"Brayvo! ennkore!"
Zapp's lines were hilarious.
It may have been said already, but what he meant was "bravo" and "encore", which is French for "more".

This episode was the perfect "swan song".
I don't know if this expression is known in English as well.
It is said that a swan sings the most beautiful song of its life just before it dies.

The tragedy of it all was softened a bit by the comedy, and the good memories we'll always have...

I have watched this episode like 10 times now today, and I think this would have to be my favourite episode of Futurama. To be honest, I didn't like the opera parts the first time around - probably because it wasn't what I was expecting. But the next time around, I watched it for what it was, and I thought it was brilliant: the music (being a musician myself), the lyricism... everything!

The ending was... astonishing. Once again, first time around it left me dissapointed. But the more I saw it (and thought about it), the more I liked it. A brilliant way to end a brilliant series.

I wish i taped it now on sunday (Aug 17th). When i first saw it i was sad halfway though it (when it was a break) because i kept thinking about it being the last episode, and i was partly thinking about what was going to happen when the 2nd part started, but then in the opera bit when Leela started singing, it cheared me up and then the ending wasnt so bad.

[Bender] get this stupid chip out of me before i kill myself![bender]

The first act was OK but it seemed too rushed. It was like Fry and Bender needed to get to robot hell ASAP but they needed some story before that bit too. Act two was quite good. I liked the return of Beelzebot's love of the word "ironic." Scruffy the janitor turned Scruffy the butler was quite funny.
Act three was slow going at first. But once the opera got going it was excellent (more musical madness from Ken Keeler.)
I was afraid the ending was going to be over-sentimental. I thought when I first watched it I would be like "Aww!" then on repeated viewing I'd say "Wait, there's nothing 'aww' about this at all." Thankfully it was a good ending and although there was no proper closure it does leave hope for the future.

I wouldn't say it was the best episode ever but it certainly gets a high ranking. A.

What can I say, the music from this ep would do it more justice than these words can. I'd been looking foward to this ep unbeleivably much for about one and a half years, and to finally see it, and for it to fufill all my expectations and more was awesome. The Robot Devil has always been one of my fave characters, and he even outdid his performance from 'Hell is Other Robots', in this ep. I loved all the irony, the opening credits were class, as was the beautful opening shot from the ep itself. And the awesomeness continued throughtout, twisting and turning, with many great lines, scenes, characters until the final climax. All supurbly done. For some reason when Fry was on stage and everyone left, it made me think of Shakespear. Anyway, I couldn't have hoped, or asked for a better ending, awesome to the max!

Sorry again if it's a noob question.

It's actually holo-actors portraying Fry and Beelzebot. If you pause at 14.25 you'll see a holo-actor playing Bender who also have human hands.

The real Fry (playing the holophoner) still have Beelzebots hands.

Yeah. what he means is, "I can't believe everyone's making this up as they go along." It's a comment on musicals and the rehearsed song routines that we are supposed to believe are spontaneous conversations put to music.

The more I watch the episode the more I love it and the more I hate it. I think the ending was the best part. I get goose bumps everytime I watch it. I hate the fact that it is the last but if there were more I'm almost afraid that they would take away something from this episode. It's specialness and the reason why I get a lump in my through is because I know this is the end... at least for now.

Long live Futurama

Anyone else noticed Leela's character becoming more soft and feminine in these last episodes, as opposed to the show's start when she was just aggressive and pragmatical? I can't be certain, but I think even her figure changes to make her more 'rounded'. Sorry if it's been pointed out before, watching this ep really made it stand out for me.

What can I say other than this episode rules!? I've watched it 10+ times now and I'm yet to get bored of any bit of it. I managed to annoy most of my friends/family by shoving them in front of the TV and ordering them to watch it (even if they hadn't a clue what was going on!). Being the pathetic 12 year old that I am, I have to wait 'til my birthday to get series 1+2 and 'til X-mas for 3+4. But thats got nothing to do with the thread ^-^' The moment I saw the "See you on some other channel" bit I felt really sad, but by the end I thought "It's better it ends now rather than continuing the show with episodes that eventually get pointless."
Futurama Rules.

BTW this is my first post, which I eventually plucked up the courage to send. I hope its ok?
^-^

Welcome to PEEL.

Friendly tip, read the PEELers FAQ - there's plenty of good information in there.

And your post was fine - a lot of people feel that way (including myself). The best thing a show can do is exit the airwaves gracefully (unlike some other shows, like, in my opinion, Friends and The Simpsons). But we also feel that Futurama could have gone at least one more great season, but was never given the chance.

A truly awesome episode, absolutely amazing. I loved it! It was everything I thought and hoped it would be. The storyline was perfect and it was a great season finale. It was funny, it had emotion, it was a perfect Futurama episode

What more can I say, I loved it and there wasn't a part I didn't like. One of my fave eps ever. Futurama ended on an extremely good note and I'm so very very happy it did

Hi all

This ep rules. Bender was great ("of course I was ! You doubt it ?" ), Ms Melanger's lines were hilarious : "is it true that you are a robot ?" or "Mr Bender, I simply cannot teach your child"

I must say that this episode filled me with optimism when I saw 'See you on some other channel'. Sorry, I cannot control that feeling, even if my reason says 'it's hopeless, this was the LAST Futurama ep EVER'. But, it doesn't answer the many problems other eps have raised (in TWOF for example, we know that Leela is the Other, but what's her role ?, Fry must save the Univesre once again, when ? how ?… . Before TDHAIP, I thought all this would be resolved in it. I was wrong, and I cannot avoid telling myself that maybe this will be answered in new eps or in unaired ones… one day (I know, I know, there is a rumor about that, but he ! rumor… )

The piece I expected to be part of the ep is the Turangalîlâ Symphonie, and Fry would have composed the Turanga Leela Symphony. But the characters couldn't have sung on it… Although, I don't remember this Opera very well, but the plot of the Futurama one reminds me of La Damnation de Faust from Berlioz (Actually this legend, after Goethe's Faust, has been adapted by many composers). In this legend Faust sells his soul to Méphistophélès to save the woman he loves from certain death. So he believes ; he really signs with Him, but I think the woman even dies (ooh, my bad memory, saperlipopette !!). I guess it's the Devil's plot that makes me think about it : seduction, manipulation, false promises, "just sign here" and emotional blackmail. Well, the usual evil ingredients for a good drama.

I really liked the Opera part. I guess that the whole thing parodied the way real operas are conducted and the usual dramatical mechanisms (sure, musicians understood this kind of humour better than me). After the interupted Act 'wherein Fry deals with the Devil', I was captivated by the "realistic" Act 'wherein Fry is confronted to a heartbreaking dilemma' (this title is a bit long, isn't it ?). It invaded Fry's opera sooooo well. Actually, and looking back, it was the logical result of the previous events. It was well-paced and of increasing emotional intensity, although the trick the Devil played on Leela was predictable.

The end was sweet. And Fry's smile when Leela asked him not to stop playing…

Ay, btw, I just wondered : What if Leela really got married with the Devil ?

Ok, I believe some of you peelers read this then sigh, thinking : "This is the dumbest question I've ever read ! That could never happen ; Fry wouldn't let such a thing happen !"
Actually, you'd probably be right.

But… just imagine Leela being forced to marry him, after an incredible combination of circumstances…
Fry's reaction ?
And Leela's, being confined to Hell ? falling into depression, kicking the Devil's ass, trying to manipulate Him or maybe succumb to the Dark Side of the Force ? waw

Leela becoming evil would be interesting…
(I try to imagine Leela as a succubus seducing Fry… argh ! anybody has already drawn her like that ? or written a fanfic ?)

oops, very long post ! not too boring I hope

and sorry for my poor english (not mother tongue )

Opera (Finale)

Robot Devil:
I want my Hands back!!

Fry:
Never!
A deal's, a deal, even with a dirty dealer!

Robot Devil:
Very well, then I'll take what I want from Leela!

*Grabs Leela*

Leela, has promised me her hand!

Leela:
Fry, you do not understand!

I should have revealed I've been deafened by Bender.
The shame. The sh-ame!

But I feared you'd stop writing this musical splendor.
Deception's the curse of my whimsical gen-der.

He gave me mechanical ears.
Effective though just a bit ga-rish.

In return, without shedding a tear,
I agreed, that'd I'd give him my hand...

Robot Devil:
...in marriage!
You'll give me your hand in Ma-rriage!

Hermes:
Is this really happenin' or just bein' staged ?!

Farnsworth:
I can't be real...

Amy:
...not if Leela is engaged.

Leela:
That isn't what I meant,that isn't what I signed!

Robot Devil:
You should have checked the wording in the fine...Print!

Leela:
I'll give you my hand...

Leela/Robot Devil:
...in Ma-rriage.

Bender:
The use of words expressing something other than their lite-ral intention.
Now that, is, Irony!

Robot Devil:
I will marry her now and confine her to Hell.
How droll. How droll!
Where Styx is a river and not just a band.
Though they'll play our reception if all goes as planned.

Unless Fry, you surrender, my Hands!!

Fry:
Destiny has cheated me, by, forcing me to decide upon,
the woman that I idolize, or the hands of an automaton.

Without these Hands, I can't complete,
the opera that was captivating her.
But if I keep them, and she marries him,
then he'll probably won't want me dating her...

Farnsworth:
I can't believe the devil, is so unforgiving.

Zoidberg:
I can't believe everybody's just adli-bing.

Preacher-bot:
By the power vested in me by the state of New New York...

Fry:
No! Stop! Take my Hands!
You Evil, Metal Dork!

*Chop*

you're welcome Zoop.

anyhow, it's a great way to end a classic series. musicals allow characters to express their emotions to the fullest without getting into sentimental drivel. it was cool how the ep. went from being about an opera to being the opera.

i guess this is the closest Fry has gotten to Leela's heart. let's hope he doesn't blow it and disappoint her again. well, it's better to have the series end now. as much as i like seeing Fry and Leela together, it'll kill the show straight(just look at amy/kif...b'uh).

Leela getting sloppy eating that buggalo leg was way cute. the alluring "free spiritedness" in a woman Calculon mentioned in bend-her perhaps. Amy was doing it later too, with boots off and feet on the coffee table! And yes of course, Leela's opera dress was awesome!

I liked the begining right up until Zoidbergs first line. It sucked. Also, why did the Robot Devil jump out of the refridgerator.

Also did they hook up or what? Did they make sweet love after we go cut out or what?

I would give this ep 4/5 stars

Now I have a crush on Fry AND the Robot Devil... that guy was great! He made me grin like an idiot everytime he spoke.

At first I thought the Opera was a little forced, but by the end of the episode I loved it. Also, the bad rendition of "The Grumpy Snail" was really cute.

I would say a fitting end to a wonderful series... although like all of you, I'm sure, I wish we could have seen more closure on Fry and Leela.

Me too. Seeing them both be more like each other makes for a good relationship. I wouldn't want to see hardships in it, though. As someone else said, it has been overdone. I agree completely, and I want to see a more mature fry's and more easy going Leela's relationship.

I also think it was a great ep, and I didn't know you could download all the songs + text from gotfuturama.com. Thank you for showing me.

I think the whole opera thing was great. They hav worked a lot to make it fit, with the words and music. And the way they put humour in the opera as well, was perfect.

Goodbye Futurama. "See you on som other channel".

PS: have heard that they would show season 6 on Cartoon Network. ust a rumour.
