i just created a new Futurama site: Planet Eternium!
what do you think?

while viewing my site, and while you are posting your reviews/comments, remeber that i made most of this site from rather limited HTML knowledge, from my laptop, from my family's vacation home in a remote region in washington state, with no internet connection, and the only sources i had for decoration/background were the episodes The Day the Earth Stood Stupid and The Why of Fry, in low quality, because i had previously "aquired" them from sources i am unwilling to disclose here. and i got the idea of making a site last friday, and here it is partially ready on the following sunday.

You can't use HTML on this board.
Also, that url is faulty.

Except for the "Almost no content" fact your site looks good. But what will make Eternium any different from CGEF or TFP ?

Xmpel - I meant to have it displayed as code so that anyone who wanted to link to my site could just copy the code and use it.
Also, I had trouble with the geocities file uploader last night. I'll try uploading it again later today.
also, i dont know if it will be a lot different from CGEF of TFP. But i would like to have a site for futurama, even if it isn't very succesful. Does the nibbler/planet eternium graphical scheme get me anything, though?

DELTAWOLF - should i make all the text that light blue color? i personally thought it wasn't too bad.

EDIT: u have actual content now! u have uploaded all the songs from futurama. they're in the music section.

Light blue and/or white is good for that BG.

You can't use that code anyway as you can't hotlink from geocities. Also, if you're doing the "copy this onto your site" thing you may want to consider putting the <a href="http://www.mysite..."> bit onto that aswell.

As sympathetic as i feel to you using basic HTML, your standard visitor won't care if you used HTML or MS Frontpage if it looks bad and is shoddily coded. I'm not saying it is though.

DELTA WOLF: i'll change it to light blue soon. maybe a slighly darker blue than the links, so you can tell the difference.

aslate:
oh, right. hehe... oops.    :(
and what do you mean you can't hotlink from geocities?

also, are you hinting at anything in that last sentence?

Hotlinking is using images from another webhost. I.E. If i was to put that code on my site i'd be "hotlinking" the image as it is hosted by someone else. Since Geocities don't allow hotlinking you either get a red X or an image saying they don't allow hotlinking.

And no, i wasn't commenting on anything wrong with your site, it looks fine. I was just saying that people don't care how little HTML you know, if the site looks bad they won't go back. I repeat, your site is fine!  :)

Make some scans of the nibblonians instead of using those framegrab looking things.

I like how your site layout is zeep, and the idea of the name is very cool.  Like Xmpel said though, you need better quality stuff, like scans for your images.  Personally I think we need more little sites to bring our futurama community together and every fan site put together nicely makes it that much more important...

Ok: the design is fixed and the What is Futurama? section has been added.

as for the section header images, (the nibblonians) i am no good at making scans as i recently found out. so i will post the images, and anyone who is willing to can send me a scan.
Nibbler in spacesuit
female nibblonian
normal nibbler
requirements:
*150 pixels wide by approximately 190 pixels high
*the nibblonian is all i need, not the background.
*leave the backgound white
*i will add the text later.
thanks in advance!

If your site is "ready" for the internet and for people to visit daily, remove the links to empty sections. If you want to show them as coming soon or something, just remove the <a href=""> bit of the link and leave the text, but blank pages are a no-no.

Nice site, I'll have a go at those scans later if I get time. (I'll see how long it takes to do my work today).
{--feel free to ignore the following, just a comment about some technical details--}
From a technical point of view, pretty good: some outdated tags (<font> and <center>, use style sheets) and some usage of tables that isn't strictly required. Also you might wanna check over your code, as there appear to be a few missing closeing tags. Also, you should probably have <meta> tags, but I always forget them as well.
{--end of ignorable crap--}

Overall, I'd rate it above average.   :D

EDIT:
here is a scan I did

you might want to use this transparent png and add your own background colour as it will be dificult to change the background colour on the white one

one with the lovely pink background on your site

you can re-size and the like yourself, it shouldn't be too hard  :)

It looks good, but I found a small mistake in the "What is Futurama" section. Futurama's last episode didn't air in the summer of 2004, seeing as it hasn't come yet. It aired in the summer of 2003.

@Dr. Morberg: whoops. caught up in the changing year thing, i always think "2003" then correct myself, and i guess this was no exception.

Bump.
I know it looks almost exactly the same, but the site is now very different.

*Banner ads near the top of the page. Sorry, but i gotta make some money other than my monthly allowance.
*new host. i now have a host with no advertisements except a text link at the bottom. 100 mb of space, too.  www.1asphost.com
*automatic redirect service. for an even shorter url, i now have the address:  www.eternium.vze.com   i'll edit all my above posts.
*The first 2 section headers are scans. Spacesuit nibbler, by Henrik87 and female w/ hood by SixByNine.

also, since i have a new server now, anyone can link to my site. copy this code:
<A HREF="http://www.eternium.vze.com/"><IMG SRC="http://www.eternium.vze.com/images/buddy_button_1.jpg" ALT="Planet Eternium"></A>

i still need someone to do the normal nibbler image. please?

fine, i'll take them off. wait, how about a compromise? what if i moved them to the bottom of the pages? would that be better?

At the bottom might be better...  But I just realized.... you're Nibbler scans at the left either need a transparent background or need to be the EXACT same color of pinkish purple as the background of your site.  If you want a transparent background you can use a gif (which would be probably be smarter since it takes the same amount of work to fix as the other solution and could be reusable even after you change the background color).  Anyways.... it seems to be shaping up to be a pretty good site, just play with moving things around and such... and I understand a need for banners (who doesn't?) even the big sites have 'em somewhere, just try to incorporate it with your design.

ok, i'll move the banners to the bottom of the page.

and about the color, it looks like the same color to me, but if you insist, i'll have to ask the artists for a transparent gif image. unless someone knows how i could change it so that purple is the transparent collor...?

hmm... good question.
i don't know what happened.
i did hear one review of that web host that said there was a lot of down-time... ig uess i should have paid more attention...
i'll try a new server later, but i'll be kind of busy the next few days. does anyone know of a good, FREE server with very little, if any, advertising?

if you really need to, you can go to  the old site on Geocities but if you go to the home page (Futurama News) that will automatically forward you to the new page, that's not working. but you can still view most of the site, although it hasn't been updated as recently as the new [not working] site.

have you tried freewebs It's free and no adverts, but there are limits to how many files you can have (I think 50), but that shouldn't affect your site.

how about: PlanEt.tk or something like that.

ok here we go: hopefully the last server move:
 plan-et.tk
one thing is that i havent finished uploading all the files. freewebs only lets you upload one file at a time, which is quite annoying.

and i still need to know how to make the background transparent. i've never been very good at editing digital images.
