Listening to the table reading for TDHAIP shed some light on the musical inspirations for Fry (*cough* *Queen*), and it also made me think of what the entire Opera would consist of. There are two real events in Leela: Orphan of the Stars (the Orphanarium and the Robot Devil's wheel) and the fictious battle with Godzilla (how 20th Century of Fry). Do you think there would be more fantasy scenes concocted by Fry between the openning and the end of Act 1 or would he pick real events (and if so... what would they be)?

What would the chunk of the second act be (after the scene with the Robot Devil) and what event would lead up to the climax of the end (the kiss)?

Maybe I'll answer when I'm not so tired.

Do you mean what fry would have put in his opera after it was ended when the Devil stopped it?

He means he listened to the table reading of Devils Hands Btb....it's kind of obvious  ;)

The singing in the table reading was...interesting. I like how it actually came out much better. Good improv singing, though.

I agree. It at least could've made it into the deleted scenes. Every deserves a Bohemian Rhapsody treatment; hell, even All Your Base got one. Now I'm trying to figure out the other musical segments in the reading most notably the part with the robot mafia and Tinny Tim. I know it had something to do with the opera performance rather than the actual opera. I wish the Neutral Planet staff had gotten to that transcript before they stopped updating.

Ok, im very stupid.  What is a table reading?  I probably know what it is and dont realize its called a table reading.

A table reading is where all the actors sit around a table and read their parts in the script out loud. It's sort of a first run-through. This allows the writers to see if the jokes work when spoken by the characters.

So, how does one get to said table reading easter eggs? 'Cause I REALLY wanna know. Really. In fact, this seems like the kinda thing that there would be a thread about. Is there one already?

Select "Devil's hands are Idle Playthings" from the main menu, then push left or right on one of the options on the Devil's hands menu screen (I forget which one exactly. Just mess around and you'll find it). A set of the Robot Devil's hands will appear. Select them.

Well, Andy, it's a pretty short list. Jaw explained how to access the Devil's Hand's table read in the post above yours (to be more specific, you go to its menu screen and press the up button).

The only other available table read is for A Tale of Two Santas. Go to its menu screen, press the right (as in opposite of left) button. A candy cane frame should appear around the promo image. Press play. Enjoy.

More on easter eggs.

Back on topic, I can see him ripping off other iconic movies. Maybe he and Leela could fly a la Superman and Lois Lane, while Sal and/or Scruffy suspended them from ropes backstage. Prob'ly some shipper episode shoutouts as well:

I've been thinking about this thread off and on over the past few months (yes, it's true, I have no real life   ;) ) and wondering what the rest of the opera would have been like.

After perusing the ep many times, the table read 2-3 times, and the bit Fry was writing on the balcony, I've come to the conclusion that Leela: Orphan of the Stars was structured rather like the ballet The Nutcracker - most of the plot being in its first half, the rest just spectacle.  Act I introduced Leela, her origins, her heroism, and Fry's quest to win her heart.  Act II would have been a holophoner extravaganza of spectacular visuals and music, rather like Fry's piece in Parasites Lost, only more so.  This would have been Fry going all out to show Leela "what I see when I think of you," and would have showcased his skills and the strengths of the holophoner as an instrument. At least part of it would have been holophoner-generated Fry and Leela dancing, probably through fantasy landscapes and space scenes. 

The entire first act of the opera was a buildup to the second, so even though Leela saw the first half and heard a little of it, it never got to the "important part" (as Fry would have seen it), the part designed to express what Fry feels for Leela.    This tallies with Fry's luck, and makes the episode even more tragic for him, poor guy.

So, what do you guys think of that theory?

Yeah, I think that sounds pretty damn plausible. Sounds like the kind of thing Fry would do, anyway... Poor thing, as if he needed it to be any more tragic!
