The other titles of Futurama are 'Doomsville' and 'Aloha Mars'.  The question is, why would it be called "Doomsville?

Kurt, did you ever stop to think that maybe those titles were rejected for a good reason?

Aloha Mars doesn't even make sense since it takes place on Earth. What were they thinking? There must have been some bad granola making the rounds at that production meeting.

If Professor Farnsworth ever had a spin-off show, I think 'Doomsville' would be a fitting name

Ya it would.

But in reply to why it  would be called Doomsville its probably because in almost every episode something like almost kills them or they get into a lot of trouble.

Well, originally (as in when that title was being considered) they probably hadn't completely solidified what the show as going to be, or that it was going to take place on earth as much as it does.  Remember that Futurama was being developed for a long while.

::doesn't even look at first post::

Aloha Mars and Doomsville.

::Reads first post::

BAM.

Aloha Mars: they were on mars for all of what, 2 episodes?  No point in that name.

Doomsville: made it sound like more of a dystopia than they wanted - they actually talk about that on one of the dvd sets.  In fact they talk about the names on one of the dvd sets.

Well, they said Futurama was gonna be no Jetsons, so the producers probably did plan a dystopian view of the future. And "Aloha Mars" just sounds like the name of an episode.

all in all, they chose the correct name for the show i would claim. aloha mars being ridiculous and doomsville being good, just not perfect...

True, but you generally come up with a general plot before you name it.

True, but I think the titles were really just very early ideas that didn't make it very far.  I don't think they had nailed all of the concept of the show or who the characters were going to be when those titles were considered.

Actually, I think all three names are medicore, Doomsville may have been the best choice imo, more original than Futurama. But all three seem like they weren't thought out too well. Though now that I am used to "Futurama", it fits well.

Well, Futurama is a serious, no-nonsense, straight to the point name which is why it's so appropriate.

What people perceive to be "doomy" about Futurama I'll never understand. Seems like Fry was a lot less happy in the 20th century. *shrug*

Futurama was a good name I think.  I think it was sort of a homage to those old cartoons and old fashioned sci-fi shows and movies, and also indicates some sort of "showyness" to it as suggested by adding "rama" to the title.  Hard to explain, but ya...notice also that the PE ship looks sort of like a '50s sci-fi style concept of what a spaceship would look like.

what difference is there beetween negative crap, positive crap, and regular crap. They're all the same, they're all crap.  And saying you prefer one type of crap over the other is just strange.
