This thread is going to serve as a shortcut to the post-brainstorm phase of AFF (Anchovies for Fry), our plan to get back at Fox by mailing them tins of Angry Norweigan Anchovies and argumentative letters on October 25th. For more details, refer to our site:
 http://ssfuturama.wz.cz/aff.php

If you still have questions after going through that (which I doubt), you can post a question here and a helpful PEEL member might answer your question.

Furthermore, now that our plan is complete, anybody willing to make overtures to other online communities and tell them about AFF should list their targets here, so anyone else considering helping can avoid repetition. I will be keeping track. Consult the list at the bottom of this page.

When doing this kind of thing, one must avoid spamming. Basically, make sure that the community has at least a potential interest in Futurama and stick to the appropriate forums if they are available (general discussion, movies and telvision). Also, while plugging AFF, one should take care to be conversational, encouraging people to share their feelings on Futurama etc.

Online Communities taken on so far:

adult swim (messageboard)
Futurama Forum-zone (messageboard)
GameFAQs (messageboard)
Imdb.com, futurama forum (messageboard)
Newgrounds (messageboard)
The Leela Zone (messageboard)

I didn't exactly get overwhelming support when I tried to post this at another forum, but I'm not through yet! Give me a little while at the IMDB message board, see what I can do there.

It's GameFAQs.com, but don't bother with them, at least not yet. The IMDB board is real slow, so I'll give reactions later.

A co-worker has told me about a radio talk show called "The Buzz" mabe we could tell them about the fan base and how we took the cancleation. Perhaps this might help or even get the word out about AFF on there?

Wow, this is so incredibly amazing! I just saw the completed site for the first time this morning and promptly started dancing around the house.

I’m extremely proud of everyone who has dedicated his or her time and love to this project. I have the highest hopes that it will end up drawing some attention and doubt severely that the effort has been in vain, for if it has managed to capture the passion of the fan community for this long, and even if it has only turned the head of a single outsider, it has been a success in keeping the spirit of our beloved show alive.

If there is anything I can do in addition to the obvious agenda, please let me know. Keep fighting the good fight!

Edit: I noticed that ther are a few futurama fans on The Barenaked Chatter at MYSD.org so I posted a link to the AFF site. I don't know if it will draw any attention as the boards don't seem to be checked that frequently by a large number of people, plus it's a slightly different demographic over there, but I thought it was worth a try.

Oww! My virgin ears! Such language! Umm anyway, I dont think PEELers are the biggest stockholders. Most of the people here are fairly young, many in high school or college, so I dont think they're likely to be out there playing the stock market game.

Guys, I can't spam these people on my own, it looks pathetic, as my name and email is on the site. I'm going to have a email list up shortly of spam targets.

Also, if someone with moderate photoshop and html skills would be willing to help polish the site, I'd be very grateful!   :puke:

thanks everyone. I got zoidberg227 helping with photoshop. I think the most important think at this point would be to follow vida in sending those individual e-mails. Vida, which ones do you have so far? I've concocted a copy and paste recruit email:

Subject: Help us protest the cancellation of Futurama!

HI, I'm fellow Futurama fan working with others in organizing "Anchovies for Fry" the biggest simultaneous Futurama fan protest ever! Based on an old stunt that saved the show 'Roswell' from being cancelled, in which fans sent in endless bottles of Tabasco sauce(because the aliens on the show ate it all the time or something) we
are going to be sending FOX cans of anchovies to arrive October 25th. For more detials, check out our site:

I may be quitting AFF, I haven't decided yet. I just no longer feel the need for new episodes. After watching only the first few episodes of season 4 I feel a sense of completion. Maybe the reason I was so worked up about the cancellation is because somehow I felt like FOX was going to steal it away from me. Now that I have it all I'm content. I may still send in a tin and write a polite letter but that will be it. The vengefull stage of my fanship is over and I'm glad. Now I can enjoy the show for what it is and not what it could have been.

I think you'll find that most of the PEEL old guard have the samne attitude.  With the exception of winna, newhook and myself, everyone who's posted in this thread registered during the last 12 months, so I'm assuming that most of them weren't around for the original "Save Futurama!" campaigns.  A large proportion of the people involved in that campaign have now given up and moved on.  I love the idea of Gail Berman being buried under an avalanche of anchovies as much as the next man, but unlike the "Save Star Trek!" and "Save Doctor Who!" campaings, support for the return of Futurama seems to be dwindling as the years pass.

Even though the last season was very satisfying, more episodes would be a good thing. And it doesn't hurt to try.

I cannot deny the obvious logic in KAH's post. I also know that it's better for a show to end on a positive note than to last for ages untill it becomes a shadow of itself. Finally, I do think that Devil's Hands may be considered as a closing comment. After all, in S4 Leela did date Fry.

Yet, knowing all of the above, it still saddens me that Futurama will be no more. "To end... Like this?!" It's the same feeling you get after turning over the last page of a good book (American Gods in my case, for example): it's the end, but you still want more.

I will still send a can of anchovies (if I find them here), not to ask for the show's return, but to show my support for what probably was the greatest TV cartoon show ever. I am proud of owning the four seasons on DVD. Not as a man might be proud of his collection, but as a man can be proud to own a good item.

It doesn't hurt to try, but when you make multiple attempts, with diminishing returns each time, you have to ask whether it's worth the effort anymore.

The original "Save Futurama!" online petition from 2002 got global press coverage, and gathered 130,000 signatures.  When we tried another petition earlier this year even CGEF ignored it, and it only got around 3000-4000 signatures.

Face facts, FOX aren't going to budge.  A petiton of 130,000 didn't change their minds, CN's ratings didn't change their minds, and unless Region 1's sales of Season 4 have been phenomenal, DVD sales won't make them change their mind.  So why should they be swayed by a few tins of fish through the mail?

That's assuming, of course, that the tins ever reach anyone important at FOX.  They'll probably get weeded out as a potential terrorist threat or something.

Personally I've reached the point where I think it's better to let it be.  We got four great seasons, and we were left wanting more, which is more than can be said of a lot of shows.

All right, but I'll completely give up hope when Matt Groening and David X. Cohen give up hope. There's really not much else we can do besides buying the DVDs and tuning in to the reruns. Still, if AFF don't send some kind of message, nothing will. And I think it's safe to say that if there were new episodes, they'd be fine. The crew seems to lament not being able to tell a lot of stories left in the pipeline.

And this is just a complete utter fool's hope, but Matt Groening's appearance on CN was pushed back to September for some reason. I doubt he was that busy. Maybe he had to wait for some sort of "official announcement" of some kind. If he does, that gives us time to abort AFF.

I am going ahead and send my can of anchovies on the new date of Oct. 25.  The worst that can happen is that nothing happens and I am out what max $5 for the entire deal.  And if it is fools hope then I am fool.

I'm sure they gave up hope a very long time ago. Seriously, do you people walk into brick walls in your every day life? You can't just focus on the past over and over. Futurama got cancelled. That was over TWO YEARS AGO. Seriously, FOX probably doesn't even remember the show by now.
