think we have java applet set up yet, but one on network website looks sasssy. other FAQ.... NickServ and nicknames. it's a pretty big network so many nicks are registered. if you join and after minute NickServ (network service that helps you to register nickname) changed your nick to guest34958340[...] choose another nick because this nick is already registered. to register nick- /msg NickServ register password e-mail if you dont like that NickServ changes your nick to guest, you can turn option kill off. your nick will be still registered. if you registered your nick and somebody uses it, type /msg NickServ ghost nick password. i guess that's all questions about nicks and NickServ. channel modes and list. if you will type /list you will see all (3000+) network channels. due to bots joining channel we set +s mode. +s mode means that channel is secret (invisible on channels list) user list. * - founder/co-founder ! - protected operator @ - operator % - half-operator + - voice signs next to the nick in user list mean user-mode. since this network have new signs i posted it. if you have any other questions about IRC/#fc feel free to IM/PM me. ------------------ </post> [This message has been edited by Margarita (edited 08-22-2003).]

half-operator is like operator (he can kick, ban and change topic) but he can't kick operators. (that's the only difference i can think of...). we dont have official h-ops so dont worry about it. quote:

The major difference between half-op and regular op is that half-ops cannot set many channel modes, and they only serve as means of minimal moderation (kicking, banning, etc). The only mode that I can think of that half-ops are allowed to set is +m (moderated) which makes sense because the only umode they can give somebody is +v (voice).

It depends on the IRC client your using, but there should be a dialog labelled Options, or Servers, or Connect.. or somesuch, where you can put the server details in.What client are you using? mIRC seems to be windows only... Heres a link to a whole bunch of mac IRC clients

ok i'm on it. alright. IRC FAQ for newbs, part 1. (by Margarita) Basic commands./server servername - will make you join server. example: /server irc.vie.at.euirc.net /join #channel. - will make you join a certain channel. example: /join #futuramachat /part #channel - will make you leave a channel but you'll be still on a network. example: /part #futuramachat /quit - will make you leave a network /nick newnick - this command will change your nickname. if you're going to be away and you want to show that you're away - this command is useful. example: /nick M5|sewing /me - will show your message as an action. if you want to tell anyone what are you doing right now - this command is useful example: /me is writing an IRC faq it will look like * Margarita|IRCfaq is writing an IRC faq example in a channel: <Margarita> i'm writing an IRC faq (just test) * Margarita is writing an IRC faq (action text) /action - see '/me' /mode - /mode will set channel and user modes. /mode #channel mode i dont think you'll need it, but i'll show example anyway /mode #futuramachat +m /msg NickServ - NickServ is network service that helps you do stuff with nicknames (like registration). too see all NickServ commands you should type /msg NickServ help /msg ChanServ - ChanServ is another network service that helps you do stuff with channels. to see all commands - /msg ChanServ help /msg MemoServ - network service that helps you leave a message to someone who has registered nick and who's offline right now. /msg MemoServ help - for help /msg nick or /query nick - if you want to cyber with someone or just talk in private that commands are useful. (double-click on nick works too). /query will open a new window, /msg wont. /notice - will make a notice.
channel - everyone on this channel will see your notice user - only user will see your notice. /notice #futuramachat test /notice Margarita test---- sorry if i missed something. love, Marg. ------------------ </post> [This message has been edited by Margarita (edited 08-25-2003).]
