I have to admit, I wasn't completely sold on Futurama in the beginning. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't quite connect with it either. I had taped a bunch of episodes, but one day I realized I hardly ever watched 'em.

Flash forward to Winter '04...there was a big ice storm in my area, and it knocked my cable TV out for a week. Wanting to watch something, I saw my Futurama tapes and figured what the hell, I'll throw one in the VCR. Maybe my expectations were unrealistic or something in the beginning, but now I couldn't get enough. Even turned a few buddies on to it as well. I've since gotten re-aquainted with Futurama with some DVD purchases, and in hindsight the ice storm was a blessing in disguise. Better late than never...

Did Futurama click with you right away, or were you a late bloomer like myself?

If this is a rehashed topic, sorry in advance.

This hasn't been done exactly, but here's a rather similar thread... so I'm afraid this one may be doomed...

Welcome to PEEL regardless, quagmire!

EDIT: Oh, very well, gorky...

I was watching since the start, but didn't go mad for it until it started getting shown
at really annoying hours late at night, for some reason...

How dare you belittle the new member and not even have the decency to answer his question, SJM!

Seriously though, I haven't been on since day one, but rather I probably started watching mid-season 2 or early season 3.

Welcome to PEEL by the way, quagmire!*

*That's your other problem, Slack Jawed Moron, you welcomed the new PEELer before I did! For shame...

Well I did see the first episode on March 28, '99... But didn't stay very involved with it. I'm so ashamed

I watched it every week since SP3K (I think I saw about 60 of the episodes on their orginal arings), but I didn't become obsessed with it until I got the season 1 dvd, and was able to rewatach all the season one stuff again. I don't have Cartoon Network (I live in Canada), and Fox never aired most of them more than once, so it was my first time seeing episodes more than once or twice.

I watched the first German dubbed episodes on september 2000, but wasn't really interested in Futurama.
Then last year in august I saw the show again on a Winamp-TV-Stream (saltwaterchimp.com) and got "adicted", bought Season 1 - 3 on DVD and searched the web for Futurama-sites (I knew Peel from that time on).
Last month I decided to talk to other nerds about Futurama and so I registered on Peel, and here I am, now.

I've been an enthusiastic Futurama fan from the start, but full on obsession didn't hit untill season three (incidently this was when it became aparent that the show's survival was at risk).

Wellcome quagmire, may death come quickly to your enimies!

When I first heard of Futurama, I was not too excited... I figured (quite wrongly) that it was just the Simpsons set in space (which really doesn't make sense... I mean, the only thing I like more than a good comedy is a good Sci-Fi... I should have been all over Futurama from the start!). And so the subject sat for the next few years. I didn't even bother watching the pilot or anything until a few years later, when I was bored and "acquired" the entire first two seasons (I have them on DVD now, no worries). I was hooked, and the rest is legend.

Morberg's done a fine job of summing up my history with the show. I never watched it on FOX, but I would watch it since it was on before Family Guy and thought "Hey, this is a pretty cool show".

I watched SP3K the first night it aired and liked it. However, due to Fox (grr), I hardly had a chance to watch it after that. The constant schedule changes and lack of promotion made me think the show was cancelled. Then, through FARK or AICN, I think, I read that the show was cancelled. I thought "oh yeah, that was a funny show," 'acquired episodes,' and signed up to PEEL.

thanks for the greetings, glad to be here

yeah, I clicked on that link, and noticed there were some similarities with this thread topic. Ahh, crap.

I ended up missing alot of episodes on their first run, mostly 'cuz they were pre-empted by football...so on the bright side, there's still a few "new to me" episodes that I'll be looking forward to seeing!

I've been watching since the first episode. As evan has pointed out, it was pretty difficult to follow the show as it jumped from Sunday to Tuesday, always in a different time slot. I kept in touch by reading Futurama Outlet frequently until its unfortunate end.

I wasn't a fan from the start- I fell madly in obsession (?) with Futurama while watching The Problem With Popplers on a friend's PC, a few years after Futurama premiered here (Australia).

When I watched the first episode, I fell in love with it. But, thanks to FOX's crappy programing, I barley watched. I watched a few episodes that I knew were on, but that's it. Fast foward to march 30th 2003. I had lot's of money and went to the store to buy DVD's. On the shelf was a copy of Futurama Volume 1. I remembered liking the show when it was on, so I bought it. My first impression was that it was going to be like Simpsons season 1 DVD(watched few times, got bored and sold it.). When I got home and placed it in the DVD player, boy was I wrong! I fell in love with the show all over again! I managed to find message boards to talk about Futurama and also managed to watch the final 8 episodes on FOX. I now have Vol. 1-3 and eagerly await Vol. 4 to complete my collection.

Long live Futurama!

Had never even seen The Simpsons (or possibly any Fox show?) when Futurama started, let alone Futurama. Around early 2000 I started watching The Simpsons and gradually got ridiculously obsessed. Heard Futurama was from the same creator (and conveniently aired on the same night) and thus started watching and liking it in season three, though mostly as a casual viewer. In season four I got more into, got angry about Fox's treatment, read CGEF, made sure not to miss "A Tale of Two Santas", etc. Become a horrible, horrible Futurama nerd in McSeason 5.

I've been WATCHING ever since it first came on Australian TV, but I didn't become obsessed with it until I saw War Is The H-Word.

Before, I was just an ocassional viewer. I didn't hate the show or anything, I just didn't think it was that funny. But ever since I've seen War Is The H-Word, I've fallen in love with the show.

Since I've watched War Is The H-Word, I've gone back and re-watched all the other episodes (hell, I own all the DVDs now anyway) and I can't believe I didn't get obsessed with the show sooner!

I guess the humour was just lost on me or something the first time around...

i have to (shamefully) admit to not giving the show much of a chance at all. On first glance, the show seemed to be a futuristic, not-very-funny simpsons clone. I never watched more than 5 minutes of the show's entire run on Australian TV.

...Just a few months ago, I moved into a new place with a few friends. One of them had quite a substantial DVD collection, including seasons 1 through 4 of Futurama. We were bored, free-to-air TV wasn't very gripping, and so we started going through the DVDs. I was hooked... Futurama is fresher and funnier than I ever remember the Simpsons to be.

I didn't believe it would run more than 2 seasons from spacepilot 3k but LLLiS and M3S changed my mind. Although I don't watch tv that often and so didn't catch all the eps and go crazy about it until 2002

I've been watching from the start.I was and always have been a huge Simpsons fan so when I found out there was another show by the creator I had to watch.I remember cursing Fox and sports in general every time the show was preempted by football.
On top of everything else I'm a huge fan of anything to do with robots and Bender's one of the coolest robots ever to be put to film.So much so that I even named one of my Aibo robots after him.

I joined up in about the 2nd Season. When the show first premired I figure it was just going to be a Simpsons Rip off show or it was just going to be crappy. So at first I avoided it but then one night Futurama was coming on and I had nowhere to go, so I figured I might as well give it a try and plus I do like The Simpsons and Matt Groening alot, so if it was like The Simpsons it wouldn't be so bad. So I sat down and watched it and fell in love with it.

No. I was not on the bandwagon.
I joined at christmas last year, pretty much the year they cancelled it.
It wasn't such a bad thing though as being a new fan I had bought all the seasons on DVD in the space of 10 months, so not much waiting was needed unlike some peelers...

I did watch the first few episodes, but ashamedly I left the bandwagon shortly after that. I only really picked it up again when season 3 began. Then I bought all the DVD sets and now I am firmly on the bandwagon.

Well i began watching Futurama when it first came out in 1999, b/c at that time i was a dedicated Simpsons fan. I learned to love it and continued to watch it for the rest of the Season. But after i while, i got hooked more on Family Guy and South Park so i didnt watch episodes until early 2003 when my interest in the series was renewed. Unfortunetly, the show itself was not renewed so i have nothing but the DVDs and internet sites to satisfy my interest in good ol' Futurama...

Fan since "The Series Has Landed" aired in my country (which incidently was my first episode, so you can say from day one), but didn't become obsessed until LLLiS (Loved Kif's exasperation and quiet loathe for Zapp).

My earliest 'Futurama Memory' was seeing XMas Story at my Grandma's house the night it first aired. So I'm sure I watched it before then but I can't recall if I was 'there from the first day'. My interest in it was renewed once it started on AS.

My story is very similar to DrJohnZ's. I watched the first three episodes, then sort of lost interest for a while.

I only really started watching it again about 5 or 6 episodes before it got removed from Fox's linup(damn bastards).

This is almost exactly what happened to me. I started watching The Simpsons in '99 or 2000, and I eventually became a rabid fan. Then one day, I saw a Futurama comic book and realized that it was created by Matt Groening. So, I began reading the comics and watching the show (this was probably around the start of season 3). I had been a casual viewer, until I read of Futurama's cancellation. I didn't see why Fox would cancel such a great show. So, after taping "The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings", I became the huge fan that I am today. Soon after the finale aired, I began reading sites like PEEL and CGEF. I realized that Futurama was treated unjustly by Fox, and this made me want to read about the show even more. I joined PEEL in January, and the rest is history.

great answers, BTW...good to see I'm not alone joining in late! I don't understand how FOX can pull the plug on a show with the caliber of Futurama, knowing they themselves (FOX) are the ones largely responsible for how the way things turned out. I mean, this isn't House of Buggin'...it's a show created by, ohhh, the guy who pretty much gave the network its only shred of credibility in a sea of programs that even Troy McClure himself would be too embarassed to appear on. Show some respect, FOX!
