Just a few questions, comments, and concerns   ;)

First: Are TLZ and SA both down? I can't access either right now... is everyone else getting the same?

Second: The new http://www.planetroadmap.de  is up... and I found thier ratings rather odd. One example of this is that ANSTATMAW is considered "Awful" and the site "Transfuturama" which has a meger offering of VCD covers (which contain spelling errors) gets promising.

Back up now, they mention a site outage on the main page. Technical problems maybe?

yeah probably technical, cause TLZ fixed all it's C&D stuff so it can't be that letter....  I think they're both just experiencing technical problems, they'll probably be back up soon....

They're asking to remove:
1. video clips
leela.com.ar/videoclips/
2. sound clips
leela.com.ar/sounds/
3. wallpapers
leela.com.ar/wallpaper/
4. stamps
leela.com.ar/stamps/
5. image galleries
guess that would be leela.com.ar/fanart/
6. screensavers
leela.com.ar/ssavers/

While i agree they shouldn't remove most of this (but the DVD content), they did nothing to help the situation. Not even add a disclaimer.

The outage was technical though. The server had problems.

SA and TLZ are both back up...  Yeah you're right marc, but I had thought they got a disclaimer on the site and got rid of the DVD section.  I guess I thought wrong  :D

Alright, TLZ is back up, and the problem wasn't due to any C&D, but due to an attack on Smoovenet by some idiot hacker(s).

As for the disclaimer: how many times does it have to be pointed out that this C&D was sent prior to the disclaimer not being there? We were meant to receive the C&D in December, but due to their own technical difficulties, it arrived some months later, when we had a design that didn't include the disclaimer. Basically, it was coincidence, that's all!

Nevertheless, the lack of a disclaimer was an oversight, and not deliberately intended. On the next layout a disclaimer will be there. But, I doubt that'll stop Fox if they wanted to shut us, or any site, down; it's like defending yourself against a samurai sword with wrapping paper.

As for the DVD content: it's not as if we're offering clips at DVD bitrate or anything... they are quite basic and crude. If Fox really think that the clips on TLZ will stop someone buying the DVD, then they are bigger fools than we give them credit for.

Also, how many here are downloading or encoding MPEG, MPEG2, DivX, RM or whatever Futurama episodes, all without adverts, etc? So, rather than getting all moralistic about this, like some individual here is doing, maybe people should look at their own practices before preaching about copyrighted content, etc.

Now back to golden silence mode!

Didn't say the missing disclaimer got you the letter but it's just simply plain reasonable to have one. They did criticise your old one in the letter and give you one they'd like to see. Just copy the damn thing and add it in your footer.inc ... That's 1 minute of work.

That's maybe why no site offers episode downloads. At least german law differs between getting/having something downloaded and offering it/distributing it.

MPAA started going after full episode sites now, too. They mailed a german site and some smaller simpsons site with full episodes.

Regarding planetroadmap.de: that's already closed again.

You have to wade through dozens of links and porn ads if you're hoping to get episode downloads of anything. That's why file-sharing's the way to go.

I'm OK with them taking down their videos, but do they really have to tell people to take down their icons and wallpapers? I think Fox does it so that their website would appear to be the best by comparison. Fanart may contain Futurama, but it is ORIGINAL. Nowhere else can you see Leela as a demon in hell, or get cool-looking stamps. These aren't direct ripoffs from the show.

And now, something we can all take offence to!
Futurama Factory: http://www.geocities.com/futuramafactory/

The classic ripoff. The button is exactly like the red Say Argh one, except it now says FF. And the site, well, Paul must be spinning in his grave... oh wait, I mean must be mighty pissed off.

As good a thread as any for my this:

So I went hunting after a framegrab for Brainsluggo (a clean intro grab). Found a link to the Outlet on a German site and thought: "hmm, worth a shot". And then I spent the rest of the day browsing through those old sites.

The Outlet, Futurama Chronicle, the Futurama Archive, the old CGEF, Planet Roadmap, etc., even an older version of ANSTATMAW. Damn, those where some nice sites. Made me all upset that I didn't get the chance to see them in their prime. They still have a fair amount of content, but man  they must've been awesome back then.

I particularly liked some wallpapers I found on the old ANSTATMAW page: Amy as borg, and Amy Raider.     :laff: *yoink*

Damn, why did I have to discover "Futurama" so late, to miss all those great sites.     :(

Okay, I'm done whining.     ;)

Edit: and just for the 2% of you that didn't know it yet. Goto Web.Archive.Org. Type in the URL of the old site, and presto.

I was a Futurafan from the first ep, but I missed some of the first sites before they were hunted by FOXes to extinction. Damn, the Futurama Chronicles would have been perfect for my guide pages.

The Futurama Chronicles and The Futurama Archive both concentrated on text info and hardly had any multimedia. They were to Futurama what the Simpsons Archive is to The Simpsons. Why the hell, then, did Fox shut these sites down? Ahh, yes, it's all coming together...They thought TV wasn't enough, and decided to cut down on promotion of Futurama on the web! That's it!  Those bastards are lucky KOTH doesn't have a large online community. All those redneck fans are probably like "what in tarnation is an online?"
