You may remember me posting about this a while ago, so here's a reminder: I posted about my site (The Grey Thinky Whale). Most people told me to learn html and get a site without a pagebuilder. So I did. People liked the new one more but weren't fussy on the colours, framegrab cut-outs, lack of pictures of brains, logo, size of link pictures and sloppiness (pretty much everything  ). And now most of that has changed! I have completely re-done the layout of the homepage of the brain spawn to fix those things complained about. Although, I have not re-done all the pages, so if you explore the site too much, you're bound to find stuff with one of the above problems. So check it out and tell me what you think!   :)

Seriously though, it's much better. Simple, and functional. Maybe add something to the front page; maybe something about what's on the site, or news. As you mentioned, not all the pages are done, but in the mean-time, give them the same colour background. Looks like a different site otherwise.

The pictures; make them into .gifs they would have less than 256 colours, so making them .gifs would probably make a smaller file, and you wouldn't have those ugly artifacts anymore.

I'd have to wait until you've completed more of it to critisize more, but for now, (Besides the beration of my cool avatar by means of jpegification) it's looking good.

I have to completely agree with Rage.  Your site is the epitome of what fledgling futurama sites should be.  If you keep up this work, you will have a great site.  Also, you should make a cool buddy icon (the futurama ring ones, are about 85x31 pixels, I believe).  I'll certainly link to your site from SSF if you do.  :)

Keep up the good work, I'll certainly visit your site often in the near future to see how it comes along  :)

That really nice looking, GTW.
Like the two before me I have nothing to bitch about. Well, on little thing: I see you converted both "big" pictures to gif. Nice!
Sadly if you converted the messed up jpgs (The old pictures that held the artifacts) to gif, so that these will still look that messed up.

Since I got nothing better to do, I cleaned them up. Use them or not, I don't care.  :)

Thanks y'all!

I wanna make individual pictures at the top of each section so I requested a pic of Morbo and Linda in the framegrab request section to use in news.

EDIT: And here it is: http://www.freewebs.com/brainspawn/news.htm
What do y'all think?
Someone please bump this...  :(

Sorry to double-post but you gotta bump what you gotta bump. As seen in this framegrab I just edited:

So, I got a .tk address (www.brainspawn.tk) and got rid of the ads that come with. I added a framegrab section and cleaned most of the site. As I edited into my last message I made a picture for the news section that I'd like an opinion on. So I'm wondering: what next? Any ideas? I've still got some cleaning to do but does anyone have any suggestions? Also, Winna, when you said you'd link me on SSF I got excited but I havn't heard from you since...

Looking good GTW. One thing though for your framegrab area.

Get a thumbnail for every frame grab you offer and link that to the big one. Sure that would need more webspace, but the solution you got now takes by far too much time and bandwidth for dialup and even dsl user.

Now the browser downloads every picture, which is about 100kb big, and then has to resize it down to the small size which is shown. A real thumbnail that is already resized would only take about 12 kb, or even less to load.

A few constructive criticism:

On the fanart pages: use thumbnails on the artists mainpage, rather than just shrink the full image. This will cut loading times considerably for modem users (and help on your bandwidth spendage). As it is now, the full file of all images is downloaded when you go to an artist page.

On frmaegrabs: I tried opening the site with grabs from TDtESS. 100 images, on average 150kb = 15Mb of images. For a modem user that's more than 1 hour of loading time. Way, way, waaaay to much. Again, use thumbnails or compress the grabs much more.

You should check your link page, the images don't work.

Good luck.

Edit: see what I mean? I had to wait 4-7minutes for the framegrabs to load, and now gff beat me to it.

Huh, my link images work... for me.

I'll try to make the framegrabs into thumbnails though. It may take awhile...

All I see is red lines of text with white squares beneath. Since the background is white as well, the only way I cann where to press is be highlighting the entire page.

That's pretty good, and your message board looks good too. I might join. I think you need some pictures on your welcome page to make it stand out a bit more but other than that, Keep up the good work!

Thanks JDB, but first, I'd like to show you something: I've been working on a new message board. One that's not just a regular PHPBB one. But an IPB, full of customness and whatnot. So I'd like to know which is liked better, the old one, or the new one? Tell me what you think people! And maybe I can get people to join...

I like the new one and I even joined! But How do I post? I don't see any quickpost, or 'Post a reply' boxes.

That's because there are no topics, seeing as how I just made it and you're the first one to join. You can't reply to the news because it's locked, but when you start a topic, or if I start a topic, there should be a quickpost and a post a reply box. The new topic starting button looks like this: . Thanks for joining though! Also, if you want the quickpost to appear automaticall, then under my controls and under options and under board settings, change this:

Content is the king, and you seem to be a little short. All I could find was some (rather bad) fanart, an empty episode guide, and two episodes of framegrabs. Work on thinking up some original content sections for yourself.

The design is clean and easy on the eyes, but pretty boring. But it works for now.

6/10

Keep working as hard as you have been and you'll improve in major strides.

Yea, have you thought about enhancing the fan art a little? They seem a bit faded.

Did my last post not help you? Another person joined and had no problems posting. Man, I should start some topics to help you out a little. And DBN, did you join twice?? Wait, you are logging in right?

EDIT: To get the ball rolling, I've posted a bunch of half-assed topics. If you can't post in them, than I don't know what to say.

Ohhhh...., I finally get what you mean. Just press on or around the red text though. Or on the bit of brain beside the text.

Anyways, I have made the framegrabs into thumbnails, which should cut the page-loading time in half.

Dr.BenderNye: After adding new topics and stuff, JDB was able to post. What about you. Also, there was a second "member" called DannyNye1991, so I assumed that was you again trying to post and deleted that.

Again, sorry for the double post, but you gotta bump what you gotta bump

If the useful members have not yet given up on this section of the site, I'd like to point out that in the last two days, I have edited a lot of the navigation in my site. Aswell, seeing the pointlessness of even having a Futurama fanart section, I have converted it to a brainspawn fanart section. So if you've ever drawn a Futurama floating brain,

With that said, a run-through and review of the site would be good, however, I warn you, the current framegrab section state is not good; it'll take a lot of work to make them into links.

Hopefully I'm not talking to myself.

More people should email thier fanart to GTW and it will most likely be on his site since there isn't currently very much...
