There's nearly no way to get one, and if they - the admins - might give you one, you'll be surprised one day to see it under your avatar.

Some time ago they said you have to do the admins a sexual favor.

Actually the age-spread run all the way from 12ish to 40+. The median probably hovers around 19. PEEL ages.

The alert button doesn't do anything because neither of the admins ever read this place and the email goes to them. You're probably just better off ignoring it. The sooner you ignore said person, the sooner said person will get discouraged and go away.

The four active mods keep up with what's going on.  Nix has already 'fired a shot across the bow' of one of the spammers.

Patience.  Kryten, Velour and Nix don't have itchy trigger fingers, but they will use the banstick as a last resort.

Just some advice, you should not make a pubic spectacle of a ban, just ban users who cause trouble and do not mention it, it's business as usual, it makes it alot easier for a community to adjust to the change.

Thanks for your advice dent, however that ban which this thread was originally created for lays 6 years in the past. The thread only got bumped because a question was asked by a newbie who wanted to know what can get someone banned - incidentially that one is banned now for some other reason.

Once again, thanks for your advice, but I guess our mod-squad well knows how to handle bans, after all they've been doing it for 5-6 years already.

Being banned is just like watching a porno with your hands tied behind your back.

A more accurate analagy however is that being banned is like being on a forum and not being able to post. I guess it's level of suckage all depends on how badly the person needs to have their say in everything.

How are the different ways you can get banned, anyway? (Besides axing these sorts of questions) It sounds like a lot of people have been banned, but most everyone here seems to be nice.

However, there is another matter that concerns me. If someone is thought to be spamming, can he be notified first? You see, I joined just earlier this month and already I'm a delivery boy. But if I'm spamming, I'm not doing it on purpose, I just have a lot to say and comment about. If it seems that someone is spamming, somebody should tell them first. (Please?)

Incidentally, why are people not allowed to delete their own posts?

It's not hard to get yourself banned from a message board. Especially a place like this. Drop a few racial slurs. Invite mArc to a goat sex orgy. Write the same three words in every thread on the first ten pages of Offtopic. You're not being creative enough so I won't tell you the rest. Nobody cares. You're boring.

No, you're not in a position to be banned. My last account I had on this forum got permanently banned. The admins never read this shit and the mods are lazy as hell. Quit being so paranoid, you're fine. I lasted over a year doing nothing but wishing death upon people and carrying out stupid arguments to get banned. Trust me, you're not there at all. You may sign your posts, but that's just annoying, not bannable.

Also, if you're that scared of the mods/admins, that's pathetic. One thing I hate is how they have some strangle hold on this place because every nobody bows down to them like they're gods. They're not gods. They're people. They don't matter any more than you or I. So quit worrying.

But in all seriousness, take my word...you have to be REALLY bad to get banned from this place. No matter how strict the rules seem, no matter how much of an asshole a mod may seem like, no matter how many threads get closed...you have to repeat a cycle like that for months on end if people like you to get banned.
