The background makes it very difficult for me to make out quite a bit of the text. [Walter_Brennan]'Course my eyes ain't as good as they wuz 30 years ago, dagnab it![/Walter_Brennan]

Looks good so far, keep it going.
But you should use solid fields to write your text on, the background makes it very tiresome to read.

Tiled backgrounds suck. Stick with a plain colour background (like PEEL's love-er-ly blue) or even just white. ANYTHING but a crappy tiled background.

Look at other websites that have designs that you like and take inspiration. Consider PEEL: Nice mid blue with white/grey behind text. As a general rule use a pale colour for background and try and keep the base text black. Just use a couple of different styles for headings (NB best to use CSS for styles, but if you don't know how then don't worry) Edit: Also consider CGEF, that has a black background, but white for aread of body text. Also note how the sections are all done in a uniform style to give an identity to the site. Edit2: You could check out Jakob Nielsen's website at http://www.useit.com . I haven't bin there myself but I have read some of his books and they are excelent. Edit3: Ok, maybe I'm going a bit over the top for a small fan site, but I'm computer scientist so what do you expect...
