I heard the song "Miami 2017" by Billy Joel the other day and seems to fit futurama very well. It's like what happens to Old New York. Maybe like if you were watching from outside Fry's tube or something.

From today's issue of Entertainment Weekly, in the TV section, referring to the show Eli Stone:

On if my log questions the exponent ened up being 1.077 but "accidentally" putting the decimal in the wrong place i got 10.77. Don't worry I still got the problem right. I just also got Fry's pin number out of it.

This gal reminds me of Leela:

edit- A walking, talking, real world Leela. Well, as long as she wears that "doo."

edit- As a matter of fact, all women whom wear their hair over one eye, now that I really get to reflecting on the subject, truly remind me of Futurama! Wow, thar's a bunch of womens that do the "doo!" Leela, Leela, Leela everywhere! Cool! This here nugget of reflection has, indeed, brightened my day. Now, the next time I go forth on a foraging manuever, be it grocery shopping or whatev... I'm going to be "Leela Hunting!" And keep a little stick count of how many Leelas I come across in my journeys. Oh, this must be the nerdiest scifi nut game ever invented for a scifi nerd thrill. I need some coke bottle glasses to complete the vision I have of myself in my mind's eye at this very moment! Ah, jeez...

I was watching the Simpsons yesterday specificaly, the episode where Marge is in A Streetcar Named Desire She's explaining the play and Bart asks "are there any jive talking robots?", which imediatly made me think of Bender. This episode is from 92 or 93 so obviously Futurama wasn't around yet. So I'm thinking it was either an early idea in Matt's head or just something they thought would be funny.

Groening has always had a lifelong obsession with/fear of robots. That and conveyor belts.

Does anyone else think that movie director John McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator, The Hunt For Red October, ect) sounds almost EXACTLY like Dr. Zoidberg? Listen to any of his DVD commentaries, and it's almost uncanny.

"And YOU...and YOU...and YOU!"

McTiernan has a goofy voice, and maybe it's because I've only heard him during interviews, but I don't think it's too Zoidbergian. I'd have to hear him say "Whoop whoop whoop!" to be sure.

What reminds me of Futurama? I work on board the distant (sea-going) ancestor of the PE ship, complete with Groening-style overbite!
Some of the electrical apparatus here on board is built by a company called "Bender." I'll try to get some pictures and post them.

Watch out for crack commando-like units of penguins!

They aren't made in Mexico by any chance?

The thing that reminds me of Futurama the most is the well meaning but incompetent pizza delivery guy at my local pizza parlor. He was 20 minutes late delivering my pizza last week because he got lost. I'm only 1 mile away from the pizza parlor; next time, I'll drive there & pick it up...

We're down in the southern Caribbean right now. Thought I saw some penguins here the other day. Their flippers looked very tired.

Yeah somebody mentioned that a few weeks ago. Your right about if being weird they got the year right. At this point if Conao O'Brian gets maimed in a war in 2012 then I'm going to believe every prediction they've ever made.
