I was unsure how to write this message, so I will just spit words in all direction like I do usually.

As I told in context of the Offtopic 2 Board, a billing decision was to be made in the last days. I decided to pay the €174 out of my pockets for now for 6 months of hosting like I did the 3 times before. Reason being that I don't want to see PEEL going down while Futurama is still on.

However, I'm not sure if I want to shoulder these costs all by myself now and from this point on. Some of you might know that I found a new pleasant way of spending my money (which at least keeps it in the PEEL family in some way               tongue No blaming her on this one though).

I didn't want to wait till the last day and then pull the gun, so, I'd like to use your attention to thank some anonymous person for contributing the first dang generous €51, to the Jiha PEEL Fund. I hope some others are able and willing to follow this up in their way.

To clarify:
  • I'm not asking for member fees in any way.
  • No one will get special rights through contributing.
  • However charitable PEEL might be, contributions aren't tax deductible.
  • The currently sole way of contributing is taking some notes (preferable EUROS, but I can exchange the more common currencies) and stuffing them into an evelope headed to the Marc guy on this address list.
  • If you donate, make sure to tell if you want the donation to be anonymous.

I'll keep you updated on the funding level. Should there ever be a "no more" decision by me with money left, I'd either give it to the successor of mine or if total dismantling is about, give it to unicef.

Updated Fund level:
June 2003 payment: paid

Current status:
25 CAD
+ 40 USD
+ 253EUR
= 305EUR

Needed for next half year: ~235EUR (due to more webspace)
Payment for December to May due: December 6th

Fundlevel after that: 70EUR

Yea, Paypal is much easier, especially with so many American's on the board. It wouldn't be worth them sending money by post really.

Sorry, no paypal because ... I don't have a credit card and I know people go got into troubles with it.

I think stamps for an international letter are pretty cheap. Don't even need to pay airmail. For me it is about $1 as stamps that way.

What's the exchange rate for dollars/Euros, anyway?

And how the heck do I type the Euro symbol? It's on my 5 key...

Marc I'm not being funny here but some people are pretty hesitant about sending cash by post. And I especially think people from across the pond might feel that way.

Hey, I don't even have a Euro key on my keyboard, and my system's not even two years old! All you Europeans better like the "$", cuz that's all you're going to get from me.

I can't get euro notes in this town.  How about USD?  And how does one address a letter to Germany?  I tried to figure it out, but the attempt nearly melted my brain.  tongue

USD and EUR exchange 1:1 right now. No problem to exchange them here myself as long as it's not coins  wink

Sending by post really isn't a problem anymore I think ... Never had a letter gone missing within Germany and if you include some paper sheet with a nice loveletter for me, your letter will look just like the million other (letters) each day.

Addresses in Germany:

Firstname Lastname
Streetname Housenumber
Postalcode Cityname
Germany

(postalcode would be 52064 for me)

Unless you've got some weird keyboard, it's the 'ALT' key next to the space bar, you need to use that one.

I could probably afford £30 (realistically) - that's nearly €50 (€47-ish actually - that's still more than a 1/4 of the full price)  smile
I'm fine with Deutsche Post [-mArc-], I'm just worried about Royal Mail losing it before it leaves the country.

True, Royal Mail have given me major problems. But mailing form Ireland to Germany isn't a problem.

[-mArc-], I may only be able to send about €10 because I'm quite broke, but it should get there.

What he said.  I'd like to help, I have money in the bank, but I'm not a fan of sending cash in an envelope.  My family has two instances of someone sending money by post as a birthday present, and it never arriving.

Take it to the disgustingly cute couples thread!

Serious note: I do not want to send cash in the mail. I live in America, you can't trust the post office. Any other suggestions?

Hmm, maybe we could all send boxes of chocolate, bunches of roses, bottles of fine wine and pre-paid travel vouchers for romantic weekend trips to the banks of the Rhine. That way, the money you'd normally spend on those, you can spend on PEEL instead, and no-one has to send cash through the post...

Or one better, we can send edel gifts of love directly. That way there's no problem with exchange rates. We're just cutting out the middleman!

Hehe, ok, send the ice cream directly then.

Back to the mailing: If you take a sheet of paper, fold it twice and insert a note in the middle, there is no way to tell that there is money inside for the post man. It only gets suspicious if you send without any paper inside as it's too light then. Never knew that US and UK mail aren't to be trusted...

When I send it, I 'll put it in some aluminum foil. That way it's really hard to see, even with X-ray machines.
I 'd recommend it to people who don't trust their post office.

I've got it.  mArc, is there anything you want on a cd?  It's really easy to hide money in a standard jewel-case.  Just pop out the black thing and put the bills between that and the piece of paper behind it.

Royal Mail spokesman:
-Address all complaints to the Monsanto Corporation. Or send Marc 6 letters - each containing €5. Then at least €10 will make it to the PEEL foundation. We promise. Yours sincerely,

Zed: Nope, sorry, don't even have a CD player nor am I in need for anything computery really  tongue But I think sending a CD would be more shipping cost anyway.

Unless you want to send $BIGSUM (look to Ricky's advice for that), I don't think there needs to be too much worrying about losing letters. My guess would be that 99.99% arrive eventually and half of the rest are returned.

About the making out with edel: Sorry, you'll have to ask her yourself. And I got dibs on the Xmas break.

Marc, I know you dont want to, but it might be a really good idea to just get a credit card and do some sort of online thing.  or use a friends credit card or something.  obviously people are very leary about sending cash through the mail, so youre only losing money by not accepting other ways of transaction.

as for me, I dont have enough money for my own site let alone peel   tongue sorry   big grin

...that and I also got someone I'd rather spend money on than peel...

Nah, I will just talk them over.

The problem with a credit card is that I don't need one for myself and they actually *cost* money. Especially the conversion with foreign currency transactions.

Let's all send Marc portable goods then, like jewellery, salt, used car stereos or even livestock. And then he could sell it on the streets of Aachen, Germany escaping all worries of paying heavy exchange fees and suffer from currency fluctuations and stuff. Who knows? $30 worth of cigarettes may be worth $40 in Aachen?

Just don't send him any beer. 1000 nkr worth of Norwegian beer is, what, something like 2€ on the street in Aachen.

Maybe we could make an online collection, when we have enough some German PEEL'er cash it, make a big cardboard check and hand it to mArc in an extravagant ceremony.

Also I'm shocked noone seems to trust their national  mail service. I've mailed money numerous times, and it always arrive safely.

Finally, the money is in the mail, mArc. Expect it in 7 to 28 working days.

28 days? More like 3-4 days, I should think. But hey, you live in the capital of Sweden, so why don't you just drive down to mArc and give him the money (and your car/wristwatch/sneakers while your at it)? That'll take what, a day?
