Yeah, that's great, but I'm not getting my hopes up way too high, what with everything in the past. But I hope just as much as anybody that thats true!

Ah, this is great news.  Once I heard about the movies I knew that a revival of the series was going to happen sooner or later, but having it offical now just puts the icing on the cake.  :D   I'm so happy that all the fighting we've done for this show has paid off!  I just hope the new episodes are as good as the original 72.

I wonder how much of the 'story' Matt Groening and the boys have left to tell us?  I wonder if in the (second) first epiosde if they'll make note to why they've been gone for so long.  Do you think it'll pick up in the year 3004, or do you think they'll skip 4 years and put us in 3008?

It'd be pretty cool IMO if the first episode started out with Fry playing a video game and saying the same thing he said in the first episode, then Bender says "you stink loser", he pushes Fry out of the way, steps up to the video game and says "Benter's back baby!" and the opening title rolls.

Still, Kelly and I just gave a nice loud 'Yippee!' to the news.

Maybe they'll use the movies to cover what's happened during the 4-year hiatus, and then have the episodes pick it back up in present time.

That's not bad.  If the first movie does come out xmas 2007 and the new season does start in early 2008 that'd be perfect.

No, I don't think that would be cool. I mean, it's confusing enough already without introducing some new character called 'Benter'. Wouldn't he just get confused with Bender?

The Sun picked this up about 12 hours ago, but they're citing a different source (Katey Sagal, not the press release).

Here's hoping that some of the original production staff are available and willing to come back to the project (I'd particularly hate to see the animation go to a different studio).

Well, seeing how as of yet I have nothing useful to post...

Oh, wait, here I do:

* June 22, 2006, Comedy Central officially announces that they have ordered 13 new episodes of the series. David Bernath, senior VP for programming at the cable network, stated: "There is a deep and passionate fan base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our audience and it is great that we can offer them not just the existing library, but something they've never seen as well."

We can dance! Duh duh, dah, duh duh, duh-dah, duh duh dah, duh duh, duh-dah...

This is going to be even better than that time when I was a kid and I got an extra piece of chocolate, and then of course everyone else wanted it, dispite the fact they were allergic, not to chocolate, of course, but something, then anyway, they started rounding in on me, and I tried to run, but somebody grabbed a milk and threw it at me, so I tripped, and then people were throwing things, and by the time I got away I had everybody's chocolate, and I ran out and ate it all and got really messy, and I got a stomach ache, but it was worth it cause the chocolate was so good and stuff...

The episodes are gonna be just like that, only without the chocolate, stomach ache, and, oh yes, of course, they are actually going to happen.

Are you kidding?  FOX would just fuck it over again.  At least CC will treat it like gold.

If you don't have cable, then you have 18 months to get it.

Even if you don't have cable the DVD set will probably be released by 2009, so you wouldn't have to wait that long.

Do you have any friends with cable where you may be able to watch it, or have them tape it for you?

Spectacular! I'll get the camera ready to take many photos of the TV. I've only seen Futurama on DVD and stuff...Never in it's prime when it aired on FOX... Here's hoping they do make the series revived and also that it will be made with the same animation companies and various other contributers and that it will not be a big pile of shit when (and if. Yup, still not totally believing it yet) it's aired on CC, which I have   ;) and I'll finally get some use out of it more often.

From the comments at the end of the TV Squad article:

"Hey, everyone. I'm John DiMaggio, I'm the voice of Bender on the show, and yes it's true: WE'RE COMING BACK! Billy, Katey, Maurice, and myself (as well as the other cast members) are looking forward to (mid-to-late) July to start getting into the studio and record new episodes. Thanks for all the support and digging the show all these years! Bite my shiny metal ass!! And I'm out!!!!!!!!"

Just saw this in Yahoo's TV mainpage. Still in a stage of shock/disbelief.  WOW.  just WOW.

Maybe because I've been through this dance many times before but this looks legit.  WOW.  Can't even think.

Edit:  Does this mean in 2008 it will be pulled off Cartoon Network (even though I'm sure they'd be sick of re-airing reruns for the 100th time)

I was under the impression that CN's contract ended in '08 anyway, which was why CC aquired the rights to the reruns for 2008 (and several years beyond) in the first place.
