Just a little reminder:

A signature
  • should not take more than 120 pixels of height total.
  • should not take more than 12 to 15kb.
  • should not use heavy animation. Only use very subtile if at all.
  • anything but a 2-line signature should only appear once per page maximum.

If you plan on having a long term graphic sig, you can send it to me for hosting locally on peel.

and what happens if people don't abide by these rules, mArc?

moderators can mail and ask them to change or edit the sig out here and there with that request. If that wont help, mail me and ask me to change it

can I have my bue and green dudes hosted locally please? I don't think I'll change them for a while, and I only use them once in a while, except when somebody starts whining about them.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

And what does happen? If the rules are not met, are these "people" assimilated into the PEEL collective, and given a text based variation of "compare your posts to mine and themn kill yourselves" or are they let off with a fluffy rabbit and a stay in Wankers room?

The thing with heavily animated sigs is that they distract people while reading.

At the moment there is no "no sig for you" setting for this forum, but a "no graphics in sigs at all" and "no sigs at all" one. I don't want to go there though and I don't think I need to either. We are all pretty nice about these things i think.

Whew, good thing I've been using my sig less often recently. Thanks for the reminder mArc.

So what constitutes excessive animation in sigs? I do ones where the eyes blink or something, but would a sig like totalnerduk's be the upper limit in terms of animation? Just for future reference when I make more sigs.   :)

cellery, YOU have the best sigs ever.  small, clever, well made and classy.  I wouldn't sweat it if i were you.

To comply with mArc's lastest request, my newest and non-Drool worthy signurature block is below.

I'll try and only put one per page, but at times it's hard to judge where a page is gonna end.

I think that the animation on cellerys sigs is great, I don't mind a bit of subtle, clever animation. What does annoy me is the Blue Dude, as I have said before, I hate it.

I don't really mind Blue Dude, or Green Dude, so long as he is only posted a couple of times a day and not more than once on a single page.

My ass sig is only 679 bytes, but I have a tendancy to post it a fair bit. Do you want to host it localy of leave it as it is?

The ass falls within the 2-liners I'd guess. It hardly makes posts bigger.
I can host it locally for different reasons maybe.
One thing why is that in case the server the images is hosted on goes authrozied access like the smoovenet server went for leandro and for someone else before, it keeps popping up access message boxes. With normal pictures that's not too bad as it's only one thing to change for moderators. With sigs, it's all over the board.
Also, graphics hosted on peel make sure that they are cached, not all other servers do.
Maybe I can write a sig upload script over the weekend.

That's all I'll ever do, unless you bitch about him.  :p

I'm searching for a new, small sig now, since the perky little chap seems to get on everyones tits so much.

Hmmm, maybe I'll return to the little hourglass. I seem to remeber fooling a couple of people with the line "signature loading"

OK: Blue and Green Dudes have their last ever performance here.

Go little guys, go!

In case my signature shows up now, the upload function is working. Please use it instead of hosting your sig elsewhere for the reasons told above.

Uploading can be done in your profile

Is there a way to have an 'Add Signature' button on the quick post tab. I almost always use that feature and only use the full reply page for quoting sometimes. That's why I never have a sig. But I'm kinda apathetic about the whole thing.

The reason why quickpost was introduced was to get rid of too frequent sig posting  ;) So ... nah

Nice feature, it makes this board even more progressive.
I take it that the sig uploader only store one sig per user, otherwise it could get a little clogged by people who change their sigs regularly.

Well, two per user max: one jpg and one gif.

It also checks the size of the picture (both dimension and file size) and restricts usage to within PEEL. So no, it's no general image hosting service  ;)

Am I the model sigger? I don't even think I have one...   :p
Sig never really struck my fancy. I don't like the blocks, but some people have sigs that are cool, like Velour's disclaimer.

Edit: Theres my sig. Where did that come from?

looking good kryten, but try gifs or pngs instead. that will prevent that pic from having these ugly artefacts. if you post a link to a raw version of this pic (psd or something similar) we could even make a contest like who makes the smallest pic with best quality...  :D

because the upload script wont take them :P

the real reason is that I'm not sure whether the library i use for checking the size of the image is capabable to use png. I'll see at some later point
