Chatroom working again (?)

Finally, I got a clue what could be wrong for some people with the chatroom. If he was right, you'll be able to use the chatroom again.

If you have a website with the chat on it, try updating your code.

PS: Someone of the people complaining please try it and tell me here or in the room.

Yeah, it works fine for me again, although you will know that as Im currently in the chat room. I guess ths post is just to confirm it is me and not an imposter, and maybe a small case of spam.

I used the PEEL link, and it worked ok, but I had to choose the futuramachat in the room list... no biggie.

No, it isn't. When I went in no topic was set, and there was no botty or mods. So I changed the topic to 'how did I get to be a mod? (love rach)' and I'd like to know if it's like that for any other computers.

Yup, it worked fine until Bender01 or whatever his name was (the crazy 133t HAXOR who showed up today, remember BendingUnit1141?) showed up.
He wanted (begged) me to leave the chatroom, he just needed a couple of seconds, and then I could log on again... I thought it sounded strange so I stayed, but I had to leave sooner or later! And now the chat doesn't work on my computer either.
Hmm... I'm no expert, but something's rotten on Planet ChatRoom.

Sometimes I just fall out from the chat. Then I try to go in, but my nick is always in use... it bugges me... not a biggie, but it bugges me....

it seems as if there was a big netsplit or something.
irc.sick-du.de is down, liberty.irchat.tv is not an option for me as i'm not allowed to access it, freedom.irchat.tv is totally empty (so the java chat is empty too). the only one working is usa.irchat.tv .

Theres something wrong with the freedom.irchat.tv. You automatically become a mod if your the only person in there. Strange..and wheres chat on the front page of PEEL gone anyway?

When services (chanserv, nickserv etc) are down, and nobody else is in the room - when you enter, you become opped. This is only because the channel can't recognise you without the services and since you're the first one in there, it ops you by default. Don't worry when services kick back in, you'll get deopped automatically. Your ego will be shot down quickly heh.

Anyway I've been having trouble too connecting to the server. Need some repair on that netsplit! Pronto! Will try out usa.irchat.tv now...

Being an IRCop for the network that the chatroom is hosted on, I'll explain it like this...

A couple nights ago the network had a huge NetSplit (One or more servers go offline and the network will literally split).  For a while the only two servers running were usa.irchat.tv and freedom.irchat.tv (java server).  The adminds of the network have been working on it since the split.  As of right now, through much persistance, you can connect to wikked.irchat.tv and usa.irchat.tv, but you will be peered or pinged-out in a matter of seconds, and you will get no response from the services or the IRC.

When the network splits, rooms separate, so there's more than one of the same room.  As Ninaka said, if you join a room that the server sees as empty, you'll be OPed, this is how channels are registered, it's default.  However, a 'hax0r' cannot damage the network this way, as Ricky seemed to be worried about.  Only an idiot would want to be OP of an empty registered room during a netsplit, you can't do anything.

I've been trying to connect to the servers for a while now, I get minor responses and I can ping them, but getting a solid connection is hopeless.  All of the rooms on the server are empty except for Network Bots (hosted locally on the networks, so it seems the network has no outside connections.  Usa was a weak server, I'm not surprised it couldn't support all the connections.

I'm sure the admins will have the network back online in as much as a few days, even if they have to do a total rehash.  Just hafta be patient.

Great, there 's another netsplit. Everybody else just "quit" at the same moment, and I was alone there. Now I joined again, and I'm opped, as described in the post above.

Edit: Yeah I read the above post and I know what happened.  But it never happened while I was in there before.

Sometimes there are actually people in there, but for the most part it's filled with idlers... unfortunately..

Maybe I shouldn't have been so quick to judge mArc's idle-kick, but back then the chatroom was actually active. :\

If anyone would do idlekicks now, the chatroom would be absolutely empty. From time to time (especialy during the European nights) the chat consists of Amy, sick_boy (an IRC-oparator that is idling in #fc for the past 8 months) and me.

I don't see idling as that much of a problem right now, because there actually are people missing to talk to.

Indeed, i was planning on getting people to come back, perhaps setting a date where everyone tries to go there, see if we can get it back as it used to be.

I mean, if all the oldies went back on Thursday evening or something we can try and get it a bit more lively in there!

I thought about returning, but it's been pretty lame when I've been in there, and the sparkling pearls of wisdom which get posted in the IRC/Chat thread in Offtopic don't exactly make me wanna rush back.

Now, if we could get some PEELathonners in there, a few more regulars, liven the place up a bit.
