I'll keep this short:

This film was very good, funny, and well-written, at least on the dialog level. I thought it suffered one or two character derailment problems, and a few explanations didn't show any effort whatever
Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
("My larynx!", while vintage Fry, is not sufficient to maintain my willing suspension of disbelief.)
I applaud the writers for calling back to pretty much every single episode while still maintaining an engaging plot, although like most of you I disapprove of their treatment of JB and TLotF. Devil's Hands I can live with, because Fry/Leela always gets a snap back.

Despite my complaints, I laughed, I loved, I learned...boring human stuff.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the Weird Science forum to attempt to cram this movie into my pre-conceived theories of time travel in Futurama. It doesn't bode well for me or the Universe.

3/4
Not as good as Serenity, better than Nadesico: The Prince of Darkness

First off, it's nice to see all the older posters back again.

Now for Zoidberg's my turn to review this moving picture!
Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
Lars was a little lame at the beginning. Very cheesy, but not, oddly enough, Fry cheesy. As the movie progressed, the Lars angle progressed very well, and it was probably one of my favorite sub-plots of this movie/plots from the show as a whole. Originally, I thought that the Copy Fry storyline would be a shorter joke with him being killed in an hilariously ironic way. However, I am definitely happy with the way they did it. It made it so the ending of the movie was open for Fry/Leela, even though the movie showed progression in the relationship.

The jokes weren't the greatest ever. For some of them, I got a little giggle; for others, I laughed a lot. I do agree that the early-mid section of the movie dragged a little bit.

On the time travel aspect: I thought the explanation that it was paradox-free time travel definitely helped the possibility of the story, although I don't think that paradox-free travel is possible. I'd think more of a Back to the Future approach, where a person will not notice changes personally and will live life through that timeline, although, if they were to travel back to the fracture point and try to travel back to their time that they'd travel instead to the alternate timeline. Thus, some of the things made sense, although, some others didn't at all. One thing in particular was Bender from the end traveling to Applied Cryogenics on New Year's 2000, since, using the principles from the movie, we wouldn't see this until the end. However, a simplistic explanation was that, for that part, we were seeing the scene from the end and not from the exact point in time we were watching it. Either that or that it was solely for a joke and was not an attempt at preserving any continuity whatsoever.

Overall, pretty good. I'd give it a 8/10, so, for this poll's purposes, 3/4. Very good, but not the greatest Futurama ever. Could've used more Zapp and Zoidberg.

I was satisified with the "shippy" aspects but I think the rest was somewhat flat. It was an interesting treatment of time travel and the paradoxes that may result. It was great to see glimpses of some favorite characters (Zapp's bit was too short) and running jokes, but there was not much new or fresh material on the comedy side. I'm also concerned that when it is cut up into episodes and shown on TV it is not going to do much to win any new followers. Maybe Comedy Central will always run the episodes in order so that by they time new viewers to the show get to the Big Score episodes they'll be converts already.

It may grow more on me, but right now I feel it's almost a stretch to give it a 3.

I loved the movie.
9.5/10 because perfection can never be met.

Loved:
Fly-mutant
"Hang on Scruffy!" (Bender's delivery of the line is fantastic)
Bender cutting off Farnsworth's hand with a dull saw, both times. Plus the idea of Bender going back to hack off Hermes' precious torso.
How Bender ran over to Fry and jumped in his arms when he found out he was alive.
"Phillip, there's some kind of trash can here to see you"
A fleet of solid gold death-stars!
And obviously all of the emotion that has been the hallmark of this series.

OK, after a few viewings I'm finding more to laugh about since I'm not concentrating on the soap opera aspects of it.

[edit]
Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.

"All hell will break loose..." - Bender at Fry's pen switch scheme. Biggest laugh for me by far!
That and the slow yet deliberate way he trips Tinny Tim, "Oops," seem to be a subtle new wrinkle in Bender's sarcastic character that works well. How many ways can we be made to love and laugh at an [BLEEP]hole?

Also the revelation of the colonel's secret recipe, "chicken grease, salt" is a great Bender line.

Help me understand something. In the beginning, Professor Farnsworth tells them that they were fired 2 years ago, and they are shocked. So obviously they've been working for those 2 years, no? But when Leela flies the ship, she mentions that she hasn't flown it in 2 years.
Explain to my brain. Thanks.

Yeah, I'm sure that the weak, thin explanation of the gap in the series is an overt joke in itself, so there will never be an official explanation that makes any sense.

I think for me, the biggest surprise was seeing David X. Cohen's voice come out of David X. Cohen's body at the beginning of "Bite My Shiny Metal X." I've listened to the commentary & seen pictures, but somehow that uber-nerd voice coming out of a regular (if scrawny) guy body was surreal.

On to the movie: on neither of my first veiwings did questions about past continuity come to mind. I'm curious to see if past episodes that have been diddled with will play the same as usual -- I suspect they will, at least for me.

I'm not sure what I expected. The date kind of sneaked up on me, so it was kind of a "oh yeah, that's today!" moment, meaning I hadn't been pining and yearning too hard. With that mindset, I do know the movie exceeded my admittedly nebulous expectations, and that I was chuckling the whole movie thorugh -- accusations that the humor was lacking ring false to me, although I was just so overjoyed by every reappearance and fan-pleasing self-reference that there's no way I can present my opinion as unbiased. I did notice the lack of a full orchestra, though.

So, basically, awesome work Futurama crew! Here's to a plethora of Lovecraftian tentacles in The Beast with a Billion Backs.

You know, it's kinda nice to come back after a year or two and realize that, not only is the site still running smooth, but people I remember are still posting... or posting again thanks to the new movie. I literally cheered seeing some of you guys again. This place is good times.

Anyway. I don't have much to say about the movie that hasn't already been said. That said, I'm going to say things anyway.

Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
Lars, man. I swear, one of the curses of being a film major is learning how to spot plot twists way too early. I got it about two seconds after he showed up on screen. I was like "That is clearly Billy West, sounding like he's trying too hard to disguise his voice. And Lars looks like Fry. I bet it's a time travel thing." The worst part about it is that, if you have a hunch before you watch it the first time, every scene with Lars in it feels like you're being beaten with a bag of hammers.

On the second viewing, though, everything leveled out for me a bit more. The Lars plot line made sense, and I can see how it really wasn't that obvious unless you were (subconsciously and sadistically) trying to figure out the twist in the back of your head.

I for one had no problem with the retconning of Jurassic Bark or Luck of the Fryrish. It worked, and we still have those episodes anyway. The other thing is, if we're allowed to be upset by the timeline changing and things generally going berserk, shouldn't it bother more people that there's a gigantic crack in SPACE ITSELF? I figure they've got three more movies to work out the universe before we can really judge them, and maybe by the time the last one ends, we'll have more important issues on our minds.

It did bother me that there was no mention of Devil's Hands. I wasn't expecting a full-on love story, but I thought there might be at least a reference or two. That last shot of the series, with the holophonor Fry and Leela holding hands and walking away, is permanently burned into my memory as one of the most touching moments in the entire series. It always felt like such a final word, despite the fact that so little was really resolved. I wish there could have been, at the very least, a little more tension between Leela and Fry. If she'd just had a little bit of conscience about Fry's feelings, for crying out loud. I don't need Calculon-level emoting here, but something would have been a relief... Instead, Leela ended up as a plot device instead of a character. Object of Fry's desire, object of Lars's desire, ditzy girl who likes to be flattered by a suave dude... that's fine for Plot Device Girl #5, but where was Leela? Maybe she found her way back for the next movie. At least, I certainly hope she did. It would be kind of a huge slap in the face if she still didn't give two shits about Fry after the whole Lars incident.

Anyway, despite my ranting, I found the movie really enjoyable. I didn't get that "wow" feeling I got from some of the greater episodes, but it's really never a bad thing to have these guys back. And this is only part one of four. I'm really excited to see what they do from here, especially with the commentary hinting that the next movies aren't so complex and scattershot.

Internet, it has been so long since I've properly nerded out about this show. Thanks for listening, internet. I... I love you, internet.

I was touched by the Fry-Lars backstory. SEYMOUR and LEELOO...just made me squeak in cheesieness. I don't care. I loved it. I didn't really like Leela in this one either, she was so oblivious to Fry that it was rather sad. And I agree with El Zilcho about TDHAIPT. Otherwise I think it was pretty interesting with all the characters that they did use. I mean the ending was kind of cheesy using almost every character but it was alrigh. Here's what I think about the ending:

The Beast with A Billion Backs will either go like this (Due to the video I watched a TLZ):

Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
Either it will continue solving the rip in the space story in much detail or it will be like some episodes that kind of end on a darker tone like War is the H Word and we it'll start a new. The reason why I think that is simply because all the stuff from the storyboard of TBWABB can't possibly be related to BBS. Especially the Death Ball scene (which I cannot wait to watch).

My overall grade 8.6 because I didn't laugh in giddyness.

I´ve actually seen it a long time ago but here are finally my thoughts:

Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
While the intro was obviously trying to be impressive with re-introduction of the crew, it felt kinda lame and it got only worse with that "Box" joke which only led to contradicting cancellation references as was allready said. After Hermes decapitation there were at least some minor giggles like Fry calling doctor "Goodandsexy", but still, the first quarter of the movie was somehow dry.

I also think that the whole scammers plot would much better feel in comics or video game. In fact haven´t they allready done "Bender-as-parody -of-Terminator" in Futurama paper incarnation?

Part of the movie is kinda pretty good. Bender´s time travelling, Farnsworth´s doom machines, LaBarbara giving hell to her husband but in the moment when Fry goes back to the year 2000 it´s one of the most tired routines from the show. The night when Fry got frozen and his life before it was retroactively used so many times that it gives me headache.Even before the movies were done deal, we´ve talked on these boards how Futurama movie concentrating on the past would be bad idea. And yes, it´ll be repeated for 1000th time but I got angry very much wen I´ve got that that "Luck of the Fryish" and "Jurrasic Bark" are now de facto trashed out of the series.

As if it wasn´t enough I simply felt moments like Bender being the alien fleet destroying New York or him fossiliazing Seymour as annoying syndrom of fan service trying to rationalize everything in the show by tying it together. Also, I´ve somehow felt Fry substituing his romantical interest by relationship with animal as pathetic.

With Lars-Leela relationship there´s problem with the first time view that before the big twist it can be seen as generic as well but as it turned to be I have no objections.

That being said, Bender´s 12 years long search for Fry was funny enough to hold one´s attention, particularly both Gore´s scenes. The last part was fine piece of dramatic action and despite the problems with songs I truely liked the second one.

All in all, I´ve expected more but I think it deserves about 70%.

The DVD is not out in Quebec yet (which sucks, I was there day one to buy it but they didn't have it...), but a friend of mine had it on his Ipod and I couldn't stand not listening to it.

First of all, it was very conforting to have new adventures of the Futurama crew. God that feels so good to see them again. Overall the movie was pretty funny. I laughed a lot, I liked all the references of the show they did. The storyline was pretty good, too. It was enjoyable. but there were a couple of things that I didn't like :

Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
Musical parts. I never was a fan of those, and that hasn't change. They were not bad, but I just hate those parts. Also, Fry story while he went back in past was a bit strange. I tought it was off a bit, compared to everything else. Also, as much as I like emotional stuff in Futurama, I had the feeling that those moments in the movie were forced a bit. Finally, not enought Zap !

Other then that, I liked it alot. Can't wait to have it in my hand. I'd give it a 8/10

To quote lovable Bender, I'm back baby! The story of my absence is a long and strange one, but long story short, going away to college means less time to post on messageboards. To those who remember me, good to see you again. If you don't, you SUCK! Naw, I'm just kidding, you guys are great! And now on to my big review.

Spoilers ahead! Highlight to read.
I sorta felt like this had nothing to do with anything. This wasn't what I would have done. It's clear they know they have 3 other movies in which to wrap this up. That said, I liked the movie for what it was.

The Fry/Lars connection
I did not make this connection til the very end. In fact, I sorta *rubs back of my head* was going along the lines of the grandfather paradox short. In my defense, they kept switching to Leela every time they showed the whale. They had me thinking it was some ancestor or something.

Other than that, I was touched by the plot twist. I didn't mind the reset of Fry and Leela's relationship (It's par for the course around here)

Bender
Some people say that the movie was misnamed. Actually, any other name might have revealed the plot. I found his time under the control of the nude aliens to be quite hilarious. Rather than become some boring zombie, he remains the Bender we all know and love. I also felt that the title fit not only because he goes on a crime spree, but because he also helped save the Earth.

Leela

Like most others, I'm getting rather tired of her shoving her relationships in everyone's face. However, I do like that she can take charge in any given situation and kick butt.

Fry
For a guy who's supposed to be an idiot, he sure knows his way around time as opposed to other episodes in which he shows poor math skills and poor understanding of time. That said, it was fun to watch him try to win Leela and ruin her wedding.

Hermes
Did we really need this? I've lost my interest in LaBarbara. She's as faithful as a cat that doesn't get the attention it wants right now. Watching Slim say goodbye forever was worth a chuckle.

I did enjoy the movie, it's just that the wait has been so long and nothing has truly been resolved thus far. Once you accept that this movie exists in its own world for the most part, you can enjoy it simply for the sake that Futurama is back.

Well that's my review. I give the movie two thumbs up for existing in the first place and eagerly await more installments.

Got Bender's Big Score yesterday. I watched it, and I loved it. I liked all the dubious time travel Fry and Bender did. Leela falling in love with Lars was good, and everyone getting scammed that leads to homelessness was superb. The rips on Al Gore were funny, and Fry going back to the past to bond with Leelu was very touching. Bender tracking Fry down to kill him for the nudists aliens was hilarious. The nude aliens were funny and Bender stealing things from different time periods was awesome!

It was great to see all the old favorites again, Nibbler, Ethan 'Bubblegum' Tate, Robot Mafia, Barbados Slim, and yes even Zapp all shined in this movie. Bender's Big Score is a must-have for any Futurama fan! The songs were good and it's very enjoyable from beginning to end. I give it 5/5. Until "Beast With a Billion Backs"!

First, bobbot, Yaweh is Jehveh is Jehova is Iehouah is Iehovah is Jehovah is Yehovah is Yehowah. They all mean the same thing, just different ways to translate the Tetragrammaton.

Kryten, why don't you want to be the god worshipped by a third of the world's population? It has its perks. It's either that or you're just showing your gratitude by throwing glorious gems at me.

It was #18 on Amazon when I looked. I don't know what that means as that page is updated hourly.

Sorry mister Weiner, I was just making a little joke. I really already knew that. As well as the fact that all of those names refer to the God of Abraham, who is in fact Allah, the one true God.
That is ,I suppose, if you buy into the whole supreme being business.
