I thought it was a pretty darned good episode. There was a bit much crammed in (could have done it without Leela's parents) but it was fast-paced and filled with little jokes to catch if you were paying attention.

The Zookeeper, well that part could've been better. Poopenmeier was good.

Leela's parents? That's the major downfall of the show. It's just not funny or interesting to hear them whine about embaressement, disapointment, etc for an entire episode. Yes, we get it, they're outcast, move on. And was it impossible for them to give Leela a few minutes before deciding she stood them up? Sheesh, talk about forcing the plot.

But I liked the part where Morris went fishing with the 2 other mutants (Yay, the one-legged guy is back! Happy days.)

I loved the Ikea jokes.

"Zoidberg, get in here."
"Screeeeew yoooou!"

Overall, I'd say average with only a few rough spots. 7/10.

PS: I liked Leela's new dress.

The F-Shirt was good and so was Pi-Kea.

Last season was the episode "Leela's Homeworld" (4x05 in Fox's schedule, 4ACV2 I think p-code wise) in which they finally came clean about Leela's past.

Quick run-down...Bender dumps toxic waste into the sewer, the mutants get upset and drag Fry, Leela, and Bender down to be punished. There, two hooded mutants seem to know much about Leela. Leela's confused, some stuff, near the end of the episode it's revealed that these mutants are her real parents. SHe is the 'least mutated baby ever.' Trying to give her a better life, her parents leave her in a basket in front of the orphanarium, everyone assumes she's an alien. A decent episode.

Bottom line -- Leela's a mutant, not an alien. If you're still interested, I think you can "acquire" it.

Leela's parents were kinda meh, but not especially bad.

Secondly, the songs were cheesy. It's a joke.

That aside,
'Stretch-dude and Clobbergirl' are obviously Bender and Leela. That isn't a ripoff, it's parody, though a little cheap. Bender just hearing about the new justice team and wanting to be a part of it was hilarious when coupled with 'I've got these two costumes for you, but I guess I'll just throw one away'.

Bit's I didn't like,

The 'wacky' immpossible scenes. It took The Simpsons 10 years before it started to do stuff like this, and here we are in the fourth season. Ick. And the episode sort of 'died' at the end because they ran out of miracle cream. This is pretty much intentional, but they shouldn't have done it. A minor case to crack and a not lame parent story would be nice. The joke with Hattie was really really bad.

But apart from that, and ONLY that, EVERYTHING else was great. *Yak!*

In fact, they're are necessary to the plot at all. The Zookeeper could just have blackmailed them to steal the Gemerald after he found out their secret identities. "Clobberella" does yell out Fry's real name in the museum. That's just an reason for The New Justice Team to heist it that was already in the episode.

Futurama's more apt to wackiness because of the setting. Science fiction allows a certain amount of crazy antics, especially a sci-fi cartoon. I didn't mind the wackiness.

First of all, regarding Futurama/Simpsons similarities - an almost embarassing one became apparent on Sky One on Sunday, when the Simpsons ep "Pray Anything" (written in 2002) was immediately followed by "Crimes of the Hot" (written in 2001). The joke about "same sex Ark" was used in both! (Flanders in "The Simpsons" ).

Personally, I don't mind "Futurama" borrowing from "The Simpsons", and vice versa. I'd much rather see it that way than have them both sniping at each other (and BTW, is it just me or do very few Simpsons fans give Futurama the respect it deserves?). Plus, as evan said, the THOH ep was written two years ago, and Futurama is indeed "wackier" in setting than The Simpsons. Futurama's borrowed frequently from THOH eps (Kang and Kodos = The Omicronians, Put Your Head on My Shoulders = THOH 2 ("Homer's Brain" ), etc.).

Oh, and for you people whining about leela's parents, I do believe that is kinda dragging long, but I'm sure that's the reason the writers haven't put them in many eps.

And one more thing, why, if leela's a mutant, has she been able to stay on the surface?

A wife beating alcoholic teddy bear?

The wackiness was awesome, and the story very predictable, but I would think that all part of the parody.

I liked the inclusion of Leela's parents, we got to find out a little more about them. The ending was the most predictable thing ever, but I thought the mugging scene was pretty cool.

Leela's Wonder Woman Outfit was nice, but Fry's Discosuit rocked!

Leela's parents were in there as an additional parody to superhero stories. As in Spider-Man the movie, where Mary Jane Watson was kidnapped by the Green Goblin to blackmail Peter Parker (whom had discovered Spider-Man's secret identity) or in the Spider-Man comics where Gwen Stacy was kidnapped, when the villian discovered Leela's true identity he instead went after the most convienient loved ones - Leela's parents. Who else could he have kidnapped? The fossilized Seymour?

Yes, but with Leela's parents gone, there would be no need to keep their identity's secret. Leela was concerned about her parents, and Fry and Bender don't really have any loved ones.

You kind of have a point there, but it is HIGHLY unlikely that nobody on the staff team thought of that THOH ep. It's just a recycled idea, which we have seen many times with Futurama unfortunatley.

The degree of wackiness was far too far. Obviously Futurama can get away with a lot more than The Simpsons USED TO, but all the non-sensical crap annoyed me. And I cannot BELIEVE they used that joke with Hattie. It was pretty much the same as the joke with the Prof in Mars U. Annoying.

Oh, and here's a continuity breach for you. The tour-guide lady was eaten by the elephant in this episode (4ACV04) but alive in 4ACV07 ("Jurassic Bark" ).

The elephant that never forgets to kill didn't neccesarily eat her. He just sort of chewed on her a bit.

What? That wasn't the same. In "Mars U" Farnsworth yells "what" because he's deaf and senile. Here Hattie yells "what" because she can't hear when Leela whispers. Okay, so theu may look identical, but the joke is different.

About Leela's parents: I don't dislike her parents, obviously she has to interect with them from time to time. What I didn't like, was how pathetic they were, and how porely their part of the plot was written. They walk into a big musuem, look at approximately 1% of the area, and concludes Leela stood them up, and will hate them for the rest of their life. Prompting Leela to reveal herself as Clobberella, and the Zookeeper to learn about it. Could've been excuted a lot better.

Repeating my self here, but there were parts of the parents story I liked. Mainly the fishing trip.

The superhero main story is great. Especially the song.
