Public information address from Peel's most half-arsed member:

There's a poll running on the UK Channel 4's website which is trying to find the 100 greatest cartoons ever made.  Not surprisingly, Futurama is one of the shows that has been nominated.  To vote, go to:
 www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/G/greatest/cartoons/

Note: I think you have to cut and paste it into the address tab in a new window to get it to work, I think there's a problem when Peel redirects you.  In any case, I'm sure you wizz-kids will be able to figure it out for yoursleves.

Channel 4 likes to churn out loads of these 3 hour long 'top 100' programmes.

No doubt the simpsons will win, and futurama will come in at something like 23rd, and get about 30 seconds of airtime.

Haha yeh! They are pretty good shows though, 10x better than anything on ITV.

The link worked for me also  :)

These things are churned out, but can often be interesting. I'd like to see how Futurama comes out. The TV Guide has mentioned it repeatedly when new seasons start and they re-air them on Sky. So go Futurama!

Thanks for the link. Although I know that Futurama won't make it into the Top 10. (But it would be a nice surprise if it did.)
Can someone please post results here when they are released?

if you really want futurama to win, vote for it and 9 other really obscure shows that are likely to get about 2 votes. if everyone votes for futurama, family guy, and the simpsons, FG and the simpsons will win. but if we divert our votes to other things, they have a lesser chance.

I added "Count Duckula" to the list, seeing as they had Danger Mouse but not that fine programme. We'll see if they add it to the nominations.

Whoo.... Count Duckula...
I hadn't thougth about that show in, like, ten years or so, but the moment I read it's name it all came back to me in a giant flash. The human mind can be a scary thing...  :)
Same thing happened a couple of months ago in another thread when someone mentioned the bloody Animaniacs, hadn't seen, thougth or talked about it in years but when I read the word their incredibly annoying theme song instantly got stuck in my head for several hours, with lyrics and all...    :(

I didn't vote for Futurama! (Just kidding, of course I did, but who on PEEL wouldn't?) I don't live in the UK, so be absolutely sure to post the results, or at least where Futurama placed in the top 100...

Supposedly, the mid-80s D'n'D Saturday morning cartoon was pretty boss.  I havent' seen it, but I've heard good things about it from people who care about that stuff.

The rest of the list looked like crap.  Either I hadn't seen it nor did it belong to be in the 'top 10' of all cartoons.  Feh.

Some of them weren't even cartoons. Nightmare B4 X-mas was done with stop-action animation. Though I guess that might count...I dunno.

Apparently the "100 Greatest Cartoons" show will air this Sunday on Channel 4. Guess we'll find out just how much we influenced the result... ;)

Well, Futurama came in 26th (The Simpsons of course came in No 1.). Not a bad segment on it, actually - basically the guests (including Billy West) slagging off FOX for cancelling it despite, as the program puts it, "critical acclaim".

Not bad for a show that got no publicity, was cpnstantly preempted by football, and it's last episode aired nearly 2 years ago.And we still beat out nearly 3/4 of the competition. Why can't FOX see what everyone else is obvisously seeing? Oh wait, that's right, they're

So Billy West was actually present at this award show? Man, I wish I coulda seen it. Any hopes of someone posting a transcript, or would it not really be worth repeating?

It wasn't really an award show, just one of these top 100 countdowns where they get semi-celebrities to comment nostalgically on TV shows and movies. It was literally about a 75 second piece on the show, if that.

I watched it, it was quite good, i had hoped that Billy West might have done some voices but they spent all the time saying that if The Simpsons hadn't been made, Futurama would be as popular as Simpsons is now.

Personally I don think enough people voted for the pole for any good result to come out of it. The day after I went into college and every1 else agreed with me saying that futurama is deffinatly more popular than family guy... and possibly even the simpsons.

I think the reason ‘Family Guy’ and ‘The Simpson’s’ beat ‘futurama’ is because ‘futurama’ is cancelled, there are quite a lot of people out there who never seen ‘futurama.’

This has to be messed up anyways. There is no way the Incredibles beat Finding Nemo!

Besides, Futurama has that substance that makes it much better than the Simpsons and Family Guy. You can identify more with the characters. That's exactly why FOX canceled it. It was like the reality shows or the Simpsons they always play.

*sigh* Yeah. I wish that they hadn't included movies, or at least included movies in a separate poll. That's what kept us from being in the top 15, at least. (If it were just shows, we woulda just barely missed being in the top 10.) But comparing Futurama to films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke...there's just no comparison. It's like two separate medias, practically. Ah, well. Animation is considered one of the lowest forms of entertainment, anyway. (Which is pretty insulting, because I'm persuing a career as an animator. Funny world, eh?)

Another thing is the 'newer' films/cartoons seemed to be high up. I think if they did the same poll in 5 of so years time the results would be completely different. Considering futurama isnt new, it did we to come in 26th

I am telling you guys, all they have to do is to make a Futurama movie.(Like those Inuyasha movies)

Pepole see movie in theater or on dvd, like it and buy the boxed dvd set to see all the show that they miss.

That is the way for our fav show to come back to life.

Yeah, that's right...just like Inuyasha movies are so popular, (speaking of shows who's ending is too open-ended) I'm sure that Futurama would benefit from even a DVD-only movie release. But money would still be the sticking point, I think. *sigh*

That seems to be a problem with Channel 4's polls - Tony Blair was voted Britain's Worst Person, for example. The British public seem to have a short memory, unfortunately.

And it seemed as though a lot of the highest ones were CGI movies. I know that CGI is a type of animation, but I think that perhaps it shoulda been in a different poll. But Futurama probably did better here than it would have in an American poll. It probably would have been like, "Futurama who?" -_-;;
