Well, for me, it's that boyhood fantasy of waking up in a different time, knowing that everything embarassing or unintentionally hurtful that was done in the past can only be brought back by one's self.  It's a new life with a whole different set of circumstances.  Not wholly unfamiliar (still on Earth) but removed far enough that all has been forgiven.  And, ready to take on challenges and adventure untouchable by today's means.

Also, the whole thing is damn funny.

The razor-sharp wit, the scathing social commentary, the brilliant humor, the amazing animation, the interesting and original storylines, and the deep characters who tend to get to you more than those of most live-action sitcoms.

I like it because every voice actor in the series is talented, the animation (even in the first season) is incredible, and the writing is consistently terrific.

the witty plots, the humor that never runs dry, the shippiness, the tearjerkers, the amazing staff, how the characters have their own distinctive personalities, the breath taking animation that's never been on tv before, how he un-original story of the future is made original, the voices, the way it's written, and the other fans (PEEL).

Why do I like Futurama? Well, obviously there is the writing, the cast, the satire and everything else that's already been mentioned. But other shows have that as well; there are two things that have made this one stand out for me.

The futuristic setting is one, because there are so many more possibilities than if the show were set in the present. All sorts of wacky technologies, aliens, new places, customs and cultures, all done brilliantly and with a heavy dose of humor, the likes of which I haven't seen since The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Futurama's world is a kaleidoscope of alien cultures wherein Earth is only a small part, being neither the most powerful, the most civilized, nor the most important thing in the universe. Its inhabitants, whether human, robot, lobsterman or energy being from the Crab Nebula, are in the end just people, with all the flaws that term entails. And despite the 'cartoonish' aspect, this world and its people are more realistic and probably a closer depiction of the future than the soulless, anesthesized Federation of smug, self-righteous do-gooders from another series of shows I could name.

There is one other thing, and I'm not sure how well I can put it in words, so humor me. It's the fact that all the characters work so well together. In The Simpsons, the grown-ups and children are essentially in different worlds, but here everyone is around the same age (except the Professor, I guess), and it makes a difference in their interactions. There is this powerful sense of belonging somewhere, of almost wanting to be there in New New York, with all its wonders, and among those people who care about each other regardless of their short-term differences. It's even more poignant because I can identify with Fry in many aspects. Actually, when I think about it, Fry once put it much better (and more succintly) than I could: "Most of all, when I didn't have any friends... it made me feel like maybe I did."

I know, touchingly pathetic.   :)

I like Futurama because even the not-so-good episodes have the abillaty to make me laugh. I like Futurama because it has more intelligence than the Simpsons. I like the shippiness which The Simpsons never had in any of it's episodes. I like it's dead on delivery of it's lines and in-jokes that takes multipule viewings to get. I love how each character develops throughout the series. How emotional the show can get(Jurassic Bark)and how deeply halarious it can really be. I love how Fry's childish ways and his desire to be with Leela. I love Leela and her smile and beauty. I love Bender and his alcohol drinking ways and halarious one liners. I love how the show never lets me down everyday I watch it on TBS or cartoon network or DVD or FOX on sundays. Now in two weeks. The show shall be gone. The magic will dissapear. The show will live on on DVD or hopefully, feature films. The show has gone the way of Star Trek. Almost exactly the same number of episodes, and lives on in feature films. On can only hope FOX could come to it's senses and renew the show or Matt G. could get catoon network to produce new episodes. I will miss Futurama. Now and forever.

                 RIP Futurama

The quirky wit of it always seems to cheer up my day.  I like the way it combines characters that have nearly nothing in common, bring them together, and have adventures that always seem to make me laugh.  Also, they have episodes that make you fell like your part of the show, likr The Why of Fry and Jurassic Bark.  Those were episodes that pulled at my heart.  But most of all, it's the way the show depictes the Future.  I have always wondered what the future holds,  and this show has the ability to show what it might be like in 1000 years.  So even though Futurama has it's ups and downs, it will always live long in my mind.

Sci-Fic + Groening parodial/critics.. it can`t be better!

I'm squishy...

But I like Futurama for the same reason as VF. "I like things that are witty". If it wasn't funny, I wouldn't like it.

But I think I went from "liking it" to "being a nerd about it", because the writers know how to write a decent story, with consistent characters. They don't throw everything away for the sake of a quick laugh, and they are nerdy enough to plan out story-arcs.

I could go into more--the funny cast, the sexy animation, and the fact that David X. Cohen is a sexy sexy bitch who rocks in the audio commentaries, and talked to me on AIM once. But I'm tired and I don't want to sound like such a nerd.

Why i like Futurama.......

Compelling, touching series which will be forever remembered

It's the year 1999, a young boy in his mid twenties heads out to deliver the last pizza of the night. His name is Phillip J. Fry [Fry for short]. He works as a delivery boy in a pizza place, which is going nowhere, he's broke, his girlfriend hates him and on that very night he ends up being cryogenically frozen. Fry awakens at the dawn of the year 3000. He steps out of the freezing time capsule in a new world and Fry is in for the ride of his life. He meets a degenerate robot named Bender and a beautiful one-eyed alien named Leela. Fry defies his life assignment as a delivery boy because that's the dead end job he just got out of. Instead he tracks down his great-great-great etc nephew professor Farnsworth, who hires him and his new friend's a job. And ends up finding himself back where he started as a delivery boy but in the year 3000.

Futurama is a parody on science fiction and it does this perfectly. The very first episode of Futurama sets the whole series up. Showing the city New York [renamed New, New York] in the year 3000. It's now a sprawling futuristic city where cars fly, aliens walk the street like they are apart of everyday life, space ships land on the moon seconds after take off, robots are beer drinking bums who live in the gutter with no purpose in life.

One of the many classic moments include when Fry goes looking for a phone booth but ends up in a line for a suicide booth. He meets his 160 year, old great, great, great etc. nephew professor Farnsworth. The many references to classic Sci fi movies including the Time Machine [original] and Star Wars.

Fry provides the cowardice and idiocy of the planet express crew but he also is a very nice, caring person, he loves Leela the one eyed alien, dearly, despite the fact that she is the only known alien of her species in the universe. Bender provides a lot of the comic relief and resembles Homer from `The Simpsons.' Dr Zoidberg is a hilariously hideous alien from another planet and is desperately poor the funniest of the crew. Professor Farnsworth is a senile old man and creates crazy inventions. Amy is a beautiful, extremely rich girl from Mars and Hermes is the least interesting of the crew.

Matt Greoning and David X Cohen have blended fantasy and the future to create a show, with classical sequences interpreting the future in all its glory. Never has an animated show pushed the button on reality so far. Futurama has occasionally been compared to the simpsons because of the creators. In many ways it is but unlike the simpsons Futurama generally has a continuing storyline and developing characters who don't stay the same age.

Futurama isn't just a comedy but is also occasionally a touching drama, which can sometimes have you in tears by the end of an episode. The most compelling episodes started appearing after Fox announced that they would be canning the classic series after five seasons. Matt and David decided to release the episodes, which would have appeared towards the end, if it ended up being a long running series. Fox was very cruel to the new series and aired it at obscure times. But a fan base had been made immediately after the first episode aired. When news came that the show would be canned fans were outraged a petition begun and over one hundred and fifty thousand people signed it. Fox paid no attention and continued with their plan. Futurama will still be remembered as one of the best cartoon series ever made despite Fox's treatment of it.

1) It's funny.
2) It's smart
3) It's well written in the extreme.
4) It has deep, well developed characters.

Well, when I started watching (around season 3 I suppose), it was because I had heard it was from the creator of The Simpsons, which at the time I had become a recent nerd for.  At first I simply enjoyed it as a good sci-fi gag show.  I didn't pay much attention to the "finer" aspects but nothenless enjoyed it whenever I remembered to watch and thought it was a very funny show overall.  Hey, if nothing else, the "Star Wars" parodies (such as in "When Alien Attacks" ) always had me in stiches, since I was into it at the time.

Around season four, I guess, I started to watch it more regularly.  I visited web sites, found out about the cancellation, even taped "A Tale of Two Santas" despite the different time slot, etc.  I think it may have been around "Santas" actually that I realized I'd been underestimating this thing (due to the sheer hilarity of that episode) and started paying more attention.  "Godfellas" aired that year as well, and I also paid more attention on the reruns of episodes like "Parasites Lost" and "Luck of the Fryrish".  I essentially became "hooked" around that time.

So, its become a combination of reasons.  Early on, it was simply because it was a clever, hilarious show, that made me laugh almost without fail.  Later on, I started to appreciate it on more levels (the same would probably go with television in general I suppose).  The thoughtfulness of "Godfellas" or the incredibly human ending of "Fryrish" were the types of things I'd rarely ever seen on television before ("The Simpsons" and "The Wonder Years" being probably the only other shows, though since then I've discovered "The Twilight Zone" as well).  And hey, again, even the less thoughtful episodes like "Santas" could, in some cases, leave me in stitches.  I grew to love the characters, and was also drawn the occasional great satires ("A Head in the Polls" for instance).
