"The jokes are rapid-fire and random: Brockman says the rock "will soon be more than just a place for teens to have sex and commit suicide," and the scene cuts to a teenager jumping off, asking, "Why did they cancel 'Futurama?"' - a reference to another show created by Matt Groening, the man behind "The Simpsons."  "

Its called "Fraudcast News".  It hasn't aired yet but airs this Sunday in North America.  Basically the episode has Mr. Burns buying up all the media in Springfield so no one will say anything bad about him, but Lisa starts her own homemade newspaper.

Thanks DotheBartman, maybe I can get it earlier on "illegal ways"  :nono:.
I think it would need many years until it is shown in Germany.

That makes it what, the third reference to Futurama this season? (Groening as the creator and the movie poster preceding this one)

edit: Fourth, I forgot about Bender in I, D'oh-bot.

So is Futurama a fictional cartoon in the Simpsons universe, or (as the crossovers suggest) is The Simpsons a fictional cartoon in the Futurama Universe? Granted, they're both fiction,... (stupid medication kicking in...)

Actualy, it's both!
The Simpsons is a show in the futurama world (a big peice of garbage) (Mars university), but Futurama is a show in the simpson's world (my big fat geek wedding) (fraudcast news)

i need to lie down.

Thats sounds cool! At least some of the staff who work for Groening are realising what they're missing out on...

Well yeah, a lot of them were fans of Futurama (Matt Selman called it "brilliant" ).  And now J. Stewart Burns and Bill Odenkirk write for The Simpsons.

Sorry...im still kinda in denial. Nice Futurama reference though, this time it was an open low-blow to FOX cancelling Futurama. I think thats a first on the Simpsons.

Cool

The Simpsons have been making a lot of Futurama references lately ("I, D'oh-Bot" and "My Big Fat Geek Wedding" to name a few)

There, there NP, it'll be okay. We're all still in denial. Here have a day at one of those fancy spas and a toblerone.

But do I really want to watch an episode of the Simpsons just for a Futurama refrence?
....

Yes.

I think I've work though. Stupid time zone.

On one episode of The Simpsons, you see Ooder wearing a shirt that says "Futurama" on it. On "Missionary Impossible" you see Bender on the end of it, and you see Bender is the classroom during the big test on the one where Bart and Lisa are both in the third grade (I forget the name of the episode).

Whenever I think of a Futurama reference on the Simpsons I think of that last one in 'Bart vs Lisa vs Third grade' where Bender is dancing.

When did Homer ever buy a professional baseball team?  I know he was a baseball mascot, and he owned the Denver Broncos at one point, but I think the author of the article is spreading some misinformation.  They also seemed to have forgotten about "Who Shot Mr. Burns?", although that wasn't a story arc, just a two-part cliffhanger episode.

I wonder if all of the Futurama references are an attempt to get revenge on FOX.

Hey, enough references, and we could stick them all together and make a new episode! Albiet a poorly edited, utterly incoherrent, and slightly homoerotic one.

it's a devious plan to sneak increasingly more references in until it becomes futurama with simpsons references.

the final stroke to this insidious plan would be to replace the title sequence and all simpsons references and presto, futurama is back.

I'm suprised they still haven't gone with my idea of having the Simpsons watch a new episode of futurama.

To answer the people suggesting they're taking shots at Fox, I doubt that....so far.  All the references so far have basically just been (sometimes sly) references for fans of both Simpsons and Futurama to catch and laugh at as they watch, similar to all the references to "Life in Hell".  And the "Fraudcast News" one sounds more like a parody of us fans then anything (albeit a loving parody).  But with that said, The Simpsons takes shots at Fox on a regular basis (they were actually getting tiring last season, but I like them again now) so there's nothing saying they won't take a specific shot at them for Futurama in the future.

or at least have a tiny little cameo of Bart and Lisa watching a old clip of Futurama on the TV instead of the news or Itchy and Stratchy. I'd love that, but a new clip would kik ass.

Yeah, thanks for the reminder. I watched the episode and it was probably the best this season. And that little Futurama reference made it even better.

I think more people should follow the example of that brave person who jumped off the cliff in grief.

No way! I didn't notice Bender in I, D'oh bot, when was that? Does anyone have a screen capture? I usually watch for sly references like a hawlk! A HAWLK! *continues to shout at monitor as Bender walks past window*

PS: Awsome reference in tonight's Simpsons ep!
PPS: Does anyone else remember the coach gag where Fry slides down the tube and into the Simpsons's living room? (another good opertunity to share a screen capture if you've got one)

Saw it, loved it. What's great was it wasn't sandwiched in a crappy episode, it was pretty socially relevant. Hey, maybe if we follow the example of the pimply voiced teen we'll get our show back!
