Don’t misunderstand: Hope springs eternal!

But with not a single word about whether the idea of reviving our favorite show has even crossed the mind of anyone in a position to do something about it -

That’s all it is: Hope.

Not a complaint, not a rant. Just an obdurate fact.
Hey, I’m elated, ecstatic, thrilled! That we’re getting any more Futurama at all.
I think F*x, CC, et al, will wait at least until they have reliable sales figures for the first DVD before they consider bringing back the show.

Till then, all we can do is vote with our money.   ;)

[EDIT]

Hey, TOTPD!  :D

Quote from DXC:
One big decision we have not yet made is how, once again, to “end” the series—hopefully not for the last time.

I want to believe that this is the start of a multi-season or multi DVD-set run, but it does seem like they're aiming for a very limited scope of work. What do you make of the "hopefully not for the last time" part? Sounds to me like they're planning a single season with a series finale and hoping that it goes well enough that they get extended for more seasons (or DVDs). I'm going to try not to stress about the hard to predict revenues and the whims of executives higher and mightier than MG and DXC and just be glad that we've got at least one more season coming at us.

Billy West already said they've started working on the second movie, so I assume they're slotted for all four DVDs as rumored.  I think DXC was just referring to what happens after that.

Lets just buy three or four copies each to give them the figures.

I hope all my friends and family will appreciate their Futurama DVDs for Xmas 2008! Here you go, great auntie Maude, but I'm warning you - the young people on this use curse words!

Maybe I can use them as currency.

Wow, I didn't think Gotfuturama was gonna make any more updates in a while, that they site admins were too busy in work, so what a great christmas gift to find this article and get vague plot details. I am seriously excited for Everyone Loves Hypnotoad, as long as it isn't 22 minutes of the hyponotoad staring at the tv and making the sound effect. Although that would be a good cost cutter.

I am seriously way to excited for this, When I read the article, I screamed like a little school girl. I should probably sleep now, but I can't, because I have insomnia, not because of the caffeine, it was insomnia.  ;)

I do believe the Hypnotoad thing was intended as a joke.
Most likely...

I always intended it as a joke. There's really no way they can base an entire episode around character like that.

Well, I really wouldn't mind having an entire episode with Hypnotad staring out of the TV and that annoying sound in the background.

I was watching Simpsons Season 9 commentaries with DXC and they referenced Futurama a few times in them. When Cohen was talking about the backround of something that was scientific, Matt said, "This is what a Futurama commentary sounds like." In another episode's commentary, DXC was talking about how the use of "turd" was brought up at a Futurama read thru.

Then, after watching for a while, I started thinking about Futurama's return and what the first new episode's catchphrase should be. Only one came to mind: We're On Some Other Channel.

And that's all I have to say.

Oh yeah, I read that the other day! Bender's Big Score...YAY! A movie about Bender! However, there should be a Fry movie out first!   :D

First, good to see you back again, Sal. Second, you're blind. CGEF's last few news stories have been about the movie/new seasons, with Cohen's interview the last story (after the Xmas thing).

Ah, somebody else I've never heard of. You've been here since the 10th, so I won't say "Welcome to PEEL" and all the rest. To the topic, F_G, that has been debated on PEEL before. The consensus is Groening/DXC/the rest want to have a movie that goes back to the comedy that is Futurama to get some new people interested into the show, as well as get the interest of old fans, and then try other stories, such as Fry/Leela and all that jazz. Don't fret. There will surely be shippiness in the new season, and possibly some in a movie. But, the point is, the purpose of Bender's Big Score is bringing funny back (yeah!).*

* That was a horrible joke and it's only made worse since it's a joke related to Justin Timberlake.

I'm glad to see this show is coming back. I'll definately be buying the movies, that's for sure. This is(was) easily one of my favorite television shows, and I really don't think it deserved to be cancelled.

One could dream this delay was due to Groenings relentless devotion to the Futurama Movie.

To i_c_weiner: I was aware of the movie and last I heard it was in the writing stages. Its the detail (like Nudar and the inclusion of Seymour) and the fact it's being animated I'm amazed and excited about. This is real. It's solid you can't change your mind once somthings animated (I hope) you can't just scrap it. Its for Keepsies!

Somewhere, someone very lucky is watching new Futurama. Its nostalgic to me now and intensly stimulating. I can not wait.

Billy West stated on his site that the crew wrapped up recording four more eps (one DVD) in November, making eight eps and two DVD's voice work already finished.

Wait so the four movies will be broken up into 13 episodes? We need more material after that. Katey Sagal is pretty lucky in her career thus far.

1. Married with children has a long and popular run
2. Married with children finishes
3. Years later Futurama begins
4. Futurama is axed
5. 8 simple rules is picked up
6. John Ritter dies Katey basicly takes over, shows sucks
7. Show is axed
8. Katey has brief but prominent guest appearances such as lost
9. Futurama is ressurected and again Katey is going back to work!

Has it really been decided that the episodes are going straight to dvd 4 episodes at a time?  I want new Futurama as much as anybody, but I'd much rather they release a season and then put the whole season into a boxset.  I know CC has the rights for the new season, but what it seems you're making it out to be Ralph is that they will simultaneously show the season on Comedy Central and release 4 separate dvds.... again not exactly what I'd like to see happen, but that's just my insignificant opinion on the matter.

So,

Just so I can sort things out in my head, as I've read many different views... will there be 13 episodes that are going to be released on Comedy Central or will there be 4 DVDs that go straight to stores?

Katey was in Lost?
Was she Locke's woman in the flashbacks?
Thought she looked a bit like her.

She was also in some episodes of Boston Legal
where she was making out with her son, in the same ep Kateys son was caught by his dad(Neelix) wanking to a picture of his mom.
Reminds me of my childhood.

I had a dream last night I saw the movie. It Molder and Scully in it but it wasn't the same voices of the same people like in the show the X-files. Also the reason that the place wanted to keep Bender was because he could steal flat screen TVs.

What a fucked up dream.

^ So far as I know...it's totally unclear.

First the movies were announced, then the new season. My instinct is that the new season pick-up will pretty much eliminate/delay the straight-to-DVD movies--but that's just a guess, of course.

No one in a position to really know has said yet.

Around one of many corners of the crowded bistro was the man himself, Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons. (Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Homer, was also at the party.) Groening was happy to talk about his other baby, Futurama, coming back with four new DVD features. They'll also be cut down into 16 new episodes airing in the U.S. on Comedy Central. Hopefully someone in Canada will snap them up.

"All the cast was excited about coming back - Katey Sagal, Billy West, all of them,'' said Groening, who never hides his displeasure at Fox's premature cancellation of the edgy sci-fi 'toon.

Told Groening my kids, 16 and 14, have never known life without The Simpsons, now in its 18th season and closing in on 400 episodes. He laughed when I told him my son Daniel, at around age seven, ran into the room once yelling, "Dad, there's a guy on TV who sounds just like Mayor Quimby!''

Turns out it was a clip of John F. Kennedy giving his inauguration address.

"Let me offer you an apology,'' joked Groening.
