Well, it's an effective ban when he can come back with a different account pissing and moaning about it instead of being appologetic for being an ass (sarcasm).  All he lost was a few stars and a rank - both worthless because you have the same posting priviledges as a Poppler as a DOOP Secretary.

I guess some people like pushing the envelope of taste and then get pissy when others reject it.

The people who can ban are mArc, slimmy, Nix, Kryten and VelourFog. mArc is a possibility, he has banned for bad taste before, but usually there's a message. slimmy can Kryten can be pretty much ruled out. Nix is not claiming responsibility so that leaves only VF. Possibly, but there's usually a message to go along with a banning. Public chastisement. Like the stocks. We should have the stocks. It'd be funny.

In conclusion, I have no conclusions.Jeremy's been pushing the boundaries of taste for many a decade. I'd be surprised if it was that only.

Yeah, I saw a post by Slimmy just the other day - since I'm a relative newcomer I thought that he had moved on with life since I've never seen a post by him in the nine months I've been here.

When Nix closes a thread, he usually leaves a message, so if he banned someone, I'm sure he'd give a warning first.  The same with Tweek.  Kryten is scarce these days, usually seen in the fanart & fanfic threads (he did use the banstick on someone stalking Venus a few months ago).

As for VF, she's been scarce the past few days.  When I don't see her around I get concerned that she may be ill again.  The young lady reminds me a lot of my wife, so I have more than a small amount of concern for her and her health status.

And he probably got a warning via e-mail.  -marc- sent warnings to Kif prior to his bannishment that were ignored, so if it was an admin, I'm sure at least a warning was sent.

I've never understood the mentality of being an ass on a public forum that somebody else is paying for.  -marc- makes the rules, the mods enforce them.  If somebody doesn't like the rules, start their own damned board.  It's not that difficult (but is time consuming and sometimes financially taxing).

I do know that I try to abide by the rules, but if I'm outta line, the mods know me well enough that a simple e-mail will keep me under control.

Ralph - mArc doesn't send warning emails. I came back one day in November 2004 to find a post that was edited to say "email me if you want your account back". Then when I get perma banned, it was out of nowhere. No emails. Although I probably got the word given to me in #fc a few times...

From what I've gathered over the years it's apparently a case by case thingy. He does hwoever warn people, several times beforehand. Britz comes to mind as an example where both public warnings and email were used. Superfry also received multiple warnings.

From what I've read in the older threads (I'm bored, alot), Jeremy is one of a few members that post things I actually look forward to reading. If you want to ban someone, ban someone with no sense of humour ... I hate those people.

If anyone took his comment to heart, they should be banned. Who takes the 'net seriously, anyway? (idiots) I'd hate to see them try to compose themselves when SA takes the piss out of their favourite band. Sheesh.

Personally, I don't care too much who gets banned, unless they're funny or thought provoking. Or if their PEEL name is "i_c_weiner".

The only memorable bannings I remember are those that involve the use of gay porn, the usuage of a PEELer in an offensive describtion, the relentless bashing of other PEELers, and general spamming.

As Nix mentioned the ban was only temporary. If you had written mArc of Slimmy appologizing for your behaviour and asking to be reinstated, chances are you would've found your PEEL access back within the hour. But now...

Sorry to interrupt you, but that "member" field in the profiles is not controlled by postcount.

That fiels saves the member status you have here, like "Junior member" (under 20 posts), "member" (everything above 20 posts), moderator, ubermod, administrator, and the various special ranks, just as Teral's "HelpyMcHelpHelp" or my "The Listmaker".

Just out of curiosity, could a Moderator/Ubermod/Admin have a custom title like The Listmaker, or is that in the same field?  For example, if you or Teral were promoted to Mod, would you keep your custom member titles or would they be overwritten by your status?

A small curiosity to note is; Custom name holders are always considered junior members by the program for some strange reason.

Proof: Here in my pre-Helpy McHelpHelp days I was listed as a Member when the thread got moved to the PEEL Museum. (incidently, that was the thread that earned me my custom title)

In this thread taken 1 year later I'm a Junior Member.

Nothing particular earthshattering, but a fun fact nonetheless.

The same reason you yourself post in this thread 2½ years after its creation: people have questions/contributions related to the subject and rather than start a new thread they use an existing one as recommended by the PEEL Old Guard.

I know who banned Jeremy, and I'm not particularly surprised having heard the story... ¬_¬

A few misconceptions out of the way though, PEEL was not once overrun with copious amount of rules, and although we've always been a bunch to try and respect each other's rights, we're also a mean bunch, to both newcomers and regulars.  Usually it's just a joke (which was most definitely the case with Jeremy) and once you get used to it, you're totally in the club.  I'm not going to say that it wasn't justified for Jeremy to be banned, but I've seen worse things posted on PEEL over the years.  Also, the PEELer's FAQ, although very helpful and appropriate, is really just a guideline, not a set in stone rulebook. 

Btw Tweek can't ban, only ubermods and admin can.  Tweek is a mod, as is bart182, and Drippy_Taco (Is there an underscore in there?  I forget).  Also mArc and slimmy both don't really make rules anymore, the board is practically self governed.  And if you happen to be banned, a simple apology email to mArc or slimmy will probably not result in a quick unbanning.  They're still around, but generally they have better things to do than watch over li'l ole PEEL. 

Oh, and back in the day we all used to triple post, and call everybody noobs

Haha. Jeremy insulted futurefreak? They've never had any problems before. So did Margarita get mad at Randi, or what? I can't imagine any other reason why he would suddenly go after somebody.

Anyway, this seems like a pretty tame thing to be banned for. Jeremy had some hilarious jokes, from time to time, but I'm not sure if anyone ever understood his crush on Rachel Dratch or his hatred of girls showing skin on peel.

With some people, you won't realize how much you'll miss them until they're gone. Jeremy is one of those people. Eventually, some new girl is going to post a picture of herself wearing a tank top on PEEL, and nobody will call her a slut. And then nobody will alienate her from the board by talking about her vagina non-stop for a week. And then nobody will talk about the 49ers. And then we will all feel very empty inside. Just wait.

Where's the proof? I want to see some beef. No-one has owned up to this banning, and unless there is some sort of official statement denying or confirming it then we will wind up with chaos and anarchy on the streets.

I agree, but I have to admit that in some cases it would be nice to know why. I do think that when somebody gets banned that there is a good reason for doing so, but still...
